Allen played himself out of the elite tier. He’s borderline top 5 at this point and needs to perform next season (with poise and consistency) to earn the hype.

I've never understood the need for some people to go to another team's message board and be a jerk.

It's sad to think of someone who's life is so empty that they take some kind of perverse pleasure in trying to aggravate complete strangers on a football message board.

I'm not sure if it's just pitiful or pathological.

    @Airseven, you need some help.

It will never happen.   Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Herbert, Hurts, Jackson are the face of the NFL. They are going to see maximum number of primetime games.

    I suspect you're right.

For years I used to hope for primetime games for the Bills.  Now I'd love to just have 1 pm starts on Sunday.  I think as long as we have Josh that's not going to be in the cards.  The Bills are a victim of their own success.

Good point, especially about playoff refereeing. Problem  I see is that after Diggs, Davis, Shakir, Harty and Sherfield, only one of those tall receivers will make the roster. Kincaid will make as a tight end, but Shorter, Shavers, Wayne and Patmon could be fighting for one spot. Although there could a surprise cut. Bills could end up with  a deep practice squad, assuming none of the tall receivers get poached. Will make for an interesting camp.

Fair point BD51, but I think the Bills end up carrying seven WRs this season because both Shorter and Shavers are apparently special teams phenoms and should make the game day roster that way.  Unlike Taiwan Jones and Kumerow who were special team guys who offered nothing on offense, I think the Bills hope these guys can do both.  Throw Knox and Kincaid out there as well and the pass catchers are much bigger this year.

Like do you have any stats to base the bolded off of or are you making it up so your point sounds better?

Do I need to have stats to make that point?  I think it's pretty well understood that the refs try to "let them play" during the postseason.

I apologize if my OP hasn't lived up to the rigid scientific standards you demand from a TBD post.

I'll be sure to look for the reams of verified statistical analysis you provide the next time you offer an opinion here.

  5. The Bills have been dominant in the regular season but haven't had the same success in the playoffs.  One factor that has contributed to those frustrations is that playoff games are officiated differently.  The refs don't call defensive holding at the line of scrimmage like they do in the regular season.  DBs know they can mug at the snap and get away with it.  The Bills pass catchers were on the small size and more vulnerable to getting held by DBs playing press.

I think Beane made a deliberate decision to bring in bigger bodied pass catchers who can get off the line of scrimmage even when DBs are grabbing them.  If your team's 178 lb nickleback wants to try and hold our new 246 lb slot guy, or our new 6'4" 229 lb receiver, go ahead and take your chances.

Here are the new pass catchers on the 2023 roster as of today

    Trent Sherfield-   6'1"  219       FA

    Deonte Harty-     5'6"  170       FA

    Dalton Kincaid-    6'4"  246     Rookie  1st rd

    Justin Shorter-    6'4"  229      Rookie  5th rd

Tyrell Shavers-    6'4"  211       Rookie  UDFA

Jalen Wayne-      6'2"  207      Rookie  UDFA

We still have Gabe Davis who's 6'2" 210 and Dawson Knox at 6'4" 254.  They also have a WR on the PS that they've been developing, Dezmon Patmon, who is 6'4" and 225.  All together, that's a big group of pass catchers.

You'll have Diggs, Harty, and Shakir-- and every other Bills' WR is going to be big.  Beane is signing receivers who can fight through the DB's jam / holding and get out into their route.  Hopefully this change in roster philosophy will lead to more success in the passing game when it matters the most.

After stoically enduring two decades of slings and arrows from the worst fan base in professional sports, I do admit to feeling a small amount of pleasure when I see Patriot fans despairing as they find their team deep in the basement of the AFCE with no realistic prospects to turn things around anytime soon.  It was bad enough for them watching Josh Allen steal their lunch money, but now they find themselves in a division with the Jets and Dolphins firmly entrenched above them as well.

The Pats finished below .500 last year at 8 - 9.  This year Vegas has their over under win total at 7.5.  I don't think it would surprise anyone if they they lose every AFCE game this season.  In a QB driven league they have a fair to middling game manager under center.  They will continue to win enough games to avoid the very top of the draft where they can draft a marquee QB prospect.

Gone are the years when great vets would take a discount to come to New England to try to win a ring with Tom and Belichick.  Now there is a diminishing Belichick with no Tom and zero chance to win a championship.  Belichick is not adapting to the modern game and didn't even have an OC last year during Mac Jones' sophomore season to help him develop.

Reports are that those two are on the outs after Mac reached out to his Alabama coaches for help last season behind Bill's back.  Bill is great friends with Nick Saban and you know Bill feels humiliated with his QB going behind his back to ask Saban for advice.

As a long suffering Bills fan, I won't wish any active evil on the Patriots, but I will take some modicum of pleasure in watching them flail and flounder for the next few seasons as Belichick slowly fades away taking the franchise and their horrible fans down with him.

Pats fans had an incredible run and many believed that riding atop the AFCE and NFL was their birthright.  Well, the wheel turns and the Pats are now AFCE and NFL basement dwellers, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer group of people.

One could argue they now have a more complete roster than the Bills…

This makes them better right now, no doubt about it.  The only way this move is a win for them is if they win a Super Bowl this year.  Anything less and they have busted their cap and traded away the draft capital needed to start the rebuild.  They will win too many games to be selecting near the top of the draft where the best QB prospects will go.  If they want to trade up they will mortgage even more of their future to do so.

This is the ultimate win now move.  Joe Douglas is rolling the dice.

Bad news........by just trading a couple comp picks Brett Veach could likely move way up and get Bijan and relegate the Bills and the rest o the AFC to irrelevance for years to come.

You really should start a thread about this take.   It has "Mario for Skelton" potential resonance.......one way or the other........IMO.

But you're the one who keeps bringing it up?   I think you should start a thread on it since you felt the need to stalk me on the message board and bring it back up in a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with it.  OCD maybe?

Or maybe you should just cut back on the day drinking,  get a dog, and take a break from the keyboard for awhile.

he praised the head coach all the time. What are you even talking about? go listen to all the mcafee shows where Aaron sing his praises. You have zero clue what you’re talking about.

Rodgers and the Pack loved each other so much they we're willing to do anything to get rid of each other???   Rodgers' public statements are the equivalent of your kid telling you how much he loves his sister to your face while pulling her hair behind your back.

Rodgers isn't stupid enough to go on tv and submarine the coach and GM.  That work is done behind the scenes.

The truth will start to come out now that the deal is done and then we'll see who knows what they're talking about.

you realize he’s beloved in the locker room in Green Bay right? Where do people get these takes from?

Of course his fellow players loved him.  He spent all of his time and energy undermining the head coach and GM.   He poisoned the well in Green Bay with it.   He created an us versus them atmosphere in Green Bay between the players and the organization.

The entire organization suffered for it.

There is more than one type of locker room cancer.

unlikely. They are now an instant SB contender with a nasty D and strong RB

They are going to pay a locker room cancer and man who was 90% sure he was going to retire two months ago $50mm and burn some serious draft capital for the privilege.

It could work out but I have my doubts.  Time will tell.

I am certain of one thing though, if this thing goes sideways it is going to be must see tv!

I think Pacheco pretty much solidified that the Chiefs won’t take Bijan.

But the Bengals might.  Or the Eagles.

I’d be shocked if he made it to day 2.

If the Derrick Henry rumors are true I think you can take Philly out of the mix.

I’m not real excited to see Robinson lining up behind Burrow either.

I gave you an eyeroll because the same could have been said when they selected the then-spectacular Clyde Edwards Helaire.

We keep hearing that combining an elite RB with an elite QB is SOMEDAY going to lead to........apparently.........a RB who runs for 8 yards per carry........therefore not leading to less production per attempt than an elite QB throwing the ball on those plays.

And then that RB will also catches passes and produce just like a wide receiver so you aren't sacrificing throwing to said WR.

That's not how it works though.

The teams that have RB's that produce both a high volume of carries AND a high average per carry are the teams who are committed to running the football.

Light boxes sound tantalizing but teams that run the ball well consistently do it because that is their style of football.    Teams that don't have erratic results when they try to change their style.   Just too many mistakes can be made.

In today's NFL.......committing to run the football enough to feed a 20+ touch per game RB comes at the expense of your passing game.

It's just not the 1990's anymore where you need the run game to set up the pass.

Nowadays your elite QB can drop back and throw the ball 40+ times per game and dominate..........and maybe not even get sacked or turn the ball over..........and those yards per play are significantly higher than what you will get from ANY high use RB.

No one puts Bijon Robinson and Edwards-Helaire in the same sentence.  That’s comparing apples and toaster ovens.

The Bills have an elite QB who does throw the ball 40 times a game and it’s obviously not been enough to win a championship.

Its easy to ignore the run game and drop everyone into coverage when there’s an average RB behind Allen or Mahomes.  Put Robinson back behind them and now you’ve gotta make a hard choice as a defense.  A smart QB, like Josh and Mahomes will audible every time to take advantage of the mismatch the defense gives them.

The Bills can field that advantage, or the Chiefs can field that advantage.  I know where I stand on that choice.

I hope the Texans draft him with one of their two first rounders and save us all from this and then the Bills can grab the two best O-linemen left on the board in the first two rounds.

All I know is the the prospect of Andy Reid with Mahomes, Kelce, and Bijon Robinson would drive a stake through the heart of the Bills' Super Bowl aspirations for years.  It would be an unstoppable offense.  KC getting Robinson at pick 31 would be disgusting.

If Bijon Robinson is there at pick 27, the Bills need to draft him.  Don't even answer the phone.  Turn in the card.

If he ends up in Andy Reid's offense we're done.

@BADOLBILZ gave me an eyeroll emoji for my post above.  No reason why I’m wrong, of course, just an eye roll.

Andy Reid, best offensive coach in the NFL

Mahomes top 2 QB in the NFL

Travis Kelce top TE in the NFL

2nd best O-line in the NFL

And then you add what is likely to be the top three down RB in the NFL to that offense?

The Chiefs offense would be a point scoring  juggernaut and Josh can stand on his head all game long and we’re not keeping up with them score for score.

Where am I wrong here?  What do the Bills add in this draft on offense to keep up with that?
