The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
Buffalo Bills Fan replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Lol That is great hoping on the last part true. Be safe man. Right hopefully get the job back when country opens back up. And this virus gets to be done with. This is kind of in a way a boring virus lol. Be safe man. Hopefully you're friend/neighbor ok and wish him well. In a rural town here I live. Unsure how bad it is going to be. Have a testing center at a school lol. A store had 3 employees today caught it. Ya i'll let everyone know about rural town. Think with Easter and Winter snow again helps a smaller towns as well (bad weather here next couple days). The places worry the most might be low income or nursing home if they get it when packed full of people. Happy late Easter to everyone. -

Two websites for leading universities in China seem to have published and then deleted academic research about the origins of the coronavirus, according to a report. The posts on the websites of Fudan University and the China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) were erased from online caches -- in a possible bid to control the narrative surrounding the pandemic, The Guardian reported. The Wuhan university appeared to have published and then deleted posts about academic research that China’s ministry of science and technology needed to approve before publication. Similar apparent censorship turned up in the form of deleted posts originally published on April 9 by the school of information science and technology at Fudan University in Shanghai.

The Math Behind Social Distancing As we wait for scientists and healthcare professionals to develop a vaccine for COVID-19, there is another, more readily available tool at our disposal. Social distancing, defined as measures taken to reduce physical contact, is the first line of defense for containing an infectious disease like COVID-19. That’s because these infections spread when people cough, sneeze, or touch surfaces on which the virus resides. To help us grasp the impact these measures can actually have, today’s infographic illustrates how a reduction in social exposure can theoretically contain the spread of infection. Theoretical Potential The calculations used to create today’s infographic come from Signer Laboratory, a stem cell research lab located in the Moores Cancer Center at the University of California San Diego. Using a summation formula makes it possible to estimate the number of new infections over a 30 day period, across three scenarios. Scenario 5 Day Period 30 Day Period No social distancing practiced 1 person infects 2.5* others 406 people infected as a result 50% reduction in social exposure 1 person infects 1.25* others 15 people infected as a result 75% reduction in social exposure 1 person infects 0.625* others 2.5 people infected as a result *For estimations only. It is not possible to infect only a fraction of another person. To arrive at the figures reported above, Robert A.J. Signer, Ph.D., and his team made a number of key assumptions. First, they estimated the basic reproduction number (R0) of COVID-19 to be 2.5, a figure supported by recent research. This means that, on average, an infected individual will spread the disease to 2.5 other people. Next, they assumed that an infected individual will unknowingly spread COVID-19 over the median five day incubation period. After this period, the individual will begin to develop symptoms, immediately self quarantine, and no longer pose a threat. Finally, they assumed a direct linear correlation between social interactions and R0. This means that when an infected person reduces their physical contact with others by 50%, they also spread the disease by an amount 50% less. https://www.visualcapitalist.com/the-math-behind-social-distancing/ Lots more great info in article. -

Hello everyone, and I had the opportunity to visit Cassandra at Buffalo Children's today. As mentioned she is off the Ecmo machine and doing most of the work. It will take some time for her to heal. She gets better every day. Prayers and time will help her heal. We don't know yet what virus did this. It was not covid. She was tested a few times for that and all negative. Thank you for all the outreach and we will keep you posted. My best advice to parents is tell your children you love them everyday. You never know what the next day will bring. Easter is a special holiday happening tomorrow. Please cherish and make it the best for your children and yourselves. It will be a hard holiday for us to get through but we will make the best of it. Your outreach has been extremely powerful and it is helping us get through this hard and difficult time so thank you and Happy Easter. Ya looks like not covid. But telling my sister, got to keep her away from this virus. Might agrument with her, she might hate me. After fighting something bad. But glad she is doing better. Worries me if a nurse or doctor infected or dirty clothes (from working someone else) get her infected. This virus is scary after a person struggling thru something else fighting else. Worries me. -

But ya President Trump is a good leader. Very good President.

Hope soo. Plus I think America should kick out anything China owned. I think they have some control in Hollywood (many lots more). America should build it's own things and only own things. No control from any any country.

Yeah another thing i'm worried about. Might be a stronger flu or less flu shots. So so on flu shots. Hoping labs prepared in case.. Flu changes every year. Why for vaccines. How Influenza (Flu) Vaccines Are Made Español medical icon Selecting Viruses for the Seasonal Influenza Vaccine lab icon Advancements in Influenza Vaccines On This Page Egg-Based Flu Vaccines Cell-Based Flu Vaccines Recombinant Flu Vaccines For the United States there are three different influenza vaccine production technologies approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)external icon: egg-based flu vaccine, cell-based flu vaccine, and recombinant flu vaccine. All commercially available flu vaccines in the United States are made by private sector manufacturers. Different manufacturers use different production technologies, but all flu vaccines meet FDA safety and effectiveness requirements. Different vaccines have different indications. See Influenza Vaccines — United States, 2019-2020 Influenza Season for specific indications. Egg-Based Flu Vaccines The most common way that flu vaccines are made is using an egg-based manufacturing process that has been used for more than 70 years. Egg-based vaccine manufacturing is used to make both inactivated (killed) vaccine (usually called the “flu shot”) and live attenuated (weakened) vaccine (usually called the “nasal spray flu vaccine”). The egg-based production process begins with CDC or another laboratory partner in the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System providing private sector manufacturers with candidate vaccine viruses (CVVs) grown in eggs per current FDA regulatory requirements. These CVVs are then injected into fertilized hen’s eggs and incubated for several days to allow the viruses to replicate. The fluid containing virus is harvested from the eggs. For inactivated influenza vaccines (i.e., flu shots), the vaccine viruses are then inactivated (killed), and the virus antigen is purified. The manufacturing process continues with quality testing, filling and distribution. For the nasal spray flu vaccine (i.e., the live attenuated influenza vaccine – LAIV), the starting CVVs are live, but weakened viruses that go through a different production process. FDA tests and approves all influenza vaccines prior to release and shipment. There are several different manufacturers that use this production technology to make flu vaccines for use in the United States. This production method requires large numbers of chicken eggs to produce vaccine and may take longer than other production methods.
