They put a bunch of band-aids on the offense.  They've got $80million in cap money next year.  This is the NFL, you can't mask lack of talent with any scheme.

I love this built-in excuse of the $80 million in cap money next year. Do you know how many teams have a lot of cap space for next year? This has the potential of a roll-over excuse for McBeane next year too if they don't end up spending much of that.

The truth is...we have less young talent than we should in year 2 of what a successful rebuild would. We shouldn't have this many band-aids on offense in year 2. We basically still need to put together an entire offense with skill players and at least 3 positions on the offensive line. It's downright scary how much work there is to do on that side of the ball.

  2. It's amazing how things don't change here. He basically is a Jauron replica and the same people who liked DJ are the same people who are defending him now, and for the same reasons.

Jauron's teams were the kings of the moral victory. I remember in those first 2 years how much praise he got from certain people about how the team "stays in" games.

It's the same ultra-conservative offense with a bend but don't break defense that allows the team to stay within striking distance...but it's not going to get you a lot of wins. The problem is, these types of coaches are content with that.

D looks good because the opponents are taking it safe knowing it’s a gimme win if they don’t fumble the ball away on their five yard line

This is unfortunately the truth. The D is solid but it's not great. Our offense is so bad that it can basically let a good team just cruise and play not to lose.

He'd make a good O.C. for us next year.

I don't see how he survives this season if he doesn't win a SB. Wasting another one of Aaron Rodgers prime years with bad coaching and stupid decisions.

I want nothing to do with that guy. He could only win 1 SB in 13 years while having HOF QB's...one of which is arguably the best of his era, and had him during his entire prime.

Oh yes!  I can't wait until McBeane signs Devin Funchess to a 5 year $70 million dollar deal.

    I can hardly contain myself.

You won't be able to question it because they know Funchess better than you do. He's going to take on double teams to let everyone else run around free. Even when the film won't back that up...he still does, you just can't see it.

Can you “convert” this into an actual football insight? You’ve done your best on this and other threads, to turn this into some kind of a debate about spirituality and knocking any player for it, yet seemingly miss that each Bills’ player or coach, just like everyone else here, make personal decisions about faith, none of which  has anything whatsoever to do with their roster role or football acumen/ability. Although, isn’t it ironic that a Christian like Drew Brees plays at a high level for the “Saints?” That smells like a conspiracy to me for which Loomis and Payton should be fired—by your logic. C’mon man, I know you’re better than this kind of intellectually vacant posting. Can we talk ball ? now?

How do you know that it has nothing to do with their roster role? You mentioned you've seen my other posts...I believe this is the only one I made where I didn't include the reasons for why I think this could be a possibility. I disagreed with the specific thread I made on it being closed...but I think you had commented on that one...I did list the reasons behind my suspicions there. I asked about what football reason there possibly could be for Peterman still being here, and I think that's completely legitimate. Whether it's talent, arm strength, intangibles, vision...I'd love to hear about what he has that's on the NFL level. But even in that thread, you just shot the notion of this possibility down and told me to talk football...even though you didn't do that yourself.

If Drew Brees was as horrific at what he does as Peterman is...I would understand some sort of logic to bringing him up.

Much crazier things have happened because of religion than this. Peterman has been completely outspoken about it and we definitely know where McDermott is on it. Pegula himself mentioned McDermott being a man of faith being a plus, which already shows some kind of bias for a football coach where there shouldn't be, it's completely irrelevant to his job.

I think there are logical reasons to have this belief...and it makes more sense than saying otherwise without any other reason besides "just because".

I was watching  channel 2 news this morning and Adam Benini and Vic Carrucci were saying that with the way this team is playing that McDermott JUST HAS TO BE on the hot seat. Then they bemoan how bad they played against the Colts and it's just unacceptable for the defense to give up all those points to the 1-5 colts.

Maybe they forgot how critical turnovers are (from the offense) to getting blown out. Guess they forgot how we demolished the Vikings at home and that a superior team can get their butts handed to them by a lesser team.

What I find sad is these clowns can't see the long game that is going on here and that this offseason is going to be used to finish most of the rebuild that is taking place.

    McDermott is going nowhere.

    So many things wrong here...

First off, this whole (from the offense) thing, I've seen this many times now from people defending McDermott. He does not get any kind of pass for anything the offense does. It's HIS offense! He's the head coach. If his responsibility was only going to be defense, he should be a defensive coordinator somewhere. The coordinators are an extension of the head coach. It's McDermott's offense that's putrid and can't even run simple NFL concepts. And even if he's really not involved in the offense, being the head coach gives him the responsibility of choosing the right offensive coordinator...and he's 0-2 already.

And we're not even close to being in a position where we're one offseason away from finishing "most" of the rebuild. This team has a million deficiencies and holes. These guys had an entire offseason and half of this whole season to figure out even a half-decent plan for the most important position in sports, and a way to protect their biggest investment thus far. And they've gone beyond failing miserably. It's a really bad harbinger of what could come.

The only supporting argument I keep hearing for McDermott is that we're in a rebuild. Being in a rebuild should not guarantee anyone any kind of time. There are still ways to evaluate coaches and GM's besides the record to ensure that the right people are in place to continue the rebuild and bring the team to a championship level.

You guys can cry all you want about needing to change the  Culture and a new Process but it is the talent that wins games.

The big bad talented Pats are awaiting next, with  Tom Brady's new bad boy play thing Josh Gordon's 100 receiving yards

yesterday. I guess Gordon was not good enough for a try out with the Bills because he didn't fit the culture.

Yeah, but can those guys recite Psalm 91 off the top of their head like Peterman can?

  9. The next 2-3 years? For most successful regimes, a rebuild doesn't take a total of possibly 5 years in the NFL. 3 years total is usually the standard in seeing how far the organization as a whole has come. We're definitely not going to be there next year...if these two are lucky to see a year after that it better be something big.

Bet ya weren't saying that last December 31.

I had my qualms about McDermott last year as well, most notably with how incredibly conservative he is and the lack of imagination from our offense. I even said that although I enjoyed the moment...I thought last year's team was mediocre at best and that making the playoffs was a little flukey.

And guess what...the Bills agreed! That's why they stayed on the path of rebuilding, which I'm fine with and still agree with. I don't see the point of mediocrity. But it is possible to fail at rebuilding. I said from the beginning that I didn't even care about the record this year, and I still don't. I just wanted to see organizational progress. To see us going in the right direction. For example, I don't know if you follow basketball or not, but even though the Knicks are 1-3 I love what they're doing so far. They're competitive, they fight back, and you can tell the coaching even from just 1 offseason had a real plan with this group and it's paying off.

These games, even in a rebuild year, are precious for developmental reasons. We're throwing them away because of what Beane and McDermott have done, especially with the QB position. These guys thought, even after what Peterman did last year...that this guy was an answer as a starter! So much so that they let a possible competent backup go with no other safety net. And while knowing that they really didn't want to start Allen yet. And even after that, they had full faith in him as a primary backup, so they didn't bring anyone else in for weeks. And now they're so petrified of him that they brought in Derek Anderson off the street and started him, clearly before he had enough preparation time. And he's still here! There's still nobody else!

The Bills philosophy on last year's team should be the exact same philosophy they apply to evaluating this coaching staff. They are not championship caliber, not even close. There's no point in being mediocre at best.

Honestly this is more about Andy Reid a competent play caller than it is about Mahomes. If you flip flopped Allen and Mahomes my guess is there would be similar results.

While coaching is a big deal...there is zero evidence of this. I'm not sure you've seen either Mahomes or Allen play much if you really think that. Mahomes makes some incredible throws from even the toughest angles. I'm really not even saying that so much as a knock on Allen rather than I think you're downplaying just how good Mahomes has been.

I understand that KC has a lot of weapons...but Mahomes is legit. He pretty much has everything you'd want from a QB.

We would basically be giving up on the season with this trade. I would do it for McCoy, he is not able to get quality touches in this offense.

It depends on what you mean by that. We're not going to win anything this season, we already know that. It's a development year. I think it all depends on how much they view McCoy as being a contributor to that development.

  13. I can see both sides on this one.

From purely a business plan perspective, it makes sense to trade him since we're really building for 2 years from now, when McCoy likely won't be here or be at his best anymore anyway.

However...we're so strapped on weapons that it could make QB1's development even tougher. If the plan is to keep playing him the rest of this season and the return is going to be a 3rd round pick or lower, it might make sense to keep him .
