It was horrible defense. But do you really think, say, Trevor Lawrence or Tua would've pulled that off? I highly doubt it. Beyond the Bills charity, the 13 seconds disaster still required a high level of execution from the Chiefs and an innate understanding of how to quickly identify and attack the weakness in coverage (specifically the positioning of Levi Wallace) by 2 All Pro players in Mahomes and Kelce.

Strongly disagree. With our defensive alignment I think there's 25+ QBs that could've pulled off the 13 second drive. I'll grant that maybe McD would've called different plays if it wasn't Mahomes back there, but that's impossible to know.

It's part of what makes 13 seconds just that galling. It's one thing to lose to Mahomes when he pulls magic out of his butt. It's another to literally hand him free plays on a silver platter. I think the average TBD poster could've made the first throw to Tyreek.

  2. Imagine getting fired after holding KC to 19 points in regulation (7 off a special teams turnover) while forcing 5 punts and 2 turnovers.

That's light years better than any Bills DEF performance against the Chiefs in the playoffs.

People arguing that Allen should have been MVP over Lamar while I'm sitting here thinking that it should be a punishable offense that he was given more points than Tyreek Hill or Stroud

What I find interesting is that 24 out of the 50 voters left Josh entirely off their ballot. In what world does he not deserve at least a top 5 vote for this season ?

Or as Lamar proved by his win tonight, the stats don’t even have to be “great,” just don’t be perceived to have cost your team multiple games.

If you're going to have a bad game, don't do it in a national primetime game like Josh did against the Jets. Do it in a game no one is watching.

And make sure to throw the ball away or take a sack on 4th down rather than 'risk' a turnover.

    4th & 2 at PIT 23

    (0:13 - 2nd) (No Huddle, Shotgun) L.Jackson pass incomplete deep right to Z.Flowers [C.Holcomb].

    4th & 7 at BAL 28

(0:15 - 4th) (Shotgun) L.Jackson sacked at BLT 22 for -6 yards (T.Watt). PENALTY on PIT-T.Watt, Unsportsmanlike Conduct, 15 yards, enforced between downs.

So LJ now has 1 playoff win and 2 MVP’s?

2 playoff wins in his career. Who could forget the thrilling 20-13 victory over the Ryan Tannehill Titans in 2020?

  6. He's good but not great. I think his stats this year were mostly a result of being healthy and playing on a good offense.

    1) Drops. 4 easy TDs dropped this season

    2) Fumbles

    3) Unwillingly to lower his head for extra yards. He had a few plays this year where he made a 'business decision' to quit on plays rather than try to plow ahead for a 1st. Not a good look when your teams QB is looking for more contact than your RB1

Mildly disappointing for a 2nd rd RB pick, but he's fine for now. No need to look for an upgrade until his rookie contract is up

  7. I'll guess 5 years 280 mil. The next guy that signs always gets the highest AAV

The Fish will structure the contract for lower guarantees and have outs though.

It'll be interesting to see if Allen re-negotiates before his contract is up. His AAV is 43mm and if he was signing a contract today it would be close to 60mm. Thankfully he seems to care more about winning a championship than maximizing personal earnings.

  8. Can't say I'm surprised by the hire. McBeane are loyal guys and like to promote from within.

Brady had Josh running the ball a lot more and the offense seemed like they were having more fun out there. Total yards and points are pretty comparable between the Brady games and Dorsey games.

The Brady-offense was mediocre to bad in the wins against Chiefs, Chargers, Patriots, and Dolphins. I wonder how Brady would be viewed on here had Toney not lined up offside. Or if the DEF didn't force 4 turnovers vs the Pats. Or if the Dolphins had the punt return for a TD instead of us.

Ironically enough the defense saw a bigger improvement after we fired Dorsey than the offense did.

Yards per play given up in each of our last 5 playoff losses (kneeldowns excluded):

    Chiefs 2024 - 8.5

    Bengals 2023 - 6.0

    Chiefs 2022 - 7.6

    Chiefs 2021 - 7.4

    Texans 2020 - 5.6

As a point of reference, the worst defense in the league this gave up 6.0 yards per play. Our best effort on here, 5.6 yards per play, would have ranked 27th.

So there are two possibilities to finally break through in the playoffs. Either our defense stops giving up historically bad yards per play, or we build up our offensive supporting cast so that it can consistently produce historically great yards per play. It's very hard to win games when your yards per play differential is negative.

Has a top ranked regular season defense ever disappeared this many years in a row in the playoffs ?

    Okay, that’s fine.

It’s also fair to say that this year was probably one of his better coaching jobs. Hard to fire a guy who pulled the team out of the (fire) like that.

I didn't mention it but I do agree McD is a good coach. I just think he's not good enough to win a SB.

I don't like the idea of praising him for pulling the team out of the fire when he was the primary reason we were in the fire to begin with. The losses to the Patriots, Broncos, and Eagles were overwhelmingly due to poor defense and coaching.

  11. During the preseason if I told you we'd have a healthy Josh Allen for the whole season and that we finished 11-6 with a home divisional round loss would you be happy with those results ?

    I know I wouldn't.

What if I told you that a coaching blunder would directly cost us a game (Broncos) and that poor defense would cost us multiple games (Patriots, Eagles) ? That our defense would force only 1 punt in yet another playoff loss meltdown?

We've hit the ceiling with McDivisional. It's time to move on

He tried on the last drive by fumbling and then throwing that dropped pick.

It did seem on that last drive Josh lost some of that patience that was working so well all game.  If he just kept taking those checkdowns on that last sequence, they were still there to move the chains.

    What dropped interception?

I remember McDuffie getting 1 hand on a throw, but he wasn't close to catching it

I don’t know enough about the cap to understand if Diggs plus a pick for Lamb at some point could work?

Both players relationships with their current team/qb seem strained.

Currently Diggs active cap hit for 2024 is 27.9mm

Below are the possible scenarios for trading/cutting him:

    PRE-6/1 RELEASE

    2024 Dead Cap: $31,096,000

    2024 Cap Savings: $-3,242,000

    PRE-6/1 TRADE 2024

    2024 Dead Cap: $31,096,000

    2024 Cap Savings: $-3,242,000

    POST-6/1 RELEASE

    2024 Dead Cap: $8,849,000

    2025 Dead Cap: $22,247,000

    2024 Cap Savings: $19,005,000

    POST-6/1 TRADE

    2024 Dead Cap: $8,849,000

    2025 Dead Cap: $22,247,000

    2024 Cap Savings: $19,005,000

As you can see only the post June 1st options are viable. Even then, that's going to be quite the dead cap hit in 2025.

I have to say of all the Bills postseason exists, this one feels the least on McDermott.

The team was ready to play unlike against KC in the AFC Champsionship and last year against the Bengals. And i don’t recall a major coaching blunder like in the Chiefs divisional game from two years ago.

If anything, McDemott gets a pass because he was down to third string linebackers and missing a starting corner and playint safeties clearly on their last legs. Then on offense Diggs counties his disappearing act. Two beautifully placed deep balls to Sheffield and Diggs and we can’t even get one of them to haul in the catch.

I'd consider the fake punt a major coaching blunder.

Not necessarily a coaching blunder, but out defense (McD's speciality) didn't have a stop until the 4th Q. We allowed 27 points to a mediocre (this season) Chiefs offense on a night where our offense dominated TOP.

  15. There's plenty of blame to go around, but T Bass deserves a pretty big share. Not to mention he's been complete garbage since the Giants game.

He missed THREE field goals in the playoffs this year. Every other kicker in the playoffs COMBINED has 3 misses.

Unless he's dealing with an injury I think we have to move on from him this offseason (even with the deadcap).

  16. The boxscore was obviously a lot more impressive in the 13 second game,  but I agree he was actually better tonight. The passing yardage is hurt by how often we ran the ball and the multiple drops.

It gets overlooked, but we had 4 punts in the 13 second game. We only had 3 tonight (including the fake punt). No offensive turnovers in either game.

The Defense forced 2 punts and no turnovers in the 13 second game. 1 forced punt and 1 turnover tonight.

Im complaining that its called 90% of the time. That teams get 15 yards, not because they earned it, but because the defender hits him a millisecond late. Its stuff like this, which makes people question if the NFL is fixed. Im not upset with the bills at all. Its nice to finally get one in our favor. But it could very easily be switched the opposite way in an upcoming game.

The refs being consistent and calling it a penalty makes you question if the league is fixed ? You do you I guess

FWIW the roughing the passer called on Ed Oliver later in the game was 'weaker' than this one and also an easy call.

So John Wawrow was incorrect when he reported that Frazier was just taking the year off and was definitely under contract with the Bills this season?
