See Post #19 I base all of my numbers on this post by itsandthings at BZ (he was obviously someone who had inside info but has not posted since July 2003) He provided a detailed breakdown of Mike Williams' rookie deal (and Takeo Spikes) and it's been right on. As you can see from the date, it's from 2002, shortly after he signed his deal. Mike Williams at NFLPA Self explanatory Further confirmation This is USAToday's contract database. 2004 season will not be updated until later this year, but this link takes you directly to Mike Williams. Compare the numbers from the post at BZ to the numbers at USAToday Yes, MW earned a $550,000 NLTBE in 2003 and that IS in the post in the first link If this is not good enough for some of y'all (I've been watching the race ) , I do not know what would.

Mike Williams to move to LT?

I do not do propaganda. I do my best to accurately portray the cap situation. Why do people mischaracterize the cap position as bad when $7.4 million is not bad? Bills can create all the cap space they want and can pursue any player they want. It's a matter of re-working 1 or 2 deals (Mike Williams' being one of them) and releasing/trading a couple of players (Prioleau/Henry). Those moves alone can open up millions on the cap. A Henry for Shelton trade will likely be cap neutral. Why? Bills would probably do simple restructure on Shelton's 2005 salary of $3 million. Shelton's cap hit and Henry cap savings would then be nearly a complete wash. -

And if TD re-works more players to create cap space, then maybe some people will believe me -

Mike Williams and Nate Clements salary escalators which increased their combined salaries by $5,233,125 -
My cap analysis article is finished. You can link to it in my sig

Again, the $14.8 million under number that some have was BEFORE NFLPA had changed the salaries on their website after these players achieved their escalators. The increase in salaries have taken slightly more than $5 million off everyone's numbers but some HAVE updated their cap pages and others have not. No indictment on those who haven't...I was fortunate to have the time to make the changes. If you go to the sticky threads at the top (Salary cap status of all 32 teams), I mentioned Mike Williams' escalator back in January.

Any one think we'll go for another WR

Jennings can only be tagged at a OT

Check the cap page.......look under cap savings before 6/1 column

I gotta work at 11pm....I'll be back then Before I go, by no means I'm I saying the Bills are in bad cap shape. They ARE in good shape and have many ways to find cap space for 2005 without adversely affecting future cap years. What truly bothers me is the lack of accuracy in the local media. I guess that's what happens in a 1 newspaper/1 sports radio station town. Thank goodness for the web

I wouldn't give up Mike Williams. He was the 4th overall pick in 2002 and with that comes a contract like this. The deal was designed this way to force a re-working of the deal.

You're welcome.... I couldn't do some of what I do without some "insider" assistance. Unfortunately, the guy who gave me the Williams' no longer posts at BZ

http://www.billszone.com/fanzone/showthrea...lliams+contract Post #19 These numbers have been very accurate http://asp.usatoday.com/sports/football/nf...spx?player=2514 also confirms some of these numbers

I imagine it's due March 2nd but I do not have definitive info on that

My cap analysis article at BZ will be ready this weekend.....it covers Mike Williams' situation extensively....I will post a link when it's posted I cannot imagine the Bills releasing Teague Wire release saves little cap space and Reese is an UFA Henry trade saves $1.02 million
-
The Bills still have many options to create cap space. Trade Henry, release Prioleau, the unadjusted cap could be higher than $86 million, restructure or extend contracts, etc I'm sure TD is working dilligently on finding additional cap space

Cap page now updated.....use link in my sig

My numbers include Drew's release

Bills do not know what the rookie pool will be until after the draft and do not need to because... rookie draft choices do not count on the cap officially until they are signed. A team only need to keep enough cap space open come draft day if they have fewer than 51 players under contract. Bills have over 60 players signed This is related to the top 51 rule where during the off-season, teams salary caps are determined by the top 51 cap charges plus any bonuses for those players not within the top 51. Since rookies usually receive the minimum salaries, they are not part of the top 51. Thus, teams do not need to have any cap space heading into the draft unless they have fewer than 51 players under contract. If a team, for example, had only 45 players under contract heading into the draft. They would need to have cap space available for 6 draft choices at the minimum salary (6 x $230,000) = $1.38 million. If they had only $690,000....they could only draft 3 players and sign NO rookie FAs until more cap space was found This happened only once I believe....49ers only had enough cap space for 3 players 1997

Since those numbers($12-14 million) were reported, 2 salary escalators have been posted to NFLPA website. Mike Williams' salary jumped from $726,875 to $4 million Nate Clements' salary jumped from $540,000 to $2.5 million Together, that adds up to $5,233,125 off the available cap space My cap page is being updated some time today......I will have the Bills $7,418,595 under before tenders to RFA and EFA, official salary cap number. and cap adjustment
