We might do a Round 1/6 double down like did with Elam/Benford but suspect the 2nd guy would be more of a return type guy aka 4th/5th roster guy.

We could do that, I’m hoping we follow the Rousseau/Basham approach. This draft is lucratively deep at wideout. I’m hoping for a Brian Thomas Jr/Xavier Legette type of approach with a few OL/bodyguards for Josh in the 4th/5th RD.

I do think they could move up for Thomas too, how far is up for debate.  My guess is the same as you, probably needs to get to 20 or later.

If we don't move up, then I think in the post Diggs era now that someone like Ladd McConkey who has that elite route running ability we are losing with Diggs becomes much more in play than before.  In fact, I have a feeling the only 2 we would look at with pick 28 is Mitchell or McConkey.  We could also move back and try and pick up say a 3rd this year and maybe still get McConkey, although I don't think he would make it past both Balt and KC personally.

I have been very high on McConkey but wasn't sure if he would be high on the Bills board with Diggs here.  But Diggs trade I think elevates his potential to us and he is my WR5 on board behind Thomas.  Followed by Mitchell as the 6 guys I think we could take in the first.  Not sold they would stay at 28 and take one of the other WR's.  Could see them trading back a little bit or taking another position and then making a move for a WR in the 2nd.

Be awesome if we could trade back a little bit and get back a 3rd and still get one of McConkey, Legette, Mitchell, etc.

Both Mitchell and McConkey are one hit wonders which scares me. I’m not saying they won’t be good but something to keep in mind.

  4. • The Bills could potentially go up to #5-#8 for MHJ or Nabers. We have the capital to do so.

    • We could potentially go up to #15 for BTJ.

    • We could stay at #28 and draft a WR there and then trade into the top of RD2 and double down on WR yet again. (Walking away with two top 40 WR prospects.)

    • We could stay at #28 and package our RD2 pick from HOU along with our RD3 next year to go back into the 1st and draft two RD1 talents.

Lots of possibilities going into the draft.

  5. Because since he’s been our GM we’ve gone 64-34 in the regular season and 5-5 in the playoffs. Not to mention we have a 7-8 year Super Bowl window largely due to the fact that he drafted Josh Allen. And he drafted Allen in a very aggressive way I might add, he swung for the fences and hit a grand slam I might add.

As I've tried to digest the hole left by Diggs' departure, I don't for a minute think that Beane is going to sit back and just do the best he can when his pick rolls around late in the first round.   That just isn't his style.

We've often seen Diggs move around in the first round, and I think we will see it again.   He's done little moves, of course, up a pick or two or three, but we've seen at least two big moves:   Cordy Glenn and picks to move up to Cinci's pick (followed by the trade with Denver to go up and get Josh), and the Bills' first round pick to get Diggs.   Two big draft-related moves to fill a hole.

It caused me to wonder what kind of things Beane could be considering now.   Others of you will have much better ideas than I, and I don't really know how to gauge value, cap, and all the other things that need to be considered, but two thoughts came to mind.

Maybe the Vikings want to make a bold move to get up to the top of the draft.   Maybe they have a vision for the future of a rebuilt roster.  Maybe they don't want to write a big check for a receiver.  Would they trade Justin Jefferson for the Bills' #1 and some other consideration?  They did it with Diggs, why not again?   Is Aiyuk still on his first contract?   Who else has a proven receiver with a contract the Bills can afford for a year?

Or, more along the Cordy Glenn line, who's the quality starter the Bills might package with their first round pick to move up to the top 10?  Does Kromer like Van Demark so much that he'd be willing to part with Dion Dawkins.   Dion and the Bills #1 for the Giants' #1?   What other players are good enough to bring interest but not so good that they're untouchable?

Whatever, we can be sure that Beane is doing some creative thinking.

I could not agree more. I think Beane at the very minimum goes up for Brian Thomas Jr.. AND I think it’s very possible that he would go up to #8-#10 for Marvin Harrison Jr. or Malik Naber. I also expect a second WR will be added at some point during the draft. You’re absolutely right, Beane will not sit still.

Forgive me in advance if this subject came up somewhere in the 116 pages of the Diggs is traded thread, but...

Let's assume the Diggs trade had to happen now...why the Texans?...Yes his production is way down, but even at 31 he's still got a lot left in the tank...and you may have handed the team that, at least on paper, seems to now be the most talent laden in the AFC.

People certainly would be up in arms if we dealt him to the Chiefs or Bengals, but the Texans may be a tougher "out" this season.

My biggest complaint in this whole matter is that Beane couldn't find a trade partner in the NFC, or a team in the AFC searching for a QB and not a threat.

Maybe other GMs around the league are wary now that Diggs has whined his way off of two teams, and weren't willing to give up a second round pick.

Diggs would have vetoed going to any team that isn’t a contender. Why did we trade him? Because he’s 31 and he didn’t want to be here.

Ever watch a QB constantly target a WR and nobody can stop it...kinda like Mahomes to Tyreek Hill or TE Travis Kelec?

Buffalo needs a WR / TE that can get open and catch the ball no matter who is covering them like the two above. Diggs was good, but he wasn't that guy. Look at his stats in the playoffs the last few seasons and he does nothing in those games. Not worth 24 million a year to disappear in the playoffs.

    From Jerry Jabber:

There’s a saying in the NFL, you’re only as good as your last game. Here’s Diggs’ stats in the last four playoff losses.

    6 rec, 77 yards, 0 TD

    3 rec, 7 yards, 0 TD

    4 rec, 35 yards, 0 TD

    3 rec, 21 yards, 0 TD

    Beane has a plan!

And Diggs is going to be 31 in November.. Realistically, how many good years does he have left?

I’m not trading the 1st Round pick in 2025 though …

That might end up a bit higher then people might be thinking if things start going off the rails

Our roster is still elite. When Josh Allen is your QB, you’re going to the playoffs. We may need some help at WR but we still have Samuel, Kincaid, Knox, Shakir, Cook and it looks like Beane is about double down on WR in the draft. I am not even remotely worried.

Take a WR at 28… and then use the Diggs pick to move up to Top 40 and take another…

This could result in McConkey and Legette

Legette is a boom or bust prospect, same goes for Mitchell. At this point I’m hoping we trade up for Brian Thomas Jr.. He’s a true #1. Add someone like Troy Franklin, Xavier Worthy, Ja’Lynn Polk, Burton or Pearsall in RD2.
