  1. Our Office watching, blue cheese dipping, Frank Sinatra listening, Phil Mickelson impersonating QB gets top billing from the talking heads at NFL.com this week.  A part of the blurb on Allen is below;

    "Late-'80s Football Heads would have exploded into a billion fragments at the sight of Josh Allen. His brilliant play against the Rams put his one-of-a-kind physical gifts on full display before Planet Earth: using his 6-foot-5, 237-pound alpha-doused framework to swat away a doomed defender, hurl his body into paydirt and patiently hunt for gold. Allen is built to overcome the occasional gaffe. His two picks -- the first coming off an Isaiah McKenzie bobble that wound up in the hands of a defender -- melt away against the overall body of work.

    Allen’s chemistry with on-field dance partner Stefon Diggs is special. The game-sealing 53-yard touchdown shot to the wideout came with Allen darting away from defenders and hurling the ball while moving at 13.6 mph, the fastest recorded time on a completion of 50-plus yards in the history of Next Gen Stats. Having crossed over from our NFL offices to SoFi Stadium to watch this game live, it became clear: He’s the most physically dominant quarterback I’ve ever seen in person."

  2. 3 keys to the game;

    1.  As usual, it all comes down to containing Derrick Henry.  The Titans had 46 offensive snaps vs the Giants last week and 21 of them were runs to Henry and he had one target in the passing game.   47.8% of the entire Titans' offense vs the Giants was Henry.  There were only five runs to someone other than Henry last week.

    2.  This relates to point 1 above, the Bills' offense needs to get off to a fast start and put points on the board and force the ball out of Henry's hands and into Tannehill's.  I don't think Tannehill can go toe to toe with Josh in a shoot out.  That offense is not going to score more than 30 points against our defense.  The Titans have to be hoping to keep Henry on the field chewing up clock and Allen sitting on the bench.  The Bills can't let that happen.

    3.  The Titans' defense had 5 sacks and 8 QB hits on Daniel Jones last week.  I think that our O-Line is more capable than the Giants, but keeping Josh upright is going to be vital to keep drives alive and put points on the board.

  3. Before everyone breaks a finger writing that we didn't trade Diggs for Jefferson, the end result is exactly that.  I'm hard pressed to think of another trade that was more beneficial FOR BOTH SIDES of a trade.  There are plenty of trades where one side gets an incredible value and the other side gets hosed, but I think both the Bills and the Vikings got more than they could've hoped for in this trade.    Knowing what they know now, I think both teams would still make that trade today.

    Week 1;

    Jefferson - 9 catches - 184 yards - 2 TDs

    Diggs -       8 catches - 122 yards -  1 TD

    You have to give Justin Jefferson his due, he is amazing and may be a better pure receiver than Diggs is.    We'll never know if the Bills would have drafted Jefferson had they not traded their 1st rounder for Diggs.   I suspect that if Jefferson had been drafted by the Bills he would probably excel here too.  He's just an incredible talent.  But the Bills needed more than just a true WR1 when they traded for Diggs

    Beane was looking for a WR1 with a veteran presence in the locker room to help this team grow.  He knew Allen needed someone who had been around and could help Allen take that next step.  With all the talk coming out of Minnesota about Diggs being a diva, I don't think the Bills could ask anything more of Diggs than what he has already given this team since his arrival.   I don't think this franchise is where it is today without Diggs in a Bills uniform.

    The Vikings are relevant because of Justin Jefferson and have an elite WR1 on a 1st round rookie contract and they can build around him for years.  The Bills have a veteran WR1 in Diggs who is elite in his own right and who has bought into "the process" making Allen and everyone else in that locker room better by being there.

    Admittedly, I'm not a student of the game like many on this board are, but I can't think of another trade that did more for both sides than Diggs/Jefferson did.

  4. The stat line doesn't tell the whole story either.  I remember a play where Miller was chasing down Stafford who had bailed out of the pocket and was running for his life to his left.  Miller was closing in and Stafford threw the football into the dirt so fast you'd have thought there was a tarantula on it.

    That play doesn't make it onto the stat sheet but was another play that Miller blew up.

    Let's just hope this doesn't piss Von off As he was pretty clear that he wants to be on the field as much as possible.

    Although, it's only week 1 so I'm betting he slowly ramps up to 65-70 percent eventually.

    You might be right BillsRan130, but I hope 33 year old Von Miller is smart and realizes that if he gets that kind of stat line playing half the snaps and ends up adding a few more productive seasons to his career, that's a pretty good situation for him to be in.

    The Bills' brain trust also has a vested interest in keeping him productive over the long term with the contract they gave him.  Unless it's playoff time, I would expect Von to hover right around that 50% snap count range.

  6. 35 snaps works out to 52% of the defensive snaps that night.  That makes Miller's stat line even more impressive;

    4 total tackles

    4 solo tackles

    3 tackles for loss

    2 sacks

    It's an amazing amount of production for just 52% of the defensive snaps.  Contrast this with Miller's usage last season, when playing with the Broncos he had a 76% snap count, and when he went to the Rams he was on the field for 79% of their defensive snaps.

    If Frazier can continue to keep Miller at around 50% of defensive snaps it should increase Von's longevity and let him roll into the playoffs with a lot of gas left in his tank.  This D-Line rotation is going to eat all year and being able to run a fresh Von Miller out onto the field in the 4th quarter is going to be huge for this defense.

    sorry

    "Josh Allen HAS Consistency"

    have a good day as well.

    I was talking about consistency across the course of the season.  If he can eliminate games like the Steelers, Jags, Colts and Falcons from last season (almost a quarter of the regular season games) he will own the NFL.

    I think we're on the same side here.

    Josh just needs consistency.  He has all the tools at this point.  He ended the season last year playing at this amazing level and he has picked up right where he left off.  Let's hope he can maintain it.  With Allen playing like this and a legit defense, this could end up being a very special season.

    he needs consistency? are you nuts? the first INT was not his fault.

    The second INT, I put that 50% on the WR. You have to understand JA got used to a Beasley squaring his rout. putting effort into doing so. Crowder is a different football player where Crowder uses a lot of deception in his game. When Crowder cut out and realized the CB was on his front side and not on back side, then Crowder should have ran his rout going slightly back to the line of scrimmage so he had the angle. he didn't do it and these are nuances Josh needs to learn from his new WR that played very little in the preseason together. This being said Josh should not of thrown that ball so i put that throw 50% Crowder 50% Josh.

    Josh threw the ball 31 times completed the ball 26 times.

    Math time

    31 throws

    -26

    5 passes went somewhere else

    -1 int not his fault

    So 4 passes went somewhere else

    Diggs every day catches that td, went through his hands

    so 3 passes went somewhere else

    -1 int (for the sake of argument) was joshes fault brings us to

    1 ball was thrown away

    another was a tough throw under pressure.

    THREE passes out of 31. you think Brady never threw INT's?

    Lets get one more thing straight. Those announcers last night for a while thought they were watching Tom Brady play last night.  and you say he has consistency issues? Just Stop.

    I said before the game that our CB's would look better then some thought and because of the Von Miller effect, that game would not look close. I said it in these forums. and if you take away a rookies fumble, we have 7-10 more points on the board.

    Gulp that down.

     I went back and reread my post.  I'm not sure why you're all worked up into a lather over it.

    Have a nice day.

    🍻

  9. Benford got the start last night and looked like he belonged.  He even got the final pass breakup of the game to force a turn over on downs when the Rams tried to add a garbage TD to make the box score look better.  The secondary only had one penalty during the game and it was on one of the rookies, it was a defensive holding on Taron Johnson.

    Strong D-line play and fantastic Safety play will certainly help the DBs play well, but the rookie DBs didn't look lost or out of place.  Kupp got his grove on but I don't know which DB in the NFL can shut him down the way he is playing now.

    In a night where the biggest question mark heading into the game was the Bills secondary, I think they answered the question pretty well.

    So is his accuracy spotty or can he throw it as well as anyone in the history of the sport?  I don't know about the presnap reads but that could be true since he holds onto the ball longer than all other QB's.  I think it could be that he does not trust his presnap reads and prefers to know the guy is open and throw it.  He said as much with the Simms interview.  He is not as much a 1-2-3 ball out on time to a spot.....I am ok with that!  He also needs to run people over less often than he was last year.

    Hey Matt,

    I got a different take from the interview.  I thought Allen said that on every route the receiver has the freedom to extend the route or cut it short or move in or out based on their read of the coverage.  Allen holds the ball until the receiver declares where he is going and then he pulls the trigger.  I think it was more an issue of Allen making sure that he and the receiver were on the same sheet of music about where the receiver was going and less to do with Allen's read of the defense.

    I hope he has a great rebound season for a few reasons;

    1st;   He seems like a genuinely good guy.

    2nd;  I've always been a sucker for a good comeback story.

    3rd; The idea of coming to Buffalo to revitalize your NFL career is a great narrative for the Bills.

    Good luck Mitch!

    (Except for Week 5.  I hope you throw 5 picks that week and fumble twice)

  12. Beasley, Sanders, Williams, and Star are vets on the downside of their career.  They helped stabilize the Bills' roster when Beane was tearing it down and building it back up and were solid free agent contributors.  In each case Beane found younger players to do the job for less at the same or close to the same level.  I think it's just the normal churn of an NFL roster in the salary cap era and nothing more.

  13. I don't see what the Bills should have done differently.

    They heard of an allegation.  It might be true, it might be completely fabricated.  They have no way to know.  They start to look into the matter because Araiza totally denies the accusations.  He is entitled to some due process by the Bills.

    The civil case is filed and now it becomes a media issue and it becomes a huge dark cloud and distraction hanging over the team.  Beane and McDermott make the judgement that it is better for the team to release Araiza instead of dragging this anchor around for the entire season.

    This is a Super Bowl caliber roster and having this distraction could put the season in jeopardy.  They cut Araiza for the good of the team.

    At this point no one knows if these allegations are true or not.  If a lawyer calls your place of work and alleges a heinous crime against you that you adamantly deny, what would you want your company to do?  I think Beane gave it as much time as he could to look into the matter and try to figure out the truth but ultimately the clock ran out when the civil suit was filed.

    I think they played it straight and have nothing to apologize for.

    The Bills are not going to have enough time to figure out if the allegations against Araiza are true between now and the start of the season.  I think they want to give Araiza the benefit of being innocent until proven guilty because some of these cases end up being garbage, i.e. the Duke Lacrosse team.  Ultimately though, they just can't go into the regular season with him as the punter if this controversy isn't resolved and I don't see how it gets resolved in the next couple of days. Innocent or not, Araiza is about to get cut and they are going to have to bring in a new punter / holder ASAP to get acclimated with Furgason and Bass.

    Having been in the world of high-tech startup companies out here in CA for a long time...  This guy sounds EXACTLY like an superbrain tech guy.   Extremely knowledgeable about the technical aspects of what he does, but misses large chunks of what's going on around him people-wise.   It really feels like he has been over-promoted to head coach.   He may have the "big picture" view of running an offense, but he doesn't have the big picture view of running a team and being the face of the organization.

    As head coach, the job is so much more than X's and O's.    I don't think he can pull it off like Belicheck because he just talks to damn much and will talk himself into trouble.  Just watch his videos.

    I work in medicine and there are a lot of people with high IQs and low EQs.  I'm dumb as a box of rocks but can talk to anyone.  I sometimes think that's the better side of the equation.
