For example if you would be happy to Draft Dawand Jones in the second or third, you would select him for rounds 2 and 3, but not for round 1.  If you like Paris Johnson in any round, you would select him for rounds 1,2 & 3.  If you like Blake Freeland for round 3, but would not use a second round or first round pick on him, you would select him only in round 3.

Got it. There’s about a bazillion tackles that I would take in RD1, in RD2 I’m hoping for the likes of Dawand Jones or Cody Mauch.

  2. The draft just fell this way. Hopefully we add a WR in FA! 👀

$10m can address a few OFF holes and with Ed’s injury history and inconsistency he is really a $3.5m player at best. $10m is criminal to slot to Ed.

Move quickly on and take what you can get, regardless.

You want to cut Oliver? Am I hearing this right? Or are you saying that you want to trade him for a 5th?

Are you high? He’s on a one year deal, for more than market value, that can’t be negotiated without an extension.  There is no team that wants an under performing, undersized NT for that money to start with, much less give up high picks or multiple for him.   If you can get a 5th and clear the cap space, you take it.

Why do you call him a NT? Why would you trade Oliver for a 5th? Why, why, why?

Oliver is double teamed so much because he’s our best DT, he was never meant to be a nose.

I see a streaky player who is either hot or cold. Anyone with a mind can see the potential in Ed Oliver.

You my friend are all alone in your belief that he’s only worth a 5th. I don’t mean to be obtuse but your post is unseemly.

I’m still trying to win the SB in 2023-  it’s possible.  We aren’t in a full rebuild.  We’re retooling with hopes of a Lombardi in 2023.  Cutting an all pro, team captain and leader of our defense that we clearly missed last season to save some money AND create another hole in the starting lineup doesn’t send the signal we’re trying to win to the fan base or the locker room.  That would be an epic fail

I knew that this was coming because I know how emotionally attached fans can be to their favorite players. I get it. I’m looking at the situation analytically and with a cold heart.

What good is a 32 year old safety who is coming off a major neck injury? Neck injuries are no joke. He missed 15 games last year.

We could probably free up $5M-$7M if we dump him. That money could go to OL/WR. Wouldn’t you rather we sign an elite player like Isaac Seumalo or a nice weapon for Josh? That alone pushes the needle forward more than an old safety who is damaged goods at this point.

Football is a cold world, I get it.

You think that was me whining? That’s the reality of our situation. Beane has invested several day 1 and 2 draft picks on DL prospects. He’s also spent tens of millions of dollars on the DL over years.

As constructed, the ONLY player we have that can consistently get to the QB is Von and the only reason why Von is here is because we have whiffed on everyone else we’ve drafted and signed. I don’t have a problem with investing in the DL, the issue I have is the way in which we do it. Drafting a guy like Basham, who was unimpressive in college and didn’t really display any quality NFL traits, right after you draft a DE in the first is seriously questionable.

It’s ignorant to argue that money is the only resource in the NFL. You don’t consider two 3rd round picks, a 2nd round pick, and now a 5th round pick to be resources? Or are you just pretending like draft picks don’t count because it goes against your narrative? If after 5 years you don’t have a RB that can reliably carry the ball 12-15 times a game after spending all those draft picks then that’s an objective failure. To draft a RB in the 1st would be questionable at best and moronic at worst.

I’m not so sure that this is a player/personnel issue, but rather a coaching issue. FWIW, Horrible Harry had a good year in Minnesota.

  7. If anything we should be doing the same exact thing that Minnesota is doing, cutting old, over the hill kind of players.

Let’s not spend big money on their castoffs. If Buffalo wanted to spend money on a FA vet safety they would’ve just kept Poyer.

And I know this may not be a popular take but I think Buffalo should dump Micah Hyde too. I realize that I’m going to get torched for this and I mean torched but the dude is 32 coming off a neck injury, jus’ sayin’.

The problem with a trade is value.  What if he turns out to be a stud?  He has shown stretches of his career that he can be dominant.

Then again he’s shown to be rather inconsistent at times.  If you trade him it would have to at least be a 2nd rounder, if you can’t get that I’d rather just roll with him another year and hope he has a breakout season in which you could re-sign him then.

I would take a 2nd for him but I’d also be willing to take two 3rds as well, even if it meant that we get a 3rd in 2023 and a third in 2024. Buffalo is paying Josh $45M/year and if we want to put a solid roster around him, we need to do a better job accumulating picks both short term and long term. That’s the approach New England took with Tom Brady, so why not do it ourselves? It worked for them. Play the compensation game too while you’re at it.

JaMarcus Russell had the potential to be a good passer too.

The mere thought of Richardson going 1st is insanity.  The dude was average at best in college, and well below average when they played power 5 competition.  He has the potential, but who trades that haul for a guy who MAY be good, or equally could be the worst QB taken in the 1st round.

It has to be Stroud or Young, and Stroud scares me too.  He is the best pure QB in the draft but he just doesn't seem to have any fire to him at all.

Anthony Richardson is a lot like Josh Allen as far as what he can do as a runner. He’s tall, he’s well built, he’s physical, he’s a load to bring down.

Would I trade multiple first round picks to move up and get him? NO. But if I’m a team picking in the top 10, I would take him in a heartbeat.

Basically Anthony Richardson is an extremely nice project if you’re a team that is patient and willing to develop a QB. He has a big arm and if he develops as a passer he’s easily in the upper echelon of starting QBs in the NFL.

Is he JaMarcus Russell? Or is he Josh Allen? Only time will tell.

Same.  If I’m the colts, I’d take Stroud. I like young but I wouldn’t risk the franchise future on a QB his size.

Some of you guys would really take Richardson #1 overall?   I mean, I love the god given talent but I’d rather draft LeBron James and teach him how to play QB.  Richardson might be a slightly better runner

You don’t think Richardson has potential to be a good passer? I’m shocked! There’s only one way to handle this, I challenge you to a saxophone battle!

Restructures are nice to give you that instant jolt of cash. But they are one trick ponies. You must be prudent when moving forward, despite all the protestations from fans that the cap isn't real.

    The cap is real.

I will say this about Beane, instead of spending right up to the cap, he would be wise to dump/trade away players who are not in their future plans. It would bode well for him if he had multiple extra picks in the 2023 & 2024 Drafts respectively. It keeps our Super Bowl window open long term and his job safe.

Yeah you gotta believe they have their minds made up on a guy for a move like this.

I don’t know how I feel about this class outside of CJ Stroud. There’s some really nice things I like about Bryce Young but he’s just so small that I worry about how his game translates. Anthony Richardson is a really nice project, but not someone I’d feel good about spending a ton of draft capital on. And Will Levis, God bless him, I just don’t feel it.

  13. If we could get a 2nd for Gabe Davis that would be a home run. Trade Oliver too while you’re at it and don’t be picky if it’s for 2024 picks and not just 2023 picks. Time to play the draft/compensation game, it’s the only way to stay competitive long term when you have a QB making $45M/yr. Copy what New England did for all those years. Maybe we can get a 5th for McKenzie too? 🧐🤔
