Could be a numbers thing and expectations of that, in Ray Davis' case, position. His , was the most egregious to me. He just needed to wrap uplooked like he went for the knockout shoulder. That is on coaching for me, the player needs to know you have to get the man down in that case, especially if you're a rookie offensive player. You're not trying to be a hero, just do your job.
Now this i can agree with. Davis is small and expendable, why he is one special teams buyt the knockout shoulder i think is an example of poor coaching. Davis is on offense and likely doesn't have nearly the skill or coaching of tackling, certaijly at the NFL level.
Lets see if he is on more covering of kickoff returns in the future.

Then whos faults thats?.
Why does it have to be someone's "fault"?
Is this some psychological need to blame someone? You want to pillory them and fire them, will that make you feel better? Do people realize unforeseen things happen? It doesn't have to be anyone's fault. There is a large element of luck involved.
This is exactly why there is the constant "need" to find a scapegoat.

But who put them in this salary cap situation without a Super Bowl appearance to begin with? Consistency in underachieving isn’t great.
Then go back to hiring and firing the HC and GM every three years if you dont get a Lombardi.. Let Buffalo slip back into a disaster of a franchise no one want to play for unless they are overpaid (Marrio Willaims) or are drafted here.

I find it hard to believe that no coaches have talked to these players on how to tackle.
It's a fundamental part of football and these guys have been doing it since peewee.
Players have to take the brunt of the responsibility on errors like this.
yeah, I have to agree with this. Lets be realistic.
Franchise went "all in" with the Von Miller and other free agents, no one was whining about that when it happened but when it fails, head must roll. To wih a championship a la the Rams from a few years ago, it was worth the shot. Frankly if we get out of this with only one
"bad" year, that is a masterful job of GM/HC or lucky.

Mixon has a good game but Josh had more rushing TDs than Mixon, more passing TDs, more total yards, and single-handedly won a tough game.
Josh should have won.
But congrats to Groot! His fumble was the killer, just like last year, all his turnovers negated any shot at MVP. As far as Mixon, he got 10 first downs on Sunday, impressive for a RB, he had a great game.

We’ll see how the season plays out. They should go if the roster looks weak outside of Josh, and we lose in the Divisional Round again. I am not giving McD a lifetime pass for going 9-7 in 2017 or Beane for picking Josh. We see how Josh plays; he isn’t going to play into his late 30s, so we need to win now. I’m hoping we win the Super Bowl and everyone keeps their job.
Consistency in ownership, GM and HC is an ideal to build a longstanding winning NFL team. Fortunately the Pegulas have more patience than the fan base. Beane/McD are and shouldn't go anywhere unless this a teams turns into a disaster. This year is a reset year after fixing the salary cap.

That was a part of it. But there was also terrible tackle attempts and guys not staying in their lanes and blown assignments. Undisciplined play led to that return. And that's a problem we have seen on ST for years now.
Correct, not staying in their lanes has been happening for years on the bills starting with the "Music City Miracle".

That and three people completely whiffing on what should have been a tackle.
Gilliam, Davis, and Elam.
Davis is a new rookie, use that excuse, Elam and Gilliam, honestly there are no excuses, now both veterans. If they cant tackle shouldn't be on special teams.

There were 2 -
1 was #99 I believe on the outside - very minor but as he is crashing down the Cardinal player is pushing him in the back with one hand. Again that is minor.
#2 is pretty egregious- Bills # 30 something right in the hole. He is going to be double teamed by Cards #3 (2nd deep man) and #44. The Bills guy is past #44 at the 30 and is breaking down near the 25 - he looks to be sandwiched by the 2 Cardinals players, but fights through. #3 looks to whiff and as the Bills player reaches out at the 25 - you can clearly see #44 driving him from behind. #44 never gets him from the front or side everything is him pushing from behind and that opens the gap to run through.
Even with that - the Bills are still in pretty good shape - 95, 5, and 41 are all converging on the runner right in the hole. Both Gilliam and Elam have him in their arms at the 35, but fail to make the tackle. An outside DB also has him lined up as they are making the tackle near the 37 and ducks and ends up giving him the O’le - allowing the TD.
It was bad tackling, but a block in the back also.
i am pretty sure Davis #21 the RB rookie should have made a tackle.

Each is entitled to their opinion but the Bills did not turn in an “A” performance. Keep in mind they only won by 6 and there was a chance for th Cards to win on some last minute heroics. I am happy for the win and the chance to move on.
Overall, the Bills at best played a B- game. Let’s be real, they really did not look that good.
Keep in mind, he only graded the Offenses and when you score as many points as we did in the NFL, that usually gets you an A or close to it.
Now the defense score and special teams, oh boy. Only the D Line gets an above average grade imo.

Yeah, Allens fumble was a bad play, but his overall play for the game was MVP level. He had full command of the offense at all times. I did not ding him much at all on the fumble because he only played like 4 minutes all preseason with this group. It felt like he needed a minute to just get more comfortable and given how well he played after I more brushed it off.
BUT...rethinking my grade, I could also ding him a bit for how careless he was carrying the football on his runs. He didn't fumble again because of it, but it was dangerous and hope he starts holding the ball a little more secure rather than palming it so much on runs where he is taking contact.
And on the WR's, I can only grade them on the job they did. They did their jobs quite well. They only had 23 pass attempts, and only 2 before the final drive of the first half. Can't ding them because we didn't throw more and instead had 33 carries. When we threw, they were executing and doing their jobs. And when we ran, they were all over blocking helping spring Cook, Davis, and Allen on those carries.
I don't love that Taron is out Thursday. But, Miami was a mess in the trenches Sunday, so we have proven to limit Tua and that offense by being able to disrupt Tua. And the way our group played this week, I think Groot is gonna eat again this week and we will keep Tua uncomfortable and limit their offense.
Hope you are right on us getting to Tua but you have to give the little guy credit, he has super fast receivers that get open quick and he has a very fast to get rid of the ball, a la tom Brady. He doesnt need a howitzer like Allen, just deliver it quickly and on target.

Maybe the refs could actually enforce the rules and call the block in the back clearly visible on replay that sprung the return. Nah, that's too much to ask from officials who cannot even understand that we didn't touch Murray so there should have been no flag.
Who was blocked in the back, I will watch it again.

Disagree about WRs. I’m really starting to love that WR room. I may start a thread on it.But an A+? That is spectacular territory. Cant get any higher than that, it wawn't like they had incredible "you got mossed" catches. I would give them B+/A- which is still pretty high, above average.

Great Job Alphadawg but it seems a lot of grade inflation has seeped into here. The one I won't quibble about is Josh Allen, he was MVP caliber after that careless fumble. A+ for the receivers seems stupid high and I would like to see more throws high and outside to Coleman, he is exactly as advertised on contested catches. TEs maybe a B-.
As far as Torrence, it seems he had in incredible rookies season and since then he has been spotty, he deserves a very low grade for Sunday. The entire secondary and LBers seem out of sync, we got lucky at the end with a dropped pass easily could have lost the game. Which on a very short travel week, if Miami exploits the secondary for massive gains I wont be shocked.

Up until the game yesterday, I was adamantly against the new kickoff rules. I thought the "landing zone" was contrived and severely limits if not eliminates any onside kick. Watching the new kickoff was dreadfully boring/confusing during pre-season, but yesterday changed my mind.
Kickoffs are still exciting. Granted we probably had the two longest returns to date under the new system but now if is a play I will watch and not assume it will be kicked out of the end zone. Too many NFL kickers are just too good and consistent getting touch backs.
The returns and coverage will continue top evolve all year. I thought the pickup of Brandon Codington was bizarre but his one return was electric and he has already been justified imo.
So we can partially eliminate the whining about McD/Beane getting players that are good on special teams.
I will actually watch kickoffs more closely now. It will be interesting to see how many long returns or TDs we get in the NFL this year.

This is what we are going to need out of him this year. He's going to have a rough go of it at times until he learns how to get off of press consistently. He's obviously not going to run by or run away from anyone, so he needs to impact the game in other ways and making a tightly contested catch in a big moment for a big play is how he can help us until he learns the nuances of the game.
Instead of Josh Allen risking injury bulldozing or hurdling into the end zone, we should direct high contested throws to Coleman, that should be a signature play for use with his height, wingspan and physicality.

One other thing that bothers me about Brady: Every time we have second and short, he calls a running play to try to pick up the first down instead of dialing up play action or some other throw down the field, as if he's terrified of facing a third and one. It makes zero sense, especially when you have Josh Allen, who can covert third and short (or fourth and short, for that matter) in his sleep.
I will have to watch that is in fact he does do that it is losing predictable football at its worst.

Thanks Virgil, you do a great job on this.
One comment, you mentioned he threw it at someone feet, when I saw that particular play i think he was more or less just throwing it away, He he very very few balls which were simply poorly thrown.
Totally agree on the J Allen MVP, I though he played an extraordinary game, especially in the second half when he, more or less, appeared to not be denied a victory, especially with those TD runs and a few key first down runs.

Interesting, I never head anything about Bill O Brien dumbing the the playbook for Watson, I can certainly see it but never heard it once living in Houston.
