Saying we can win it in a year with roster turnovers of major players on the team is what children do when they can’t comprehend the reality of a situation. When the adults explain what the situation really is the children would start calling people names because they just don’t like it.

We mainly lost older guys who couldn't stay healthy.

We almost beat KC w/ Diggs not really showing up and dropping a pass that could have won that game.  I feel confident that whoever we get in the 1st round can at least match the 40 yards per game production we were seeing in the last half of the season.

We might be better w/ younger, faster guys at safety.  Losing Morse is more of a big deal, but if McGovern can excel there, it's a wash.

I'm not seeing any kind of devastating roster turnover.  We were old, and got younger, and faster.  And we'll get a bunch of guys back who weren't even playing at the end, or were playing hurt.

  2. The Texans are being overrated.

I said it yesterday - people should check their schedule last season.  They didn't beat many good teams.  They'll have a 1st place schedule this year, and won't catch teams by surprise like they did in '23.

Not that they won't be in contention, but they haven't proven much to me yet.

Thanks for posting this! Since the Diggs’ trade I’ve pondering Beane’s rationale and of course a trade up in the draft is almost a guarantee. Under that assumption Came up with some possibilities, 3 as a matter of fact.

When Beane gave up his 1st rd pick for Diggs it almost killed him. He was itching so bad during that draft. I remember him stopping just short of saying that he would never give up a 1st rder again unless it was in an extreme circumstance. Well, here we are! What I believe what Beane might be thinking is he can trade next year’s 1st rd pick this year because he has 2 2nd rd picks next year that he can pair up and get back into the 1st rd again. Just food for thought.

Scenario #1. Using the above chart Beane goes COMPLETELY all in and makes a trade with the Bears at #9. The Bears only have 4 picks in the entire draft so I could see them moving back to acquire more picks. This serves twofold, it gets them one of the top 3 WRs in the draft and it also leapfrogs the Jets at #10 who very well could be taking one of the top WRs themselves. My guess would be it’s for Rome Odunze.

Scenario #2. Once again Beane makes another leapfrog move and trades up with the Saints at #14 just before the Colts at #15. In this scenario it’s for LSU WR Brian Thomas Jr. Based on LSU WRs in the past (Chase & Jefferson) being so pro ready I believe that this is our best option for Diggs’ replacement. Git ‘er done Beanie!

Scenario #3. The Bills just stand pat at #28 and draft Georgia WR Ladd McConkey. Under this scenario I would think that the Bills would also make a trade for a veteran like Brandon Aiyuk. I won’t venture what the compensation would be but the Bills but I would imagine that Buffalo will have enough resources left to get a trade like this done.

Personally I like Scenario #2 the best and that’s what I’m hoping for.

Great breakdown of the options.  My preference would be the 1st - with no #1 on this team, I'd really love to get one of the top 3 guys.

Would you (or anyone) think there is a chance we might trade w/ the Giants & try to get Nabers?

  4. Diggs arriving helped make Allen a better QB.  Diggs leaving will likely make him an even better QB.

I think the past couple of years, Allen has adjusted his own game to try to accommodate Diggs and keep him "happy."  It wouldn't surprise me if his turnovers went down now - instead of trying to force things to Diggs, he might get back to just playing loose & having fun.

Floyd had 10.5 sacks, and Diggs and Davis combined for 150 catches, 2000 yards, and 15 TDs.  If they weren’t big contributors, who was?

I understand perfectly well that it doesn’t close a window.  I said last offseason that they should trade him, but to pretend that he doesn’t make a big difference is divorced from reality.

Well, you laughed at the idea that the Bills could make the SB in '24.  Wanna go on record?  Are you saying there is no way they'll be in contention?

    Nate Geary's take.  Agree/disagree?

    Hard disagree.

People should check the Texans last-place schedule from last year.  Very few impressive wins, imo.  Stroud was a revelation - and could be great this year.  Or, opposing DC's could catch up a bit, and he could have a sophomore slump.

And if they are better, it's great strategy by the Bills.  Does anyone think Diggs is gonna be happy w/ his targets on that team? Is he even their best receiver?

  7. @Billl - still w/ the laughing emojis?  Hate to tell ya - you're not going to come to an opposing team's board and hear every fan wallowing in misery & despair.  We have more than a few of those here though, if you get hyped about that kind of thing.

If anyone would understand that trading a top tier receiver shouldn't close a window, you would think it would be KC fans.  But you can focus your attention on Cincy & Houston now if you feel like we're done.

Define contender? Making the playoffs? Sure. If contender is a realistic shot at making the superbowl next season? Then call me foolish.

Bills closest opportunity to get to a superbowl was 4 seasons ago. Since then they’ve not gotten pass the divisional 3 times with ascending and stable teams. Now with major roster turnovers they’re suddenly going to achieve more than they’ve ever had? Yeah…no.

We gave KC their best game in the playoffs, and beat them in the regular.  That was w/ Diggs underperforming and dropping what likely could have won the game..

We're getting guys back from injury, including 2 top tier LB's, and 2 CB's (Douglas was clearly playing hurt at the end).  Kincaid will be in year 2, we have a good running game, and Allen.  Of the guys we lost, only Morse was really a big contributor this past season.

I think we have just as realistic a shot at the SB as we have for the past 3 years.

  9. Man, just checking the internet - the sentiment among opposing fans seems to be that Diggs absolutely made JA what he is, and now he'll regress & basically go back to being an average QB without Diggs.

    That's really just dumb.

  10. He was great for us - but like others, I'm kind of relieved.

This team has come up short repeatedly in the playoffs.  Diggs was a no-show the past 2 playoffs losses, and dropped one of the best passes I think I've seen in the postseason.

We're heading into '24 w/ essentially a new team. It feels like a very needed clean slate.

Oh wait the 2d rounder is NEXT year. Ugh. Still was a move we needed to make but yikes. Hoping Beane already has something up his sleeve here. Can this year's 28 and one of those seconds next year get us into top 15 this year??

Beane is pretty methodical.  He's probably been thinking about how he wants to use the pick and what he plans to do in this year's draft from the minute he started considering this trade.

I do think he trades up now.

  12. A lot of people are picking the Texans in the AFC already.

They didn't play much of a schedule last year.  Now, they'll have a 1st place schedule. And Stroud looked great, but we've seen other rookies look good or great and take a step back once DC's figure out strategies to slow them down.

Not saying that will happen, and Houston could for sure be a contender. But it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't take a big leap.

The more I sit here the more I am happy riding out the WR with a pick at 28. Draft OL, DL, LB, and S... Retool this year.

Next year in a healthy cap, 2 picks inside 40, another at 55-65ish we can move up if we want or draft 2 more WRs and more firepower.

Stay at 28. For the love of God.

I'm cool w/ this.  But I trust Beane on it - if they really like a guy & want to trade up, I won't complain.

  14. Mind you - I am not saying we will or should be SB favorites, or even considered a top 3-4 contender.

But losing Diggs changes very little, imo.  A lot will depend on who we get in the 1st round this year, and if they can adjust quickly to the pro's.

Diggs did nothing for us in the past 2 playoff losses, and his production was way down the entire 2nd half of last season (when we made our run).

Just responding to thoughts in the Diggs thread that his trade clearly means a year off, and a rebuild.  To me, it means a trade up for a better receiver, and we'll still be contending.  I don't see this as some sort of window-closer.
