WRs are ranked by yards, not by targets. Shakir WAS the #1 pass catcher on the team by that metric over the last 11 games. He bested #2 and #3 by over 300 yards each. And don't make the mistake of assuming his yards per target will stay the same as his total targets go up. His skill set lends itself to low volume high efficiency usage. Don't mess with a good thing like we did with Gabe Davis after he excelled as the WR4 in 2020.

A lot! Do you realize we currently have zero starting caliber WRs on the roster that can play outside full time? Shakir should be in the slot 75% of the time, Samuel should be at best a 50/50 split, and the other WRs on the roster aren't even worth mentioning. We have a QB who excels at throwing outside the numbers to the intermediate area of the field better than any other QB in the league, and I repeat we have zero true outside WRs on the roster.

We can't afford to screw this up. Diggs and Davis both could be planted outside. We no longer have either on the roster. So we need TWO replacements, not one. And both replacements have to be good enough to start. If we wait until the end of the 4th to find the second guy, I guess we'll have to sign OBJ or something like that just to have a functional outside passing offense. But I would rather just invest high in young players and start making up the massive under-investment we've made at that position since 2020.

Don’t forget that Beane traded our #1 WR while taking a $30M cap hit. He has a lot of skin on the line. If he doesn’t deliver, he could be in deep dog doo doo.

Trade up and get Nabers even if it means trading this years and next years 1st plus whatever the trade chart says. It gives us an amazing #1 WR and the rest of the holes on the team can be fixed easily.

Everyone talks about MHJ but Nabers is as good as any prospect that I’ve seen over the last five years, but as good as he is, I can’t justify giving up that much for him. I’d rather we stay put, trade down or trade up in the 2nd round.

Only a QB is worth that much capital.

We can quibble about the targets but the targets available aren’t going to be more than a 5% increase and I think a lot of the Diggs 160 target volume is not going to be absorbed just by two rookies. Shakir is going to likely have 45 more targets and Kincaid 20 more targets. That’s already chipping away 65 targets from Diggs.

I think the Bills will need impact from a rookie and that’s why it is imperative they draft one with their first pick. But I do doubt that the Bills fortunes are resting on a depth WR who’s at best only going to be a WR4 and get 40-50 targets if there are no major injuries and it’s probably closer to 30 targets more likely if health is not a factor.

If the Bills can find a rookie to who can have a good impact and absorb 70-80 targets efficiently then I think the Bills will be in a good spot. I think they don’t have to draft a WR at pick 60 if there isn’t a good one there or the value is much greater at another position of need.

They can find a WR at pick 128 or 133 to add depth and take on 30-40 targets.

Don’t mind me, I’m just a “bro scout” at best but wouldn’t it make sense to double down on WR at 28 and 60? This is a very nice class. What other holes do we have?

This team did find Gabe Davis in round 4 and Shakir in round 5. I know Gabe wasn’t the WR2 that the team needed him to be in 2022. But Gabe was still a productive WR.

I think that the McBeane track record on mid round selections is better than average. In rounds 4-5 from 2017 on the team has drafted 11 players the team has found Milano, Taron Johnson, Shakir, and Gabe Davis and a good role player in Neal with the jury still out on Shorter.

That’s a 40% hit rate on finding starters and a 50% hit rate on finding productive players (taking out Shorter from the calculation). And while Teller wasn’t a hit for the Bills he was a good player the Bills traded too soon.

So I think I actually value selections in the mid rounds as it seems like McBeane seems to find good players there.

Oh, absolutely. If you have a good GM like Brandon Beane you can find good players everywhere. I just think that in:

RDs 1-2 you should be getting an above average starter.

RDs 3-5 A player that may develop into a starter.

    and

RDs 6-7 STs player, backup, TC fodder.

There’s exceptions to every rule though like you said. I’m just saying that by the time you get to RDs 5-7, mostly everything has been picked over at that point.

  6. For me, I look at size, production and athletic ability via combine and pro days. Then I look at tape. I take the Bill Parcell’s approach to the Draft, but then again, I’m just a passionate fan and not a professional, but I know enough to have an opinion on some things.

You can get busts at WR in the early to mid first round, you can find pretty good guys late in the first round or even the 2nd round or 3rd round historically.  If someone presents you with a deal to move up that you can't pass up, then do it to get a higher rated guy. But I don't overpay to move up, or maybe even 'pay up' to market rate.  As others have said, you aren't totally devoid of weapons right now. Sure you'd like another one but its not sinking the team. Also, its obvious this year the team is in transition, this year, and likely next year, there is going to be a LOT of opportunity to fill spots on this roster for the next few years.  Beane has some misses drafting high, but also has made some good picks in the middle rounds. I want as many 'lottery ticket' middle round picks to see how many of those spots/holes can be filled around the entire roster.

Once you get to the 5th round and beyond it’s like finding a needle in a haystack. The top 50-64 picks are where your premium players are.

And it’s not like they have nothing at skill positions, second half of last season production came from Shakir, Kincaid and Cook.

This is where I disagree. Beane made a power play by trading Diggs away and eating up all that cap space. He better deliver the goods and not come up empty handed. The pressure is on.

    Kind of where I’m at.

I mean, this is a crazy heavy draft at WR, why take on all that money that comes with a Jefferson or Lamb? Beane already paid Diggs $30M to not be on the roster this year, I’d hate to see Beane try and sell this one to Pegula.

They can convert his salry to bonus and sign him to an extension to fit him in the cap this year. I think.

Plus you give up #28 so no cap expense for that pick. I think it would be doable with the cap savings you get next season by trading Diggs.

Why not draft two young players on the cheap? Would you rather we pay Jefferson big money or draft two “good” players with high ceilings on cost controlled contracts? We already did this same very thing with Diggs.

Allen with two of either Legette, Worthy, Franklin, Pearsall, Polk or Burton is a very scary thought.

Lets get our very own Jefferson on a rookie contract.

Trade for Justin Jefferson.  Minnesota is in full rebuild mode and a single WR won't get it done.  Give them #28 and a fourth this year, and give them back their #2 in 2025.  That should be enough.

There is one big option not listed - get a veteran (either FA or via trade) who can be considered an upgrade on Diggs, and then take a good non-diva WR in the second (who could be considered an improvement over Gabe).  This would give us an attempt at upgrading year over year- not a rebuilding year.

Veteran trade targets include high tier J Jefferson/B Aiyuk/DK Metcalf/DHop or a FA like OBJ is also possible.

Non- divas in the second could be McConkey/Coleman/Legette/Franklin types

    Thank you. Added.

i think it's  significant that the Bears are hosting Xavier Worthy on a 30 visit.  They are not taking him at 9.  And they don't pick again until 75.  You don't bring that guy in if you're not considering him.  They may have something in place with the Bills.  By the way, I am with Joe Marino.  Trading up significantly in the first for a non QB usually does not work.

Marino’s pretty good, I follow him loosely on YouTube. I tip my hat also to Cover1.

I believe OBD has a few pans but the most likely scenario would involve a WR at 28 or a trade down from 28 into top of 2nd thus picking up a 3rd Rd pick as well.  Do see OBD will pick 2 WRs one with their 1st pick  (at 28 or lower) and another later but before pick 150.

I just added this to the poll, thank you.

  15. How do you guys think Beane will handle the situation? Usually he likes to fill all of our holes in free agency so we can go BPA in the draft but at this point I think he may have to draft out of need.

Will he go up, down, stay put? What do you guys think? I think because of the Diggs trade, Beane better walk away from this draft with multiple WRs for Josh otherwise he may have egg on his face.

Less then 3 weeks to go and he cant have a friend to drive, order an uber or just not drink at all. Some of these guys are complete idiots. Cant fix dumb.

Oh, I agree but should we take him off of our board completely? If he’s there at #128 would you pass him up?

    Never. Have you?

Many times and unfortunately many people do. I am 7 years sober in May but in my mind drinking is problematic if someone one is driving 100mph under the influence or if they have a drug addiction and a dependency on alcohol but would I take him off our board completely? Hell no.

It didn't make sense when Diggs was on the team. Now it does.

I think it always made sense at least from the point of view that this is a historic draft for WR. I think it also makes sense to keep Josh happy.
