  1. This is great news for Wade. With his shoulder injury he is already missing a huge opportunity to show his improvement in preseason. But if he can keep his exemption and possibly be elevated it at least gives him a slim chance.

I honestly feel like this needed to be done for the IPP players. Obada is the exception but otherwise IPP players have found it hard to get playing time.

For ESPN, she’s pretty good.. and everything she said today is accurate.

    Josh Allen, elite - accurate

    Bills FO, elite - accurate

When asked by Steve Levy what changes for Buffalo when this contracts kicks, she responded that we cant wait years for high draft picks to develop when money gets a bit tighter - accurate

    It’s not that serious.

     Glad you enjoy her thoughts.

Heres Joe Marino's podcast on the extension a great listen IMO.

Nothing negative about it at all.  If you asked Beane if he thinks those guys need to step up, I’m pretty sure he’d agree.

You're missing the point. She is one of the brainless analysts who always go for low hanging fruit. Classic example- Josh sucks when it was the majority view. If you always go with consensus you will be right more often than not. Now she's like "young players need to improve." I mean if that's the kind of insight you hitch your wagon to....fair enough.

All 3 young qbs will get paid they will all be similar deals.   let the chips fall where they may over the next 5 years.  i am sure they will all beat each other at some point will any beat mahomes?    who knows

    I'm not convinced you're a Bills fan.

My guess is KC? So it's true that those QBs haven't beaten Mahomes yet. But it's not a huge sample size in a 3 year period in which KC have been dominant.

I could say none of the other QBs have lost a SB.

I could say none of the other QBs have had Andy Reid as coach.

I could say we've never seen Mahomes carry a bad team.

Were you impressed with him in the SB?I  was sorely disappointed.

These statements are also true but ultimately who cares? Mahomes is a damn good player.

What watching the Bills over the last few years should tell you is that things can and do change. Just keep getting better.

  5. On the one hand the Browns roster is full of highly rated draft picks and a solid Oline.

On the other hand they haven't finished higher than a third place finish and regularly avoid difficult schedules. They finished last regular.season with a negative point differential.

Kelce is a Ohio native saying nice things at a charity event. The opener will tell a different story I think.

We all saw Josh put up some amazing numbers last year. Yards, TD's, low turnover ratio, 2nd in MVP voting, and he broke all kinds of Bills records. There is no denying the young man's growth. I found this article from an interview with Ravens newly signed OT Alejandro Villanueva very interesting though. He talks about how important it is to at least have balance for the OL between the running and passing game. It helps to keep the pass rushers off balance and not be able to get into a rhythm as he put it.

    https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/category/rumor-mill/

Many teams basically pinned their ears back and came at Josh all game long because there was honestly no threat of a running game. Last year Josh was sacked a total of 38 times, including the playoffs, but he was hit a hell of a lot more. We all remember Feliciano clapping on the field when we ran the ball a couple of times in a row and had some nice gains. The big guys love that stuff, being able to maul people moving forward instead of always trying to hold your ground upright. Yes we were 13-3. Yes we made it to the AFC Championship game. It was a great season. But if we are going to get where we want, hoisting a Lombardi, I believe we need a bit more balance. If we can get our big guys going, and keep defenses guessing, then it will just open up things for Josh that much more. He will also get hit less. Our RB's only accounted for 81 yds per game on the ground, between all of them. Singletary and Moss were #37 and #43 last year in the NFL in yards per game. If we can get this ground game going then I think we take that next step, with that next step being Super Bowl.

With the Steelers they started the season very balanced, but once their running game stalled they became one dimensional and Ben was too old to do it by himself. In contrast the Bills made it work despite being fairly one dimensional. I'm sure McD and Daboll would welcome a more effective run game, the flip side of that is do you want to keep giving Moss and Singletary the ball as opposed to the highly effective pass catchers? I think what I want to see is these RBs step up and actually do more with the chances they get with these light boxes.

ZEROVOLTZ Mock draft 3.0  ....you might ask how this could be 3.0 if this is the first one I've posted......the answer is, this is my 3rd complete from scratch one that I've done...and for me to keep straight what I posted, it's 3.0 even though its the first and probalby only one I'll post here.  Thanks Gunner for letting me use this space to post.  I look forward to the comments....etc.... I think you'll find this mock to be a bit on the wild side...I believe the media doesn't have a good grasp of this draft at all....explanations with each pick.....I got through pick 40.....for a reason.

Some highlights.  Parsons falls.  The 4th and 5ht Qb's aren't as hot as many think.  Teams put off OT because they can get one later.  ...and as you'll see the Bills trade back.

    1.  Jaguars.  QB Trevor Lawrence

No explanation really needed here.  The Jags are taking Lawrence and the second they controlled this pick, he was it.  They have sold a ton of season tickets based on the idea this is the pick.  It's a lock.

    2.  Jets.  QB  Zach Wilson

The Jets have zeroed in on Wilson...it's been a foregone conclusion for a while now that he is the pick here.

    3.  49ers.  QB Justin Fields

In my other mock drafts I at first had Mac Jones here...but within a very short time I had changed my thinking to Fields.....SF didn't expend this much draft capital for A) an immobile, bland, system qB in Jones....and I also doubt they spent it for a quantity as random and unkown as Lance.  Fields is the embodiment of the most recent stars....QB's who are pass first, big armed, good from the pocket first types, but who CAN run.  Think Mahomes, Allen, Rogers....Shanahan has hinted this is the type of QB he'd prefer in the past.

    4.  Falcons.  TE Kyle Pitts

I DO NOT believe the Falcons are in the QB market....and despite alot of hype, I don't think Mac Jones or Trey Lance are the kind of prospects a team moves up to 4 to get.  The Falcons restructured Ryan and he still has alot of good football left...they stil have Julio and Ridley....I just don't see this as a team that is at the point where you tear it down.  Pitts looks like the kind of TE that makes a difference.  It's traditionally kind of high for a TE, but he's the rare freak of nature prospect you can take here.

    5.  Bengals.  WR Ja'Marr Chase

Many mocks have Penei Sewell here.  That's understandable.  Here is my logic here.  Chase is a major WR prospect.  They need to replace AJ Greens 110 targets.  Chase has a relationship with Burrow.....AND.....this is the kicker....this is one of the deepest OT drafts to come along in a very long time.  There will be some starting caliber OT availbe in round 2.  There is NOT a Chase level WR to be had in round 2....this is a deep WR draft class...but a good many of them are slot types.  The Bengals opt for the weapon and will wait to address O line later.

    6.  Dolphins.  WR Jaylen Waddle

The Dolphins would be good with Pitts, Waddle, Chase, or Smith here.  Chase and Pitts are gone...so the pick here is Waddle...the guy with the juice.  He's not big but super fast...dynamic playmaker....the kind of guy who can take a short TUA pass and make soemthing of it.  Tua was 31 out of 31 qualifying QB's in accuracy on intermediate passes....this guy is able to help at what TUA does better...short stuff.

    7.  Lions.  OT Penei Sewell

Even though I believe the Lions could use a QB here, like Lance, who  they'd have time to develop...the new GM is the guy who drafted Goff...and the new coach is a culture change guy and he wasts the Lions to be tough SOBs.  Sewell fits that mold....and fills a need.

    8.  Panthers.  OT Rashawn Slater

Many people are thinking this is a spot ideal for a team looking to trade up for a QB.  I continue to beleive that after the top 3 QB's are off the board....Mac Jones and Lance...aren't as well regarded by teams as they are by the media....and the Panthers got their QB...for now as well....they have a glaring hole at OT.  No trade partner...they go OT.

    9.  Broncos.  CB Jaycee Horn

There are a good number of national media projecting Denver to trade up or stay at 9 and take a QB.  They are NOT.  Denver brought in a new GM, but retained the current coaching staff, giving them essentially an ultimatum to win now.  The new GM would likely not want to draft a QB at 9, that his win now coaching staff won't want anything to do with.  The current staff isn't exactly ideal for developing a QB even if they were inclined to do so..Vic Fangio is a d minded HC...when he was hired the Broncos, at Fangios urging, signed Joe Flacco...he wanted a vet QB that could run their PA attack....Drew Lock was an afterthought....now in a win now year, Fangio will roll with Lock, and they will draft a win now player.  If Parsons didn't have the red flag charachter issues...I think they might go with him...but CB is a need as they have guys on one year contracts and you can't have enough good CB's as it is.  Between Horn and Surtain....Horn is the better ZONE player...and that is what Fangio runs.

    10.  Cowboys  CB Patrick Surtain II

One of the easiest matches to figure here...the Cowboys have a need at CB..they like Surtain...

    11.  Giants  EDGE Jaelan Phillips

Dave Gettleman is an old school kind of guy who likes linemen.  The Giants pass rush sucked last year.  Phillips is a guy that can come in and start, and possibly be that missing piece the Giants covet.

    12. Eagles.  WR  DeVonta Smith

Similar to the Cowboys....Eagles have a big need....and Smith is here....no need to over think it.

    13. Chargers.  OT  Christian Darrisaw

The Chargers are going to do all they can in this draft to build a wall in front of Justin Herbert....Darrisaw is the protypical LT they are looking for of the guys remaining...some are higher on Teven Jenkins....Darrisaw is the better bet to be successful as a LT.

    14.  Vikings, IOL  Alijah Vera-Tucker

Again....what might be considered a prime spot to get ahead of New England for a QB....no takers.  The Vikings would probably have prefered an OT here....and would consider Jenkins, but go instead with the bigger need and bonafide interior lineman.

    15.  ***TRADE***  Washington FT  QB Trey Lance

In a surprise move, the Patriots....thought to be looking for a QB...trade back to 19 and the FT comes up to get their QBOTF in Lance.  Football team wanted to insure they got ahead of the Bears here.

    16.  Cardinals  CB Greg Newsome II

With the departure of Patrick Petersen...and no other real stars or players on the roster to replace him...the Cardinals take Greg Newsome here.....

    17. Radiers  OL Teven Jenkins

The Raiders are a hot mess....and more than any other spot...they need O linemen...Jenkins played all over the line except C....he'll start somewhere on the the Radiers line immedeately.

    18. Dolphins EDGE Azeez Ojulari

The Dolphins just continue to add high end players with all their AMMO....and Ojulari is another one....and again...there is always a need for edge rushers....

    19.  *** TRADE  ***  Patriots moved back from 15 with WFT.  Patroit select...  LB  Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah

Belichick just turned 69 years old.  I am inclined to believe that he isn't interested in trying to develop a young QB at this point.  They loaded up the roster to run a double TE, power run, RPO type offense with Cam.  Belichick adds some draft capital and still gets the guy he's wanted all along.

    20.  Bears.  QB  Mac Jones

Somehow, Ryan Pace and Nagy still have jobs.  They apparently are going to be given another shot at finding a QB.....Mac Jones does have alot of the traits the Bears are looking for in a QB....and while there are other needs.....the staff knows without a QB they are toast...Jones represents their only chance at redemption.

    21.  Colts.  IDL  Christian Barmore

The Colts have a need at DL....and while I don't like drafting for need....this is a week IDL class, and Barmore is the cream of a weak crop.  The Colts need a low lost answer here....and Barmore is it.  They do have a big need at OT as well...but again, as suggest earlier....this is a deep OT draft...the Colts will find one later.

    22.  Titans.  WR Kadarius Toney

The need at WR is obvious, but I think some will be surprised that Toney is the pick here....the media isn't high enough on Toney...a track star...he can stretch a defense...and can be effectively deployed on sweeps and reverses, shuttle passes etc.  The most dynamic weapon of the options here.

    23.  Jets.  RB  Travis Ettiene

The Jets could go a number of directions here...but opt for a weapon that is multi dimensional out of the backfield....wouldn't be surprising if the Jets considered a DB here...but ultimately, they will rely on new Coach Selah to shape up the D, and will get the new QB and offense some weapons I think.

    24.  Steelers  CB  Caleb Farley

The Steelers spring to the table to draft Farley...a big, physical, do it all, ball skills, whole package CB...they like....injury red flag allows this guy to fall here and the Steelers are more than happy to take the risk.  Something of note...they need OT here pretty bad....even IOL....but the Steelers historically just don't spend high draft pickst on OT....and rarely on IOL.  That continues here.

    25.  Jaguars  S Travis Meohrig

Not much to say here other than....Jags have needs in their defensive backfield and Moerhig is a fit.  RT is a need, but once again....beign a deep draft at OT, a RT can be found later.

    26.  Browns  EDGE Kity Paye

Cleveland is delighted to get Paye here....they are stacking up alot of talent on the defense.  They need pass rush help beyond Myles Garrett

    27.  Ravens.  EDGE  Jason Oweh

The Ravens lost Matt Judon and NEED pass rushers in the worst way...the go with Oweh here....the man with no sacks..but the physical traits that say he should....

    28.  Saints.  CB  Eric Stokes

Big need....and Stokes fits.  Being cap strapped as they are....Saints could use some other help at WR, and maybe Edge or LB...but biggest need is at CB.

    29.  Packers.  OT  Liam Eichenberg.

Packers have a need at OT....Eichenberg is a very Packers esque lineman....not the most impressive or imposing physical specimen....he is technically sound...and not prone to mistakes....very refined.  smart.  Not going to be much help for a team that runs screens etc...but the Packers aren't that kind of team.  He can play left or right....

30  BUFFALO BILLS  ***TRADE***  .....the Denver Broncos Move up here to select.... LB  Zaven Collins.

The Broncos need a dynamic, do it all LB to really finish off their D.  They considered it way up at pick 9...but opted for a more surefire player in Horn.  Now they get their LB.  The broncos are in win now mode and they are loading up.  The Bills pick up some capital to move out of 30....I believe the players who will remain on the board at 40, suite the Bills well...and at better value than here at 30.

    31.  Chiefs  EDGE  Ronnie Perkins

Most mocks have KC going with an OT here...some I have seen have Eichenberg...some with Leatherwood (not a fit)  and I have seen some with KC taking an edge...Jason Oweh usually...but I have him already taken in this mock.  I think Perkins is a guy the media isn't up to speed on and that pro teams have him ranked higher than media does.  The Chiefs get a guy big enough to play on the edge, but who will need to learn gap discipline.....beyond that..he's got juice and high motor to get after the QB and wreck the backfield.

    32.  Buccs  EDGE  Gregory Rousseau

the Buccs are pretty loaded.....and have the luxury of going for something of a luxury...another pass rusher.

    ROUND 2

    33.  Jags  WR  Terrace Marshall

Talented WR.....Jags loading up for Lawrence.

    34.  Jets  LB  Micah Parsons

Finally, Parsons goes after a big fall....the Jets will gamble that HC Saleh and staff can keep Parsons out of trouble and help him grow up.   He's a major talent....lack of experience in coverage also a reason for this drop.

    35.  Falcons  LB Jamin Davis

Maybe not at the top of the list of needs, but Davis too good to pass here....dynamic do it all LB.

    36.  Dolphins  RB  Najee Harris

Loading up on yet more of the Alabama offense.....RB here for the Dolphins...amazing the roster they've turned over in the past couple years.

    37.  Eagles  LB  Nick Bolton

Dynamic LB are having a run here at the top of round 2.

    38.  Bengals  OT  Samuel Cosmi

Bengals took Chase in round 1, and land a starting caliber OT here in round 2.

    39.  Panthers  WR  Rashod Bateman

The Panters let Samuel Curtis walk this offseason...and do have a need at WR...they are stoked when Batemen falls to them here.

40  ***BUFFALO BILLS***  Having traded back with Denver...the Bills select  RB  Javonte Williams.

Hear me out Bills fans....Williams is a physical back....who is a 3 down player....who excells in pass protection....and is known for broken tackles....he reminds me a ton of Steven Jackson.   He could do A LOT...to help the Bills already high powered offense...be less one dimensional, and give them a guy that stays on the field all 3 downs, that does it ALL.    I could not think of a player the Bills could add, who could do more to help NOW than this guy. (I am sure there are going to be a ton of you who don't agree)

I like what you did at the top of the draft. Don't agree with your Colts or Steelers picks. Colts have Armstead, Steelers need a center not a high risk pick.

Bills trading back then taking 3rd best RB is a very disappointing way to end the mock.

  8. Josh Allen is a problem that Miami hasn't had an answer to yet. It makes perfect sense that a fish fan expects him to get worse because hes trying to project future success for his team. The trouble is after 3 years you have sufficient sample size to observe trends in his development and it's pretty clear the arrow has been pointing ever upward. I hope that JA remains under scrutiny because so far it's only driven him to improve. He's taken unfounded criticism of every sort and used it as motivation.

  9.  I primarily fault myself for starting this clearly unwelcome thread without proper context and explanation. Honestly I was just sick to death of draft talk and genuinely thought it would raise the odd chuckle. Obviously I was mistaken.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised in the social media age, that so many people have such visceral reactions to a few pictures of alternative helmet logos.

Anyway sorry if I upset people.

     Lock it up mods.

So I just signed into my account here for the first time since 2009 or so.  My family and I live in Wisconsin; born and raised here.  But we lived in Buffalo from 2003-2009.  Growing up a Packers fan, I can tell you that Bills fans and Packers fans are cut from the same cloth.  We moved back home, but still love Buffalo and have friends there.  So what prompted this?  The helmets you folks are talking about... Roughing The Passer is the name of the blog... Is me and my kids.  Out town has been pretty much shut down by COvID since summer, along with the bar I own, so we decided to spend that time on this thing, pretending to be sports writers.  It kind of evolved into this helmet thing,  So for those who said it looks like kids made them... it's all good; they did.  My youngest was incredibly excited this morning because somehow he could see that we were getting a ton of traffic from a Bills page, and when I saw it was this one, I wondered if my account still worked.  So thank you to everyone who took a look.  We don't take ourselves seriously; we know most of them are ridiculous.  I won't say it's parody, because we actually loved a lot of the ones we spit out.  And I had to say... that comment up there about the LSD.... dear god.  I literally sprayed my coffee all over the damn counter when I read that.  Oh... and Josh Allen is a beast.  Just saying.  Take care, Bills Mafia.  And thanks for making mine and my kids' day.

I actually came across this while browsing the Seahawks fan forum. I probably should have given more context when posting (my bad everyone), because I did see that it was a project you had done with your kids. I think they did a great job although some of the designs....were not for me.

I feel like I touched a nerve a little with this thread, and that certainly wasn't intended. I can respect the reaction for the reason that the Bills have a cool set of colours and I see how fans could be a little defensive about it.

As a dad homeschooling his 4 year old, kudos to you and your family for the effort.

I'm not thinking of him as a backup,  but more of a rotational piece and replacement for Star next year. Honestly,  I see anyone we draft this year as a rotational piece this year, other than CB or possibly OL. I just don't see any major holes. One can hope, but I am not sure a rookie is going to be better this year than what we already have.🤔

Teams are so obsessed with the win now mentality, it makes you wonder if some of these guys who could be gems but need time will drop and be great value roster picks for the future.

  12. Baltimore isn't an offense that will make you look great as a WR.  But they are a long-standing playoff caliber team. If the dollars are there players won't turn it down.

This has been the theme on the ravens board since they lost to the BIlls. It's a tough one. Do you reject a scheme that has you a perennial contender because you think you are too one dimensional? If so you risk asking Lamar to not play to his best strengths. Do you invest in a position which won't best be used in that scheme?

     Quite the dilemma.

All things being equal I’d gravitate to a kid with an NFL bloodline. I think those kids have personal pressure to perform and built in mentors to help them in the transition to professional life. (I’m not sure if that theory has panned out but there’s gotta be quite a large sample size for it to be studied.)

I expect that's true and helps Surtain. But athletically he is nothing like Lattimore and Humphrey. We will see I suppose.

Good post.  I agree with all of this. I haven’t dove deep on Stokes yet.  While breaking down waddle and smith, I saw him get burned badly on a few plays....but they do that to most corners.

Currently in Cancun, so I haven’t caught up to date with pro days. The internet here is beyond bad.  Did stokes run a 4.25??

Cancun huh? Fabulous, enjoy your vacation! Yes Stokes ran in the 4.2s twice, at his pro day and the HOA regional combine. So he's definitely rapid, but in fairness a lot of guys are getting eye popping times at their pro-days.

  14. 32 minutes ago, NewEra said:

I could see Phillips > Paye.

I definitely don’t see stokes being better than Surtain, although Farley or Horn could be the best.

pitts > lady gronk by a wide margin imo, but landing spot is incredibly important for pass catchers.  If pitts lands in Miami, Philly, Detroit, NYG, NYJ, Carolina, Washington, Chicago, Indy, NO or Baltimore......anything could happen.

I haven’t looked at any Darrisaw tape because he won’t fall to 30, so no comment.

I see Surtain as the highest floor guy. Obviously he's tall at 6"2 but slowish at 4.5 speed. Horn had bad games this year but at 4.39 is quick. Nice size at 6"1.  Stokes is 6"1 with 4.25 speed with good SEC tape. So how have people got Stokes stacked as the weakest 1st round CB?

I guess it depends if you want a guy who can also play press man, but Stokes would excel in Buffalo's zone, also giving them coverage for speed guys. I guess this is the hill I die on this year. 😆.

I will say that I expect Phillips to fall. Medically retired from football after his freshman year? Oof.

  15. I've been watching the NFL since I was 7. The days of Walter Payton and William Perry. I found the game mesmerizing back then all the razzmatazz and explosive plays.

Maybe it's normal at a young age that you simply don't care about roster construction you just follow favorite players. Nowadays living in the US I take much more interest in the draft.

I love the idea of finishing order deciding pick position. I want a competitive league and this is a system that should give bad teams a chance at parity.

There are things that I find odd about the pre draft process I honestly think the combine is weird and even a little creepy. Players' traits aren't measured in this way in the sports I watched growing up, even though clearly elite traits are desirable.

My highlight is the Senior Bowl. I find the stories surrounding smaller school guys much more compelling. I like the idea that they are dropped into a group of strangers and asked to play. Pleased that they were able to hold it this year.

As draft approaches I find that a sort of concensus about where guys 'should' be picked emerges across various mock draft sites. What I find interesting is how so many fans can't see beyond that pundits pecking order despite the fact that many players wont live up to that draft position because of scheme or personal struggles or simply because a flashy highlight reel at college can be meaningless in a different context. We all remember the hype around numerous failed top 10 picks.

I find the idea of watching 'film' or 'tape' amusing because it sounds so old fashioned. I like football, but I can't imagine watching a whole game and focusing on one player. It really seems like a laborious and by no means fool proof way of figuring out how successful they will be at the next level. Kudos to those with the patience to do so.

There's so much that I don't understand, so my method is to find some guys who are balanced in their assessments but aren't afraid to be bold in defending outliers. For me Joe Marino, Daniel Jeremiah and Kiper.

Finally, here is my bold (and likely incorrect) prediction for this year. After the blue chip guys, I reckon you can get similar value at the end of the first than around picks 10-15, just like in 2016 + 2017.

Kenny Clark 27 -Sheldon Rankins 12

    William Jackson 24>Eli Apple 10

Tre White 27- Marathon Lattimore 11

    TJWatt 30> Derek Barnett 14

This will be an unpopular opinion especially the last:

      Surtain-Stokes

      Paye-Phillips

      Darrisaw-Cosmi

      Pitts-Friermuth

Golladay would be the clear number 1 in cinci IMO as he is way better than Boyd and Higgins

He could be a number 1, for sure but it's not cut and dried. Boyd and Higgins were having great seasons until Burrow went down. I guess it's kind of irrelevant either way.

I tell you if I was CIN, I would be more worried about fixing defence and OLine. Their HC will lose his job with another below .500 season.

I don't love the Sanders signing but I don't hate it either. It's just with the way the market is right now for WR I wonder if they could have picked up Fuller or JUJU on a 1 year prove it for 7-8 per.

True.  But a guy who's been in the league 3 years and his best year is 50% catches for 500 yds is the equivalent of the Bills taking a risk on Mitch Trubisky (or Case Keenum) as their franchise man.

I beg to differ. Teams have a stable of Wrs. What do we have like 7 or 8 at the moment? So you get a guy near vet min. He fails. You cut him. You have options. I can't therefore compare it to QB. The cost risk is also much different.

He's only played for 1 franchise. An abysmal franchise with established receivers. You are backing your coaching and physio's to turn it round. He's young and has traits. It's not inconceivable that he could do better. You see it all the time in FA. Like the guy Floyd on the Rams in LA this year.

The counter argument is the lowered cap and I do get that.
