And this guys is why our QB needs to be able to throw for 300+ yards. Games where the defense isn't carrying you require the offense to step up. We're about to be in a 2 score hole in the 1st quarter. Need to play catch up or risk getting blown out.

The last angle shown didn't give a good view if what he actually had to do to make that catch. He had to dive fully extended while touching his tip toes right on the edge while and still needed to extend his arms 4 more feet out of bounds to even touch the ball. Yes, he still had a chance, but he had to put out a hell of an effort just to have an opportunity at the ball. The 4th down Brown drop was worse. Great play call, great read, catchable pass.

I liked your argument until you disregarded Josh's "boneheaded plays" as just the odd ball, brush it off, once in a blue moon kind of mistakes that players like Drew Brees or Tom Brady will have on a rare occasion... If that's how you're going to look at Josh's mistakes, then Ryan Leaf, Blaine Gabbert, Johnny Manziel, JaMarcus Russell, Nathan Peterman, etc. are comparable to Brees & Brady too...I mean, they all make mistakes from time to time. Time & experience aren't the "ONLY" thing that will reduce that frequency either. Many young QB's can and do play at an extremely high level, and it didn't take time or experience to get there. Not every person in the world is capable of being great just by trying really, really hard. There are many factors that are involved, and physical gifts are but a small part of that equation. We'll see what happens, but just spending more time out there won't make things better. Statistically he's playing very much like he did last year, "eye test" or not.

I'm still pretty worried about how this team will stack up against the Cowboys on the road. I mean home or away we struggle against most teams, but a team with a strong O-line, top 5 RB, and very good QB seems like it'll give us serious problems, especially if we can't establish our own run game & somehow hold them to under 20 points. The Cowboys schedule has been pretty easy like ours, but they're averaging just over 28 points a game while we're averaging 19.75. And as another board member posted earlier this week, the Bills under McDermott are 3-17 when the opponent scores 20 or more points, so that's pretty concerning.

Gotta give Gruden some credit. All last season and up through this offseason he got a ton of crap & was the butt of a lot of jokes. Now here the Raiders are at a respectable 5-4. At the very least, they're moving in the right direction. Hats off to him.

With that said, I voted yes too, so I've got no room to talk lol He hasn't proven he's a franchise QB yet, nor has he shown he was worthy of trading away so many picks to move up to take in the 1st round while passing on guys like Deshaun Watson or Patrick Mahomes in 2017, but he IS improving. However, I don't think he's improving in all areas, but he is improving in others that are definitely important. But man would I like to see just one game where he plays well all 4 quarters & doesn't disappear for long stretches. I don't even care if it's against Dolphins 3rd stringers, I just want to see it happen.

Nah, people are fine ragging on Star because he was a FA. Oliver is a bit more touchy of a subject since he was a 1st round draft pick. Thankfully he's not a QB, otherwise people would just be screaming "put more talent around him!" and "fire the defensive coordinator!" for the next several years.

That's a good assessment. It's not always necessary, nor is it the defining characteristic of franchise QB's, but it's an aspect of their game that's certainly there & a trademark of successful QB's. Looking back at all the "franchise" guys the past decade, which one of these was incapable of throwing for 300+ yards? Peyton Manning Ben Roethlisberger Aaron Rodgers Cam Newton Eli Manning Drew Brees Tom Brady Carson Wentz Russell Wilson Patrick Mahomes Philip Rivers Jared Goff Andrew Luck Matt Ryan Tony Romo DeShaun Watson Joe Flacco Matthew Stafford I'm not even saying these guys are the best of all time, only they were/are the franchise guys that lead their team & proved capable enough to build around. Not a single one of those guys couldn't do it, even if some didn't do it often. When the time came, their teams could reasonably rely on them to air it out, some with more success than others, but they all could do it nonetheless. 300+ yard games are often byproducts of a successful passing attack or a QB being able to put the team on his back when the defense needs an assist. Of course it can be a byproduct of playing from behind as well & needing to catch up, but regardless, IT STILL HAPPENS. Point being, if you're losing & needing a comeback, the QB may need to air it out to catch you back up. If the Bills defense hasn't kept it close, the Bills might not be able to do that. Just like the Eagles game, you can't slowly run your way back to victory. There's only one option left, and not being able to do it does not equal "franchise guy."

Ok, our oline was dominated on those plays. Several times during the game he came in on short yardage situations and converted. Let's not pretend he hasn't helped a ton this year, or that plenty of other great RBs, even in their prime, got stuffed at the line or been held at the goal line on a drive. Condensing his work down to a single goal line stance is a disservice to his actual play.

I know it's amusing to break it all down to just this, but if he's incapable of throwing for 300 yards, he won't be a franchise guy ever. Sorry, that's just the reality of the NFL today. There's not a single franchise guy that can't do it several times a year minimum. To never be able to do it means there's something seriously lacking in part of his game. Like it or not, that'll have to change at some point or the Bills will be looking for a new QB in a couple years.

What.... Donald was great at the start of his career. I mean, he was ONLY the NFL Defensive Rookie of the year, a Pro Bowl player, and named to the NFL's All Rookie Team...totally below average right? I swear, sometimes people don't even think before saying ANYTHING to defend our own players. Also doesn't help that in the past we had a difference maker at DT the year we drafted him...Dareus.

"Allen again couldn't connect deep, but with minimal pressure in this game, he was noticeably poised inside the pocket, got through his reads often, and threw with impressive accuracy at the short and intermediate levels" As much as it sucks that Allen's deep ball accuracy has been awful the past 2 seasons, it's more important that he hits the short & intermediate passes. He will need to develop better accuracy with the deep ball, as we've seen numerous times this year clear TD opportunities have been missed due to poor accuracy, but over the course of a 60 minute game the majority of passes will be short-intermediate, and that's what will move the chains. And the more you move the chains, the more time your defense has to rest...a defense which we absolutely need to do well in order for us to win any games. So I'm definitely happy with this development, and is a very positive sign for him moving forward.

It's pretty clear that if the defense isn't doing most of the heavy lifting, we won't win games. And just saying "throw for 300 yards" isn't how it works. Yes, good QB's show they can do that, and pretty consistently, but we don't have that with Allen *YET* Also, just like with every OC that people complain about, I have to once again remind everyone that offenses & play calling are limited by offensive personnel & their ability to execute on the field. We've seen games where the idea was definitely to force the pass and "open it up," as well as take shots down field. We weren't able to do those things...and often times our QB would not take care of the football. That leads to dialing it back, limiting the playbook and going with a more slow & methodical approach to help our QB manage the game better.

True, but kind of dumb at the same time. Him & Jarvis Landry both have over 550 yards half way through the season, and it's not like they're playing on some fantastic team. In comparison, our best WR has only 28 more yards than Beckham, and he's our definitive #1 WR. The Browns have the luxury of having two great WR's, so obviously Odell isn't going to get ALL the targets... I dunno, I guess I'm just used to seeing such weak production at the WR position that I'd be thrilled having 2 that are on pace to both have 1,000 yard seasons.

Gotta disagree. I don't think it's any one person, but the every game lately I see Edmunds making tackles well downfield, rarely meeting the RB at the line. And when he does, he's too tall & hitting up high, so he gets pushed back or plowed over. I'm not saying Edmunds is even bad or anything, only that for whatever reason (scheme, positioning, I don't know) he hasn't been very good at stopping the run. I mentioned his height because I'm starting to think his lengthy body might make it harder for him to get down & stop these strong, stout RB's at the point of contact. It helps in pass defense though, so it's a give & take.

Not to mention it's showing Jim's stats through 6 games & Josh's stats through 8 games...

The Facebook post of this image posted on the Bills Mafia page has people actually using it to claim Kelly wasn't that good & would only be "average," today because of how much better QB's like Allen are... This is what happens when people post misleading images online to push an agenda. People are now dragging down are best QB in franchise history to prop up the one we have now. "Duwayne WayneWonder Demps - All the older QB' stats are getting beat now it should it's a different time if Kim Kelly played now he would have been average not a franchise QB" That's just an example of the kind of mentality people have to prop up their agenda.

The fact that you and others are even making comparisons to championship caliber teams of the past, even if only to make a point, just shows out of touch this fanbase is with the realities of this team. It's not just about the amount of points or W/L record, it's HOW THEY ACTUALLY PLAY ON THE FIELD! For real people, believe it or not, people do watch our games sometimes and what they see isn't convincing. Our QB is young and doesn't do any one thing particularly well, though he does fumble a lot & throw a good amount of picks. At the same time, he does just enough in the 4th quarter to help the team win, which is all the fans care about but not the rest of the world who watches. When the offense just kind of meanders through a couple quarters each game (especially the 3rd quarter where they often do nothing), and when they're doing this against some of the worst opponents in the league, it's hard to consider this team a genuine threat to anybody. And now that the defense has shown they can't stop the run, even when they specifically gameplan to stop the run, how can anyone be surprised we're not getting showered with praise? The media IS talking about us, plenty actually...just not all sunshine & rainbows like the fans want. I live in Texas, and I hear Bills talk almost daily whereas I never used to hear it during the drought. Beat someone relevant, play ONE great game against ANYONE, hell, play a good full 4 quarters against anyone... Then whine about not getting enough praise.
