Yeah, the opinions of the fan base don't line up with that of the leagues decision makers.

People were hyper critical of Davis. It was excessive. He was a decent #2 wr and vastly outplayed his draft slot. He wasn't a top shelf #2 (aka 1b) but he wasn't paid or drafted as one.

I like the signing and am good with Davis moving on. Not sure it's the upgrade many think. That comes from the draft.

Yeah, not saying the signing is bad it is just clear people are undervaluing Davis at the same time overvaluing Samuel.  I do like the potential play making ability of this guy though, optimistic but I am not expecting out of this world production.   People act like Josh Allen throwing the ball means his numbers will jump significantly, that could happen but at the same time that did not work for Shefield or Harty.   Their numbers went in the crapper with Allen.

Huge upgrade over Gabe Dropavis.  Sign a S and go BPA in the first and 2nd.

Is he?   The money does not say so.  In 7 years he has 22 TD's.  Davis has 27 in 4 years and has been a great playoff performer.  Does this guy block?   He just seems different to me, not a huge upgrade.  Davis dropped the ball more than we like, sure but are you telling me this guy has no warts?

  3. This guy has some nice quotes

“I don't like soft people. I don't even like people who eat with utensils. Eat with your hands, that's what they're there for." - Mack Hollins

“If you can’t eat it with your hands, you shouldn’t be eating it.”

When a reporter inquired about soup, he said, “Shouldn’t be eating soup. You’ve never seen a lion eat soup. You’ve never seen a gorilla eat soup. You’ve never seen anything savage eat soup.”

“I hate cats. Cats will steal your soul. Never trust a cat. The small ones? No. Never look them in the eye.”

Big cats, like lions, he likes. Hollins said his father owned a lion when he was growing up in Ohio.

“It wasn’t one of those TLC hang-in-the-house lions. It was in a big cage. Killed a deer and ate it.”

“If I cut the roots out of a tree, it wouldn’t make very much sense. If this is how I feel the ground, this is how I connect to everything around me, why would I cover it?” he asked, moving his feet back and forth. “Nobody is wearing mittens here, but everyone has shoes on. Feet and hands are the exact same when you’re a baby and then all of a sudden they put shoes on, and they stop feeling (the ground).”

You should NOT be signing any 5th year options.  Ever.  The difference between that and a franchise tag is minimal and it gives you ZERO flexibility to do anything.  You either extend or ride it out.  If you get a case like Edmunds, it buys you one more year at more than he was worth before the year, and then departing or you get somebody like EO who never answered if he was worth an extension, so you had to gamble anyway.   If they had just extended Edmunds, he would have been worth ~ 2/3 of what he got paid, you allowed him to re-set his market.  5th year is nothing but a bargaining chip for teams, if the guy is t worth an extension, you ride it out, if he is, sign it before they add more dollars to that contract.  Don’t screw around.  It’s fools gold.

The bolded is a weird position to take, would you also never franchise tag a guy, even a Josh Allen, ever?  Like never ever?   Signing the 5th year option for Edmunds worked out cause it was not that much, it also worked out with Oliver IMO.   But I do understand your argument about leverage...especially in this case where it is a highly paid position like DE.

  5. The Bills have til May 8 to assign the 5th year option which will be for 2025 at about $19.076M.  The number is big for a DE so giving him the option means you have to give him that for 2025 or you need to extend him sooner.  Any chance Beane is trying to do this now where his value is maybe less than it can be after this year?  It would provide a more cost controlled/known cost moving forward.

Are we going dumpster diving in Free Agency and then hoping we hit in the draft at WR?

Yes I think so.  Diggs, Shakir and Kincaid are better than many think.  You will see a vet probably but at the right price.

Don't understand extending Dawkins. Obviously I don't have all the contract details. I'm sure it saves them cap this year. I just wouldn't tie my hands to him for that many years. He's been up and down for the last few years and has never been elite.

That said he has mostly been healthy and many LTs play well into their 30's.

Hope it was the right move and I will give Beane benefit of the doubt on this one.

Not a popular opinion but there are at least two of us!  I would have let his deal play out vs pay him top 5 money.  He is a good player, even better person and always available.   But not a top 5 player, there is my beef.  He had the leverage to push for that with PB's and time missed but the Bills could have just let it play out.

  8. If the Bills are truly just near neutral, they either will not do much else or they need to do some more work which would be restructuring Diggs (boo) or extending Taron Johnson.  Johnson wont buy that much though  I guess they do more conversion of Allen's deal but I am guessing we will see low one year deals from here on out.   On June 1 they will get 10M for Tre but that will be needed for draft class, practice squad and in season injuries.  It seems like we are seeing a conservative Beane this year.
