Wait, what?! He's had AMPLE opportunity today to prove he's who people want him to be, but it's entirely on him this entire 2nd half for crumbling under the pressure. The turnovers, the bad passes, the sacks taking us out of FG range....hell, the toss with 1:03 left for no reason that could've cost us the game was proof enough the pressure has dramatically affected his mentality.

After the last pass attempt, why wouldn't you run it? You have the 2 minute warning coming up, and you don't want to stop the clock. It's smarter to get to the 2 min warning and get a 1st, then you can score & run down the clock. Hoping Allen makes a pass under pressure when he hasn't even been consistent with a clean pocket isn't the best strategy.

And now we can see why letting our offense just durdle around all game and hoping our defense keeps it close isn't a good strategy. We've had numerous chances the past 3 drives to put this game out of reach, now we need a comeback. Let's see if all those 4th quarter comebacks earlier in the year that people always reference actually matter now. Best 4th quarter passer rating right? Let's see it.

And when people talk about being unable to pass for 300 yards, it's drives like we've just seen that prevent Allen from doing so... Those numbers don't matter, but they come when you're asked to carry your weight & make plays through the air when you're needed. Completing simple passes and keeping drives alive will naturally lead to those stats, even though the stats themselves don't matter. But we needed way more from him the past 3-4 drives, and it's not bad play calling that's slowing him down.

This is a hard game to predict. When you actually look at how Allen has played, especially recently, it's hard to imagine him leading a team to a post season victory. But when you consider the Texans & their inconsistencies and injuries, I can see our defense keeping us in it long enough for us to eventually come up with something offensively. I really don't even feel confident enough to make a prediction one way or another yet. Have to watch more on Houston.

I definitely agree with you that there's more than just the opening drive of a game, the entire body of work throughout the game matters (it's why I don't care much for the hyped 4th quarter passer rating stuff when the rest of the game nothing happens). At the same time, look how close so many of our games are. If we were more of a threat to score on our opening drive we'd not only set up our defense in a better position from there on out, we'd have more breathing room for the offense to figure itself out while it meanders around for long stretches (as they do on occasion). One more TD against some of these teams could do wonders, and it should be easiest right out of the gate. I think McDermott & Daboll need to really hunker down & analyze why what they've been doing is so completely ineffective. Just ONE TD? And against the Redskins? C'mon...we're better than that.
