Are people really that unhappy with our 4-2 Bills?
ngbills replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
Then lets just shut down these boards until January. Come on folks. It does not take a genius to see see and acknowledge at 4-2 the Bills have underperformed. That does not mean it wont change. Its just where they are right now. Going back to why at 4-2 many people are negative. Because they are not where they should be and even the coaches see it. They have plenty of time between now and January to do just that. Why is it so easy for people to say the 5-1 MIA Dolphins are not that good. They have beat no one and the defense sucks. The 5-1 KC Chiefs do not look Super Bowl caliber. They have no WR's and Mahomes looks like trash. But being disappointed in a 4-2 Bills team that has lost to NYJ (Zach Wilson), Jax, and nearly lost to a Tyrod Taylor led Giant team, makes you clueless and or a bad fan for some reason. I bet a lot of Chiefs fans think they should be playing better and they should. We are in the same boat, which is a good thing not a bad one. -

I am focused on the what we know vs the what we dont know. Obviously we all want and hope that the Bills can be in the perennial discussion of super bowl hopefuls. But that is not a given. Hence, you have a team on the verge of a super caliber roster you cant afford to wait we have plenty of time. -

No I am addressing the premise that 4-2 is not good enough and the general discussion that just winning more than we lose is good enough. -

I agree that the window is potentially long. My point is right now the window is bigger given the situation. As Allen ages and other players as well there is greater uncertainty about said window. We know what we have right now. We dont know who will replace Diggs, Morse, Dawkins, etc as guys age out. We replace them we are always in good shape with Allen, but he cant do it on his own especially when he is no longer superman Allen. -

I would not call it Super Bowl or bust. But at this point we are past just competing for a playoff spot and possibly losing the division to MIA. -
NFL wants to eliminate "hip drop" tackles
ngbills replied to BaaadThingsMan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Guys would get hurt if it were flag football. I wonder how many injuries are due to big hits vs just random stuff. Most of our injuries have all seemed to be on normal plays that could not be avoided with some rule change. -

So you really believe if Josh did not have the elite physical skills that he would be just as good? I am not saying he cant be a pocket passer. I am saying he is most effective and dangerous when he can utilize his athleticism, not only to run the ball but also avoid sacks and do the highlight reel stuff that we see. It creates a big issue for defenses trying to defend him. If not lets just go with a more traditional offense and see how it goes. Oh yeah, we just kind of saw that vs the Giants. -

Much of his success has been due to his off script and improvisation. As he becomes less mobile much of that goes away. Josh is a good QB but it has not been due to playing traditional QB. -

Yes, Josh age is an issue in that he wont be the dual threat he is forever. We all hope they will be as capable when that happens but it is a big ?. -

I wish the Pats had this mindset and stuck with Drew Bledsoe -

I will add. Everyone complains of injuries and guys getting worn down from a long season. Would be nice to have some blowouts vs teams like the NYG so guys can rest. Instead we played to their level and have our franchise QB on the injury report along with other guys. -

Its about expectations. Are you happy with a playoff contender or do you want a championship. The question is - will it be easier or harder to win next year, the next, etc. With Josh Allen's age and contract plus other players age the time is now to win. So when the team is on track to "only" be fighting for a playoff spot it leads to disappointment. -
After nine games, where do you think the Bills end up this season?
ngbills replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
Lets do an experiment - Dorsey stay home. Lets play a game with zero shotgun draws. Mix in shotgun with under center and playaction. Lets try Kincaid down the seam. More slants to Diggs with Harty running a deep post. Roll Josh out with guys running crossing routes. Let Josh take off if its open o run. Cook running upfield routes not just dump offs behind the line. Maybe try it and see how it goes. At least just ditch the shotgun draw for one game please. -

OL is better: Maybe, maybe not Allen sacked 9 times this year vs 9 times last year Bills have 709 rushing yards on 162 attempts or 4.4 per vs 707 last year on 146 attempts or 4.8 per Pass rush is better: Yes 23 sacks this year vs 19 last year 70 pressures this year vs 58 last year 21 hurries this year vs 15 last year We still have Josh Allen: Allen last year better. I dont care if he is better at throwing the ball for a 1 yard gain. He is not throwing downfield yet still has more int's, less yards passing and rushing, less td's and is still getting hit a lot. Yards this year 1576 vs 1980 last year TD's this year 13 vs 17 last year Int's this year 6 vs 4 last year Rushing yards this year 131 vs 257 last year -

Always hoping for the best - winning a super bowl. But this year will be tough. For seeding or even making the playoffs we have road games @ CIN, PHI, KC, LAC, MIA and home games vs DAL, NYJ (yes, jets will be another tough game). That is 7 games that are no walk in the park. So getting to 12-5 is not a guarantee meaning we may be fighting for a wild card if MIA does not stumble. Their path is a bit easier with road games only at PHI and BAL. They get KC, BUF and DAL at home. They dont choke games Pats, LVR, WAS, NYJx2, and TEN they are at 11 wins right there. They only need to squeak out 1-2 of the tough ones to get to 12 wins. Feels like they have a much easier path to 12 than we do. But anything can happen and that is why we play the games. Week 17 is looking like to will be huge. Would not be surprised if its a pre-cursor to the wild card game the next week. -
What kind of football background do you have?

The poll results on coaching experience explains a lot -
A good 3 is what Davis does. He can catch zero passes in a game and it does not hurt you. You are not relying on him to be a threat every play. When your 1 is doubled and tripled he does not need to become the go to receiver. He will catch a long TD here, a big 1st down there. Many of his routes or decoys and when the D is sleeping you go to him.

Team "posing" to sign Johnson will be the one that signs Fournette.

In retrospect, was letting McKenzie go a mistake?

I hated the Harty signing and so many people told me I was clueless. Uhh the fumbled punt he should have let bounce into the end zone… -

3 plays for 1 yd was not good enough? -
FYI Mahomes averages about 3-4 runs game and I dont think anyone considers him a running qb.
-
Its about smart running. Taking off and getting out of bounds. Not taking hits. Rolling out and taking off for the yards if they are there, throwing it away if not.
