Rex Ryan said as much that whether you can run the ball or not makes no difference in terms of the success of play action because it causes a split second hesitation for the players to locate the ball and then they have to make a decision on what to do.  That hesitation is going to happen no matter what and that is enough time for the offense to create separation or give Allen a little extra time to attack deep.

Yeah I hate to give credit to the old Blowhard but I heard him and he is right.

Josh under center with lay action is hard to beat,

We were saying it in the stands right from the jump...Bills looked bigger, stronger and more physical.  Can't remember the last time I really felt that way about a Bills team.  That Knox play defined it.

Know did the same thing versus Cincinnati his rookie year.  The Bills were off and Know rolled over 2 defenders and that got the Bills entire team energigzed and we went on to win.  It won Brandt's "angry run" sequence.

Context: For those who don't know, PFF grading is not on a typical 0 to 100 scale like you are used to. With PFF grades, a 60 is "average".

    Coaching

    - Sometimes change is good. Even when you have a good coach (Frazier), sometimes changing to a different coach is what you need...

    Offense/Defense

    - The Bills starting defense has allowed points on only 9 drives this year. That's 4th in the NFL.

    - The Bills offense has scored on 57% of their possessions. Which is #1 in the NFL.

    - The Bills defense has forced a turnover on 26% of opponents drives. Think about that.

    Individual Players

    - DaQuan Jones was, by far, the highest graded Bills defensive player yesterday.

    - After 4 weeks, the Bills have the highest graded Pass Blocking o-line in the NFL.

    - Off-topic (sorry), but how teams allowed Jalen Carter to fall to Philly is beyond me. The guy is an absolute menace. Instant superstar. 21 pressures in only 4 games, Tied for first place, and T-2nd in DPR.

    - I thought the stiff-arm "get off me" throw of the defender by Knox in the 1st or 2nd quarter was a real tone setter. Perhaps demoralized the Dolphins defense a bit.

    - Cook is better, and significantly more versatile, than Singletary ever was.

    - Floyd was the most underrated signing of the entire NFL offseason.

    - Josh Allen is the only QB in the NFL to have an 80+ PFF Grade in 3 games this season.

I was nervous of no Frazier but the D look's so much better imo.

Agreed about the Floyd signing, have to give Von Miller credit for that,  And the Knox Stiff arm, reminded me of the Knox stiff arms/violent run versus the Bengals a few years ago.  That play energized a lethargic Bills team the responded by taking the lead and winning the game.

Jalen Carter falling, that was inevitable due to the car crash.

Agree with you on Cook vs Singletary but I have watched Singletary on the Texans and his is having success.

No. It was Cam Lewis. The only reason my wife knows who he is the fact that I cursed that name for hours after that game.

So many ways the Bills self destructed against the Vikings last year, so many.

No, it was Cam Lewis. He beat himself up about it after the game, said all the right things “I’m not a selfish player.” Also said he cried about it. Still can’t understand why he didn’t volleyball spike it with one hand rather than try to pick it off.

He will have to relive that play for years, it is a TV replay favorite.  one of the greatest "steals" off all time by a WR from a defender.

Its time for Elam to get handsy with the cheetah. I bet he sees some action this week.

    I agree.

He really is handsy.  I thought he would have a breakout season this year, disappointed so far.

Guess we find out if keeping Hamlin was a PR move or he is the next best option.

I’m still not ready to forgive Cam Lewis for the Minnesota game.

Yep, I have to watch that play ad nauseam when they talk about Justine Jefferson and incredible catches.  We will be watching that play for years.

Except under the new rule if they call for a fair catch they get the ball at the 25.. aka same result

i know, i hate the new rule.

I will give credit to Belichek, he had his kickers able to frequently kick it high and land about the 5, more often than not the returner never go it to the 20 or 25.  Now that strategy/gamesmenship in football is gone.

Last week's game featured a bunch of weird officiating decisions like this.  The phantom tripping call on Kincaid, the missed fumble recovery, the call for defensive holding on a play where the RB ran directly into the pile, and so on.  Each of those was NBD as an isolated one-off, but it felt like literally every contestable call went Washington's way for the entire freaking game.

I can see that White rolled out of the end zone, but the interception obviously occurred in the EZ and White is obviously giving himself up.  We all see plays like that all the time, and probably 90% of them are ruled as touchbacks.

I was listening to the Washington feed on Sirius on radio (big mistake, terrible homers) when the Kincaid tripping call, it was so egregious they were laughing about it and urged the Commanders to quick run a play.

I think they got the touchback wrong. Tre did try to get up which maybe they thought meant he was seeking to advance the ball. I thought he was down by contact in any event. The receiver's foot flicked against him as he came down with the ball.

I agree 100% on the touchback as well.  I was very disappointed the Bills dint challenge that Tre was down and touched in the endzone.  That was brutal field position and definitely worth the challenge imo.

As long as he (Williams) is quick between the ears as well…

I am a big believer in Williams, went to Tulane Grad school so I watched a lot of him.  Tulane is not a football factory school like so many Div 1 schools, the players actually attend real classes.  I have watched him play & heard Williams speak, he is very articulate and speaks intelligently.  Give him time, he will become a great LBers.  Too young and inexperienced to be MLBer this year except when the game outcome has already been decided.

Which games are these? Every game I have watched, and it's been a lot, has seen players returning these kicks instead of calling for a fair catch, except the one last night where he fair caught a kick at the 12.

The NFL doesn't want to eliminate touchbacks, they want to eliminate KO Returns. That would be the opposite of what they are hoping to accomplish.

I know that and is exactly why I wrote "until it is outlawed and deemed too dangerous".

  13. No kickoff returns are not dead.  The Texans had an upfield blocker go all the way for a TD in a kickoff last Sunday.  The NFL will continue to tweak it until it is outlawed and deemed too dangerous.  I would suggest they start by putting a ball kicked out of or downed in the endzone back to the 20, 25 is too generous imo.

They’ve scored just 1 more point than us through 3 games. I’m confident we’ll beat them twice this year. Their coach is a weird alien and I’ve hated their franchise since the 70’s. Knock Tua on his ass and he’ll be on IR for at least a month.

When I first heard McDaniels talk, I almost started  to laugh, never thought he would command respect from NFL players twice his size.  So far, I hate to admit it but I am wrong, especially with the dysfunctional Miami ownership, have to give the weird alien credit.

if you're not impressed w Miami and their offense I don't know what to tell you

DId I say i wasn't impressed with their offense, no I did not.  Although it wasnt impressive versus the Pats.

Re-read what I wrote, you have to play defense and special teams and thus far their defense is suspect.  The most over-sued current expression is, you have to play "complimentary football".

I think some of it is the receivers - Diggs is great, but he really isn’t a good open field runner.  He’s mostly looking to protect the ball and himself it seems, which is ok by me.  But I have noticed the same thing about YAC with this team.

I noticed that with Diggs yesterday and he does a very good job of that.  He is not going to try  for a Dawson Knox roll over a defender.  I was impressed they was he can do that, very Russell Wilson like in his prime.

I think the Dolphins are the best team rn

They put a college score line on an NFL team, they should be #1 and Niners #2

This aint college and in the NFL you have to play defense and competent special tams.  Look at Miami versus San Diego, a coin flip on which team was going to score last.  Hard to say Miami is the best NFL team when their defense is highly suspect.

  17. NFL parity is for real.

Any team can lose to any other team, just ask Dallas and Jax from yesterday and the Bills from opening week.  I think Josh would have benefitted from more work in pre-season.

I learned almost nothing from the Jets game (Josh collapse) or yesterdays Washington bombardment, neither game "told me" anything about the Bills, all were statistical flukes.
