Josh Allen.
I'm only kidding a little bit. The media was dunking on him after his first couple of years. Many predicted he would be a bust and they focused on his relatively poor stats to point to.
Then he had his breakout year in 2020.
For those paying attention, Josh Allen had amazing flashes all through his first couple of years, even though his stats weren't always reflective of his clear talent.
This prediction from Mel Kiper is always fun. He gets laughed out of the room for predicting Josh Allen would be the best QB in the AFC East in 5 years (after his rookie season):

There are teams better at it than others, though. It isn't just completely random.
I think it is more that there are so many factors that impact the ability of a player to succeed in the NFL, only a few of which are even in their control. A lot of it comes down to their ability, but also their fit with coaches and scheme, the play of players around them, injuries, etc.
Every player enters the league with a deck stacked against them, with boundless talent that they are asked to compete against first on their own team for a spot to play, then against others. And if they don't show an immediate ability to compete against players who all have much more experience than they do, they are quickly given up on, especially by short sighted coaches and GM's fighting for their own jobs.

Yeah, there are guys here who do full draft boards, watch film on all these guys, and do full 7 round mock drafts, etc.
I don't know where they get the time (or how they stay married), but their insight can be valuable.

I'm not THAT much of a football fan. I don't think I'll ever research 7th round prospects for any position, including running back.

6th and 7th round players are a crap shoot in any draft anyway. It's up to the scouts to find and identify those diamonds in the rough. And if they don't work out, nobody cares because they were 6th and 7th rounders.

Now people have to reason within themselves and come up with an explanation as to why they believe in Franklin. It's kind of comical actually. This isn't knocking those who truly believe in Franklin, that he could be a difference maker. This is a dig at those now trying to act like he would be perfect for this team due to nothing other than a number on a selection card.
P.S. ~ I voted to take Franklin here as well, and don't think the perceived sub-par Combine outweighs what you see from him on the game tape. But all of you know, because I have said it time and time again, Legette is my guy.

Actually, I think it is completely reasonable that he will be gone if we trade down that far. I'd rather trade down with Arizona. Legette is more likely to be there if we trade down. Trading down into the 40's is way too risky.

Dang, I sure hope if we trade down in real life that we can still get Xavier Legette. If we will miss out on him I'd rather just stay and pick him at 28.

Yeah, they usually fine the teams or remove draft picks. I've never heard of a pick swap.

Yeah, I guess I'd want to look into his claims before outright laughing at him for it. Maybe he's right. I have no idea.
That being said, Rodgers is always going on about something. He turned into a big weirdo. And I just don't think he is that great a QB anymore. He certainly doesn't seem to be focusing on football much, but it is the offseason, I suppose.

Another guy with almost no trade value. Right now he could be traded for a 6th probably.
He has more value on the team. Maybe he'll play well the next couple of years. Then he'll have trade value.

I've never liked him as a player. I thought he was talented but played outside of the scheme and caused problems. And he got injured all the time. He'd show up for a random game and look dominant only to disappear for the rest of the year, all while being horrible at stopping the run.
I was so happy we didn't re-sign him the first time and I'm happy we didn't re-sign him this off season, too.
But, I wish him the best. I actually think he could be a difference maker on a bad team like the Giants if he stays healthy and plays a little more disciplined. He was too inconsistent to rely on for us.

I'll be comfortable with them bringing in young receivers and rolling with them. Does that mean there will be growing pains? Probably. But I am comfortable with that. Draft a guy high. Draft a guy later, too, then roll with the rookies, Samuel, Shakir, and whoever else we have. Get the rookies playing time and let them work through the mistakes.
That means the position is not going to be ideal this year, but it wasn't last year either. Diggs had his huge drop off. Davis was invisible in most games. Harty and Sherfield were irrelevant. Only Shakir was consistent down the stretch, and he is still here and has another year under his belt.

Expanding the sport internationally is a good idea for many reasons. For one thing, it could open up the talent pool if more athletes worldwide become interested in pursuing football instead of other sports.
The NBA benefits greatly from having an international pull for talent. So does the NHL. Even MLB.
