Would it resemble going into the season without a star MLB? Morris (85) flashed open off the line of scrimmage for what probably would have been 8 to 10 yards. Peterson talks a lot of smack for part of a secondary that gave up 220 yards and a TD to Diggs and Davis and should have lost in regulation.

THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - Receivers are a Dime a Dozen
Maine-iac replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall
All of this is why I really hope Claypool shows something and makes the team. He does, or should I say is capable of doing, all of that stuff and he's already signed and on the roster. -
What kind of season are you expecting from Josh Allen this year?
Maine-iac replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
I voted better. I don't think his stat line will pop compared to his usual stats. Probably similar yards and TD's. Still making plays no one else makes but I'm hoping Allen has better command this year. Less interceptions and less head scratching plays. The same level of dangerous but lower levels of foolish. -
Seeing how Allen had already hit two guys dead in the hands 20 or more yards down the field he probably felt he had a good chance of hitting another guy in the hands. I'd argue he should have hit Shakir on 3rd and 9 for what would have been probably a 7 or 8 yard gain all day. Then think about going for it. On 2nd and 9 with a guy wide open in the end zone you throw him the ball.

I mean technically you are right. His completion percentage on throws like that in that game alone probably also wasn't great but that doesn't mean Josh can't make the throw. Diggs dropped his, Sherfield dropped his, and Allen got hit on the throw to Shakir. Passing chart says he made 4 throws over 20 yards and 3 of those at a minimum had nothing to do with Josh being able to make the throw.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling meeting with the Bills (UPDATE: Signed)
Maine-iac replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
While his arm length certainly leaves some question marks about whether he's only capable of playing slot in the NFL he must be doing something right if he's top ten in separation and leading the league in catch percentage. I'm not trying to move him outside but more suggesting he's been playing with those arms his whole career it's possible he has it figured out to some extent. It might be more of a match up based problem than an every week problem if they did want to give him snaps outside. Against certain defenses stacking Shakir and Samuels might be pretty hard to defend. -
Digging around because there's so much talk about separation. A lot of decent receivers are on the far low end of the separation statistic. Hopkins, Higgins, London, Cooper, Pickens, Evans, and Ridley (just to name a few) were all on the very low end, statistically, of the charts. I think it's of note that both Kincaid and Shakir had separation over 3.5 and catch % of about 80. I'm not sure what to make of it but it leaves me feeling like separation as a statistic is not the be all end all of stats. More separation does tend to help catch percentage but there are a lot of receivers who are very productive regardless. After reading Tee Higgins draft profile the similarities are striking. Higgins had more production in college but physically they are similar. So from now until he gets on the field I'm going to tell myself Coleman might be the next Tee Higgins even if it's yet to be seen. Separation Stats Tee Higgins scouting similarities

Watched the cover1 video on MVS. I don't see the guy running past anyone. People repeatedly saying "vertical speed" but I don't see him run past anyone. He seems to do Gabe Davis things with maybe an extra step. Am I missing something? -

It's tied 7 for 7 (unless I'm counting wrong) since Allen's draft. -

Who do you think has a better year this year, Chase Claypool or OBJ? I actually don't have an answer and I'd be guessing at one anyways but it makes you think. So much potential but a head case vs possibly old and washed up. -

If we spent all those picks on offense and they didn't work out would you be asking if we keep using picks on offense? You do it until it works. -
What Bills road trips are you doing this year?
Maine-iac replied to BillsPride12's topic in The Stadium Wall
I drive to Gillette (3 hours) every year. Last year was pretty disappointing. Flew to Buffalo 2 seasons ago. All road trips for me. True story they will pay you 50 bucks to park in the delayed exit lot at Gillette. -

1st player off the board the last two years was a TE and WR no? -

We held the ball for 37 minutes and almost beat the SB champs with Klein as our starting MLB. The offense was fine without a WR1. I'm not saying we don't need guys to make plays but there's a long history of teams winning championships without Megatron playing WR for them. -

Tell me exactly what having a WR1 means and then tell me how it helped us in the playoffs so that I know the difference between last year when we had one and now that we don't. What is it that we will miss? -

We found Diggs and Davis replacements last year. We just phased out being an outside receiver focused offense. We got more production out of our TE's and RB's and slot WR than any other time since Beasley left. Running game was a force also. Most people probably can't even name the guys who started at outside WR for the Pats on any of the SB teams. Same with the Eagles that beat the Pats and give it a year or two no one will know who started at outside WR for the Chiefs the last two years either. -

Both Diggs and Gabe had a good game against Miami before the Bengals debacle. -
Percy Harvin ruined me on speedy, veteran WR's, who have potential. I hope you are right.
-
I didn't find the choice perplexing at all. The 1st read was a TD and it was there. Blocking didn't hold up. No denying Diggs was open hot but the play was drawn up to score and the throw was there.
-
Didn't say it was a given but I don't think it's above reasonable expectations to think he could produce similarly but over 17 games. I dare say it's projecting in a vacuum to say he couldn't do it.
-
Considering "last years WR 3" was our best receiver over the last 10 games I'd say we're half way there.
-
I absolutely agree but when you don't have anyone who's good at slamming up in there for 3 yards and you drop to 5 and 5 in the middle of the season the gloves come off. Pretty sure neither Dorsey or Brady were drawing up game plans where Josh was running 3rd and short 10 plus times but you have to do what you have to do. What I'm getting at is the team saying they don't want Allen running is different than having a big back and actually being able to do something other than run Allen. I haven't seen them run short yardage well with anyone other than Allen. Singletary on 3rd down against Miami running out the clock is etched in my memory and that's about it. Would love to see it happen.

I don't know Davis well enough. In short yardage Allen might be one of the best. That said there is a certain amount of abuse he takes doing it. If Davis is that good at short yardage he'd certainly be able to carve out a role. Pretty sure that's what Murray and Harris were supposed to do last season.
