Josh Reed is UFA after 2005 Sam Aiken is RFA after 2005 WR may be more a need than we think. We need a steady, productive #3 WR. I would like to see David Patten here to fill that role. Howeve, if a WR the Bills ranked as a #1 pick falls to our pick in rd 2, you take him. Do not pass up quality players. Bills used this strategy in 2003 and we got some guy named McGahee I would love to see Reggie Brown (Georgia) find his way here

If you look at the old numbers, Moulds was scheduled to make $6.6 million in actual money in his pocket. The $2 million amortization is from his original $12 million signing bonus he got in 2001. The Pro Bowl counts on the cap but he would need to make next yrs PB to get that $175,000. The new deal maintained "present value" because, if the Buffalo News numbers are correct , then he will get $6.5 million in actual money in 2005. Without salary info for 2006 & 2007, difficult to say whether he took a paycut overall.

The actually savings were a little more than $3.6 million old deal: 2005: $5.5 million salary, $2 million amortization, $1 million reporting/roster, $100,000 workout bonus, $175,000 LTBE Pro Bowl bonus Cap hit: $8.775 million new deal: 2005: $1.5 million salary, $2 million old amort. , $1,666,666 new amort Cap hit: $5,166,666 $8,775,000 - $5,166,666 = $3,609,334 Until salaries for 2006 & 2007 are known, don't know what the cap savings in 2006 will be, but his cap number WAS $9.189 million and will likely be much less

His cap number in 2006 before restructuring was over $9 million....I would like to see a breakdown to see how much is saved on 2006 as well. No way TD added to his cap hit in 2006.

Or you can look at the link in my sig Miami's cap problems are overstated. Don't just look at the number. It's important to look at how a team can become cap compliant to really see if a team is in cap jail or hell, etc. I really think Seattle is in worse shape because of all the top FAs that have even though they are way under the cap. With respect to Miami, they have a full off-season roster (top 51 rule). If the $17 million over is true, they can make 4 moves and they are nearly cap compliant: release QB Fiedler, WR Boston, LB Seau, and convert Chambers' $5 million roster bonus to signing bonus. Those moves together save approx. $17 million. Surtain trade would save about $5.5 million. I agree. The one thing that TD has not done, not that he's really needed to anyhow, is do "simple restructures" to create cap space. He's used that method only once and that was with Jay Riemersma back in the 2001 off-season cap purge. John Butler, may he rest in peace, used that method almost exclusively to find cap space and it led to the aforementioned cap purge For those who do not know: "simple restructure" is conversion of salary to signing bonus for the ability to spread out the cap hit over the remaining yrs of a players contract. I'll use Spikes as an example. He has a $3.5 million salary for 2005 with 4 yrs remaining. His minimum salary is $665,000 for the number of yrs he's been in the league. Bills convert $2.835 million of the salary to signing bonus and then they can spread that over the remaining 4 yrs of his deal at $708,875/yr. If you take $3.5 million - $665,000 - $708,875 = $2,126,125 cap savings in 2005. However, using this, $708,875 has been added to each yr (2006-2008) and that cannot be changed. That's why teams are getting wise and are slowly shying away from simple restructures

He's got all the tools to be a very good LT This may be why TD is insisting on a 2nd rd pick for Henry. It will give us more ammo to make the move to get a player like Barnes.

Obviously trading down would be my first choice, but if forced to use the pick.........LB Derrick Johnson from Texas.

1) They fail to mention cap adjustments which will likely eat up some of the Bills cap space 2) McGahee and M. Williams may have salary escalators
