  1. I actually watched a lot of McKissic last season because I had drafted Antonio Gibson in my fantasy football league as my #2 RB.  Most games I just yelled at the tv screen because McKissic was on the field all the damn time and Gibson was holding his helmet on the sideline.

    McKissic has game and this signing adds an element to the offense and also mitigates some of what we lose with Beasley going.  I think this was another smart, low key Beane signing that is going to age very well as the season goes on.

    ESPN's Dan Graziano reports that the Browns are "doing due diligence" on potentially available veteran quarterbacks.

    "I heard lots of rumblings in the latter part of this week about Cleveland making a trade for a quarterback and possibly shipping out Mayfield," Graziano writes. The Browns have been regarded as a "wild card" entry to the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes, and while they have committed to Baker Mayfield publicly, a "big fish" could reportedly change that. This article cautions that Mayfield is still the favorite to start for the Browns in 2022, but his hold on the job appears to be tenuous.

    Apparently not set in stone that Baker returns as the starter.  This rumor will surely not sit well with Baker and I'm sure he'll be unable to resist responding to it.  Hopefully this will get interesting...

    For sure! These guys have to make it while they can

    Stafford is the highest paid player in NFL history. He was one of the lucky QBs to get the big rookie contract before the new CBA capped rookie wages  in 2011.  He has made $239 million so far.  Now he is queued up to make another $100+.

    Not bad work if you can get it.

  4. The QB contract inflation continues...

    Here's a blurb about Stafford that mentions Cousins;

    Here's a link to an article about the Cousin's negotiations;

    It is expected to be a 3-4 year deal for Stafford.  Makes Josh's 6 year extension at an average of  $42 million a year look better every day.  I think this is going to be a recurring theme as more and more QBs take their turn at the NFL QB money trough.

    The guy has never played like Kupp.  If he had that kind of talent, we would have seen it by now.  Love him, great role player, but he is a role player.  Some team that thinks they have a one-year window might bite, a team that sees him as the crucial final piece for the receiver room.  But not a team that is building for the long term.

    2021

    Beasley  112 targets,  82 catches

    Cupp      191 targets,  145 catches

    I don't think Beasley is as good as Cupp either, but if you put Beasley on an offense and make an effort to get him the ball every game he will easily have 100+ catches out of the slot.  We had entire games where Beasley wasn't a part of the game plan at all.   I still think Beasley has a few really good seasons left in him.   I hate that he's leaving but understand the business side of it too.

    I wish him well.

  6. I don't understand people saying teams will balk at Beasley's contract.  $7 million for a top three slot receiver who is still fully capable of 100 catches in a season???  If he were the focus of the offense like Cupp was this year he could have had 120 catches.  I hate that he's leaving.  I think his off the field issues are coloring some people's opinions of his on the field ability.

    Having said that, we're negative $2 million in cap space right now.  Beane needs to clear some cap and there aren't that many places to do that.  I think Beane is happy with Diggs, Davis, and Knox.

    Beane might also think that Josh is the kind of QB who will elevate whoever is out there running routes for him.

    Geez Jets have quite a few quality picks.  Can they get it together and build a team around Zach Wilson?

    The Jets are not in the QB sweepstakes this year either.  They might be able to trade back further into the 1st round and pick up some more quality picks.  I know that the QB class is not supposed to be great this year, but as the draft gets closer the QBs will start moving up the board with all the pre-draft hype.

  8. Just some reference numbers on the AFCE going into the off season in one place.  The cap space thing remains a mystery to me as teams always seem to be able to make moves whether they have cap space or not.  The draft picks below do not include compensatory picks,

    Cap Space;

    Phins;  $66 million;  1st in NFL

    Jets;    $44 million;  5th in NFL

    Pats;    $7 million;    21st in NFL

    Bills:    - $2 million;  25th in NFL

    Draft Picks;

    Phins;

    1st,   #29

    2nd,  #50

    3rd,  #101

    4th,  #119,  #123

    5th,  #157

    6th,  #199

    7th,  #222

    Jets;

    1st,   #4,  #10

    2nd,  #35,  #38

    3rd,  #69

    4th,  #109,  #115

    5th,  #145,  #162

    Pats;

    1st,   #21

    2nd,  #54

    3rd,  #85

    4th,  #125

    6th,  #209

    Bills;

    1st,   #25

    2nd,  #57

    3rd,  #89

    4th,  #128

    5th,  #167

    6th,  #183,  #202

    7th,  #229,  #244

  9. We have been wanting a top echelon TE in Buffalo for years.  Remember the Charles Clay Experiment?  Now we have one of the best young TEs in the AFC who probably hasn't reached his ceiling yet.  The Bills need to make the investment to keep him around.   Looking at Beane's modus operandi with previous extensions, I would expect that extension will happen sooner rather than later.  The longer you wait, the more you pay.

    No question about it Josh Allen is the best QB in the NFL.

    Sometimes it's fun to go back in time to revisit draft day 2018.  We all hoped Allen would be good but I don't think even the most optimistic saw how good he would become.  Whether he is the best QB in the NFL or not, he is certainly in the conversation.  That is no small thing.

    Just for fun, here is the draft day thread;

    And that is it when you sign a Quaterback to an extension you know that the first couple of years you are going to have to make some cap decisions. The Bills will as well. They have next year and the way they have structured things they probably have 2023 too and then their window will narrow (no close, narrow) for a couple of years and then open up again at the backend of the deal. The difference is having an elite guy like Allen keeps the window open in that intervening period. When you have a guy who is just in the "good" category like Derek Carr then those two years when that deal still feels expensive are tough. But the alternative is shouting "stop the world I want to get off" that is just a bad strategy.

    Agree.

    I think people are undervaluing the fact that Josh agreed to a six year extension on the tail end of his rookie deal.  Going forward, I suspect most QBs won't be willing to sign a contract extension longer than 4 years because of their desire to get another quick bite of an ever growing apple.  Josh didn't cut the Bills any slack with the annual average amount of his contract, it was a market value contract.  Where he helped the Bills was with the length of the contract.

    Josh's six year extension is looking better everyday.   We really got lucky with the timing of Josh's contract and the state of the salary cap.  We're even luckier that Josh agreed to tack six years onto the end of his rookie contract.  He'd be worth $50+ if his contract was extended next year.

  13. Another Buffalo Bills angel who can watch the games upstairs with my dad.  Be advised, my dad has been know to throw around some colorful expletives when the Bills fumble, throw a pick, or commit a stupid penalty.

    I wish they both could have seen their team win the Super Bowl.  I'm truly sorry for your family's loss.  God Bless.

    Again I think the majority of the Chiefs think that as a overall team the Bills are better.

    Most Chiefs fans would rather face any other team than the Bills.

    The Key at the end of the day is how Allen plays, I think most fans would agree or at least somewhat agree he has a really low floor but a crazy high ceiling for game to game.

    Mahomes bad games are usually not awful and when he has a down game its typically against a good defense.

    My prediction is if Allen is on, 42-31 Bills

    If Allen is so/so I think its a coinflip

    If Allen is off I think 31-21 Chiefs

    You guys have a really good team this year and hope for a great game!

    I really expect both Mahomes and Allen to be on their game tomorrow night.  I think it might come down to which defense is able to make a play.

    Same can be said for this board.  You guys are not lacking in confidence either.  Should be a good one.

    Hey mankc!  Welcome to the board.  🙂

    It should be a great game.  I wish it was the AFC Championship game.  There are definitely some posters here who think the Bills will win, but there is nothing here like this thread on the Chiefs Planet website.  https://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=341995  There is some really ugly stuff in that thread.  I had registered on the Chiefs Planet website this week to post some messages there about the game.  After reading that thread I reconsidered.

    Let's hope it's a great game that comes down to the wire, no injuries. and no officiating nonsense.   May the best team win.

    🍻

  16. I've been visiting the Chiefs board and they are certainly not lacking in confidence over there.  I have no idea how this game is going to go.  I think they are two great teams with elite QB play.  I think if the teams played 10 times it would be a 5-5 split or 6-4.   I think this game is a toss up and it is going to come down to sacks and turnovers.  The team that protects the ball and their QB better is going to win.  Let's hope it's not the officials who determine the outcome.
