Coaching Staff has to take a huge blame for yesterday
SCBills replied to BillyBilliams's topic in The Stadium Wall
And people will blame the OL, not realizing that most OL's going up against a good Front 4 will struggle when every play is drop back and wait for long developing routes to be run. Dorsey needs to take some of the freedom away from Allen if he can't trust Allen to take checkdowns as part of the long game. Send in plays where the first read is a shallow route or throw to the flat from time to time. Don't make him think... just dial it up and keep dialing them up until the defense adjusts. Allen has the strongest arm, maybe ever, doesn't matter when teams are dropping 7 and the DL can pin their ears back and rush. -
Fwiw, I think this team needs a 7-1 Vikings team with Cousins vibing on the plane home to get them focused. They played the Green Bay game like it was a scrimmage. They looked unfocused and unprepared against a Jets team, coming off a loss, with a QB fighting for his career and young talent looking to make a statement. Here comes a team that should have our attention. If the defense isn't humbled by getting the ball run down their throat in consecutive weeks and Josh Allen isn't embarassed getting outplayed by a Mouseketeer, than I'm not sure what can get their attention.

Who has been the biggest disappointment?
SCBills replied to Milanos Milano's topic in The Stadium Wall
Completely agree. Allen and McKenzie have zero chemistry right now. Even if McKenzie runs a good route, I don't even know that Allen will look his way. He's certainly not even remotely close to trusting McKenzie enough to make tight window throws which is quite the problem if you're a slot receiver working short to intermediate areas of the field. Shakir has better hands and give us much more vertical ability down the field. ...and maybe it doesn't work, maybe Shakir isn't ready, but we are literally getting nothing as it is. It's worth a shot on a guy that is viewed as the eventual long term Slot WR on this team. -

Joe B pointed out, and it's a fair point, even WR1's would struggle going up against Alexander and Sauce in consecutive weeks. That being said, I don't even know what Gabe does for us aside from go routes... anything else involving him looks disastrous, both with him attacking the ball and Allen trying to get it to him. Gabe's role is compounded by the fact that McKenzie is literally useless out there. We do not currently have a slot receiver. For a team running heavy 11 personnel, that's a massive problem. -
This is a confusing statement to make

We all know the weaknesses, worries, strengths and reasons for optimism with this team. At 6-2, with a history of going into a lull around this time of year, what would YOU do? Option 1 - Sign OBJ, obviously. Lack of a true WR2 is clearly a massive issue this year. Let's take that out of the equation for now. If it's me: -Bench McKenzie from the slot role. He's killing the offense. Some of it is on him, some of it is due to Allen clearly not trusting him. Develop a package for him with jet sweeps, motion and goal line opportunities. That should have been his role all along. -Give Shakir extended run at slot and see if he can take ownership of the role and develop chemistry with Allen. We have Kumerow back as outside depth. -Use Hines heavy in the slot and as an Ekeler-type safety valve -Settle on two backs and allow them to find a rhythm. As much as I like Cook, this likely becomes Singletary and Hines. Rotating 3 just gets too jumbled and I don't think it works for a guy who needs touches to get into the game and another guy who we're trying to integrate mid-season. -Force Allen to throw designed check downs to loosen two deep shells. I don't care if he doesn't want to do it.. he has to. Run designed plays that go to the RB in the flat or in shallow routes. If they don't want to run the ball more, fine.. but if Knox is needed to block, we need a reliable short passing game. Give Allen easy reads and nickel/dime teams to death 5-10 yards at a time until they react. On Defense, I'm sure they'll figure out the run game issues... They always do, let's just hope it's sooner rather than later.

Oliver was really good against Green Bay, at least in terms of noticeable plays, but he was a joke yesterday. I'd honestly consider moving him this offseason for a pick. At some point we should consider getting ahead of some of these expiring deals and flip them for picks. I'm open to having my mind changed on Ed, but unless he follows Quinnen's lead and makes the jump into the Tier 2 of DT's behind Donald, I'm out on Oliver for next year.

A guy on WGR said it pretty well this morning
SCBills replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
If these slumps continually cost us the 1 seed, nobody is overreacting. This team was built to win a Super Bowl and make the Playoffs go through Buffalo. You think Pegula wants to keep paying tons of cash over cap so Beane can give McDermott a top end roster plus depth every year only to never host the AFC CG? Mahomes has never played a road Playoff game. -

Sure, go out and beat the Vikings .. look competent doing it .. and all this talk ends. Nobody is freaking out because we're 6-2 and just lost a close game where we played about as bad as we can, on the road, to a decent team. The panic is because we've seen this story before. Run game woes that last a few games before McD figures it out and mid-season lulls where Allen plays some horrible football at times and the offense looks like a JV team. Show us this year is different.. Show us this isn't the same pattern we've seen from McDermott coached teams that lead us to having to play in Arrowhead every postseason.- 50 replies

Who has been the biggest disappointment?
SCBills replied to Milanos Milano's topic in The Stadium Wall
1) Davis - He was poised to be a top end #2. He's not even an average #2. He's a luxury high end big play WR3 at the moment. 2) McKenzie - We have next to zero slot production unless we move Diggs there. This was a big part of Allen's evolution with a guy like Cole Beasley providing a safety valve to move the chains. McKenzie needs to be replaced, now.. Whether it's by signing OBJ or giving Shakir a true opportunity. McKenzie is killing the Offense by causing to play with a hand tied behind out back in 11 personnel. He's a solid gadget player.. let him be that. 3) Defensive Contract Guys - This may be unpopular, but Edmunds, Oliver and Poyer. None of them are making the case to be re-signed. Edmunds looks great when the DL looks great.. struggles when the DL struggles.. still rarely any splash plays. You don't pay guys like that. Nick Bolton was more noticeable last night than Edmunds has been all year. I know Edmunds has a different role, but you can't convince me that's worth 18M per year. Oliver has been hurt, and maybe he's still working his way back... he's good, not great... you don't pay a good DT big money. We'll see how the season progresses.. Poyer is a stud. We all love the guy. He's showing why you can't pay older players big money. Availability. At this point, the plan should be to simply manage his health to have him ready for the Playoffs. -
They’re not easily replaced, but I interpreted the question as who severely hurts our ability to win a SB. We lost Tre last year, and many would have said him, but we were a coaching/execution meltdown away from probably winning it all. To me, it’s Allen, Diggs and Von. That’s it. Others make it more difficult, but those three are irreplaceable. Similar to the Chiefs, where it’s Mahomes, Kelce and Jones.

Can we talk about how 2 teams in a row ran it down our throat...
SCBills replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall
This has been a multiple game issue every season under McDermott. They get it figured out eventually. Run game problems and the patented mid-season swoon are getting old real quick though. -
McKenzie is not a starting slot. He’s our Mecole Hardman. They even drafted a slot who they are bringing along slowly .. Moore vs Shakir. Is Hardman a starting slot for KC? Nope. They have Juju and traded for Toney because they know he’s not it. McKenzie is a massive weakness on this offense. Crowder injury is likely way more consequential than we ever thought.
-
That’s part of the problem. Our skill players stay overrated. I saw multiple plays last night, in an ugly Chiefs/Mahomes performance, that I haven’t seen anyone make for Allen this year. Their WR5 and TE2 both made circus catches that Davis won’t make and McKenzie could never make. Do we even have a TE2 anymore?
-
After watching the Chiefs struggle at home against the worst QB play seen in years, yea.. I think there would be a different perception. Bills lost another close one. Add that to the list. Are they better than what they showed yesterday? Absolutely. If they have to go to Arrowhead in the Playoffs though … we’ll look back on games like this. … just like we did last year.
-
It’s all about Allen. That’s why you feel this way. The run defense has been an issue for multiple games every year and they figure it out. We thought we had an elite QB, with an elite Offense.. and we likely still do .. but that aura is gone right now. I was at the Jax game last year, and it feels different when you’re there .. I imagine I’d have felt this way if I watched that debacle on tv .. but six quarters of our MVP caliber QB playing like Drew Lock and his supporting cast looking weak is definitely enough to let the air out of the balloon. (For the time being)

WEEK #9 - AROUND THE NFL GAMEDAY THREAD - NON BILLS

Id feel like how I feel today, but less angry. Unfortunately we had to play a competent offense led by a character from High School Musical while KC got an offense led by a literal tomato can. -

Bills can throw haymakers, haven’t figured out the jab. Chiefs throw a hundred jabs, but don’t have knockout power. Hence, both Offenses having games like this against tough Defenses. -

Not for nothing, but Tennessee wasn’t going 75 yards to end it. Probably better to hope for a turnover and then get a FG attempt to win. -

Does Kelce become invisible in these situations!? Is he Translucent from The Boys. I don’t understand. -

Willis and their skill position players are probably as bad as it gets in the NFL Titans held onto that lead as best they could.
