I said Franklin solely because the Bills have done a lot of homework on him and I think he's got a ton of upside without the diabetes or character concerns of Mitchell.

I wouldn't hate Ladd McConkey either.

I agree with this, but I think I'm about even with McConkey or Franklin. Either will work for me.

Heck, even if they take Mitchell, you love the upside. And that would mean they think they can manage the character and health concerns that come with him.

I understand there's more to a prospect's profile than college production, and I understand that McConkey was in a crowded receiver room, but...

Taking a look at the numbers McConkey posted at Georgia certainly doesn't inspire much confidence that he can be an NFL WR1.

Maybe some big McConkey fan here can explain to me what's so special about him.

Production is one factor. Ideally you look at their traits and skills, though. McConkey seems like a good, do everything receiver who can line up inside or outside. He is fast (4.39 40). Great RAS score of 9.40 out of 10 (I think this includes his pro day agility tests since he didn't do that at the combine?). He is smart and a good route runner. Good hands.

I think his lack of production was do to some injuries, and he isn't big or strong, so that's a knock on him.

  3. Hoping for Ladd McConkey now, or Troy Franklin. I got too attached to the idea of Xavier Legette. I'll be following him to see what he actually does in the NFL, especially since it surprised me how so many people were down on him. He looked pretty good to me.

I'm sure he would have rather come to the Bills than the Panthers, though...

    Nice Work, excellent thread.

Nobody is worried worthy turns into a poor man's Tyreek?  I mean all he has to to is not be Kadarius Toney and he should thrive with MaHomes.

Toney isn't the only failed receiver there. They've struggled to fill the position for a long time now. Mecole Hardman. Skyy Moore. They haven't really had a hit at receiver since Tyreek Hill, who they lucked into in the 5th round in 2016. Rice looks fine, I guess. We'll see how he develops.

People also thought Reid was going to get a ton of production out of Kadarius Toney. You just never know.

Or Hardman who had 4.3 speed but never amounted to much in KC.

I feel like speed is one of the less important attributes for a receiver. You just need to be fast enough. Then, all the other attributes take precedence, like release, separation, route running, and hands.

All well and good but, now I am feeling like Cooper DeJean is about to be the pick at 33. Then I think they go WR by trading up from #60.  Depending on who is available they may also grab another WR in 3 or 4.

Personally I think Worthy will be a bust as he is too small to take NFL hits.

All of that sounds good to me.

A fair point. But his speed is special. And if you prepared to leverage it schematically, it can have a huge effect on the rest of your offense. That’s my projection anyway, and I’m gonna be watching to see if that’s how it actually plays out.

Same with John Ross, but he never amounted to anything in the NFL. Speed is not everything. And to weigh only 165 lbs is a big obstacle to overcome.

How do you trade with KC?  The team that kicked your ass every year.  What a moron.

This type of emotional response shows why being a fan clouds your judgement. Luckily, Beane is not a fan of the Bills. He is a professional who can look past petty rivalries and focus on what is good for the Bills and what is not.

What are you talking about? We literally went through this when the bills wanted mcduffie and ended up with Elam a few years back. That move cost us and this one will too. Bills are playing checkers, while the chiefs play chess.

There is no evidence at all that the Bills ever wanted McDuffie. Maybe they should have wanted him. But they already had a slot corner. Why would they want two?

  10. Beane, from his presser, could not have cared less about doing a deal with the Chiefs. Bills fans are extremely insecure when it comes to them. Beane obviously is not. He is a professional. He said he was on the phone with 6 or 7 teams and he liked the Chief's offer the most. So he took it. Simple as that.

And do you think that the Chiefs ONLY called the Bills? They could have done the deal at 29 or 30. Or waited and picked Worthy at 32. There was no way to prevent the Chiefs getting who they wanted, just as there is no way for the Chiefs to prevent the Bills from getting who they want.

Worthy would have been a great add with Allen, do you disagree?

I disagree. I don't want a 165 lbs receiver. And the Bills obviously didn't either. And it is clear they didn't have a 1st round grade on Worthy.

Speed kills and scheming to a players skill set is key IMO. Reid knows what to do with speed and he also knows Tyrek Hill as good or better then anyone,

    No?

Worthy isn't Tyreek Hill. Worthy is 20 pounds lighter than Hill. Hill is also a top 2 or 3 WR in the entire NFL, who has way more to his game than just speed. Expecting Worthy to come in and be what Hill is is a little ridiculous. Worthy has just as much of a chance of being John Ross.

Worthy might be a good player. I don't know. But if he is, it isn't because Andy Reid is a WR guru, which is what some people are seeming to claim. The Chiefs have struggled to develop receivers for years now.

  12. They traded down for two reasons, I think. 1) Beane wanted to get a 3rd round pick, and 2) Beane had no more 1st round grades on players, which means he didn't care if Worthy, Legette, or Pearsall were on the board. He didn't see the value.

And it sounds like he didn't want to spend the assets to trade up. He said that he had no intention of trading up, and he usually shoots pretty straight. There's no reason to believe he lied about that.

You can't teach the kind of speed Worthy has, but you can turn him into a better route runner and thats exactly what Andy Reid will do with Worthy IMO, unfortunately...

Again, what evidence do you have of Reid developing great receivers? They've struggled at the position for awhile and overcome that with a strong running game, good defense, and Pat Mahomes being Pat Mahomes.

Worthy could be good, but I don't think it's because Andy Reid has some great track record of developing receivers. Reid has great schemes and play calls, though. That is where he excels.

  14. Hoping for McConkey now. Heck, even AD Mitchell, who I have not been excited about, but he does have upside and measurables. If the Bills can keep him motivated and get consistent effort from him, he could be very good. And he has great hands.

    5 minutes ago, Figster said:

Yet Andy Reid and company liked Worthy good enough to trade up with Buffalo and get him. Beef Worthy up just a little and he's a Hill clone. So go figure.

Myself personally, Allens lower trajectory laser shots beg for bigger targets like 2nd year TE Kincaid gearing up for a breakout 2024 season.

    We hope...

The Chiefs have struggled for years picking receivers. It's safe to say they kind of suck at it. Even when they had Tyreek Hill (who they lucked into in the 5th round), they struggled to find a receiver opposite him.

So, why are we putting stock in their receiver picks?
