The only number that matters is the score at the end. There are 53 guys that contribute to that. Since you asked here is the oh so important 2023 receiving stats.
    Diggs  107rec  1183yds  8td

    Davis    45rec   746yds  7td

    Kincaid  73rec   673yds  2td

    Shakir    39rec   611yds   2td

    Cook      44rec   445yds  4td

Pick and choose games all you want. The fact is the Bills are weaker on the fire power end of things without Diggs.

Pointing out the Bills are weaker without Diggs is one thing.  Saying the only thing that matters is TD's is a way overly simplistic mindset and minimizes all of the things that have to happen in order for guys to have the opportunity for the TD which are critical.

I can promise you there will be no day of reckoning until Josh retires. They will keep moving around cap until that day. Yes we’ll see some older players let go but that’s just as much about age as it is cap.

What’s interesting is the original post talking about cash over cap. Maybe people remember the old Russ Brandon cash to cap term. That was only spending cash up to the cap.

According to this, for 2024 the Bills are at $212M which for this year for cash which puts them significantly under the cap number.  That can and will go up but not sure if they will get to the cap number for 2024.  All the dead cap is cash that was spent in previous years.

Diggs gets more money this year and gets to choose where he plays next year. Seems like a good deal for him and pretty straightforward.

I think it is clear Diggs was orchestrating all of this behind the scenes.

They were always voidable. All Houston did was move the very small amount of bonus money he had left on his contract to 2024.

Otherwise he was cutable almost any time with next to zero cap ramification.

The Houston restructure is a giant nothing burger.

Yes and no, it benefits Diggs not Houston from what I can tell by guaranteeing he can be a UFA.  I guess they could tag him.   Houston could have had the option to continue with Diggs or take a small dead cap, now its a one year deal.  To trade a potential high second next year on a rental seems a bit odd even with the 5 and  6 going back.

No doubt in my mind Beane plans to use draft capital from next year’s draft, in order to move up in either the 1st or 2nd round this year and draft the WR he wants.  Question is who does he really like and how much is he willing to spend.

If next years 1 is worth the same as this years pick at the end of two you wont get up too far to justify it to me.

  6. to me it is one giant window not a bunch of little ones.  Chiefs fans probably thought a window closed when they traded Hill.

Players come and go every year, a lot of them.  Sometimes it is more significant guys like this year but the Josh window is still wide open.

Yeah, there must have been a lot more going on that we don't know about. I know Diggs sent some mysterious tweets, but largely he kept the issues in house, and I respect him for that. Too many players go out and air their dirty laundry in interviews or on social media. Diggs didn't do that, regardless of how people feel about his tweets. Nothing was blatant.

That said, it's a real shame that he couldn't be more professional and control his emotions and attitude. He basically forced himself off the team, and that sucks.

I agree with this but I also think the Bills have some culpability for putting up with his antics.  Specifically giving him ANOTHER extension after the Tyreek Hill trade/new contract when he had several years left on his current deal.  There was no good reason to give him that extension since it kicked in after he was 30 other than he and his agent were using whatever leverage they had in the moment.   For the busniness of Diggs it was the right time to capitalize and he maximized his dollars out of Buffalo but it was not the right thing for the Bills.   In the end there was no way for Buffalo to make him happy.  The guy is immensely talented but reading Josh at pressers along with McDermott and Beane, it is obvious Diggs wanted to be force fed and for the most part they obliged him even though it may not be for the best of the team.  There will be a hole to fill but I believe the Bills will be fine without him.

Thinking of impactful veterans that are either available or possibly could be made available

    Jefferson

    DK Metcalf

    Aiyuk

    Higgins

    Sutton

    Kupp

    feel free to make suggestions

DK Metcalf would be my target. Only 26 and could be incredible with Allen

I’d offer 60 and 2025 2nd.  That should be ballpark

    only 26

    Suggestion:   Draft

  9. I am pretty excited about this news because I think it is medicine that was needed.  However on the field there is a lot that will be missed.

    1.  Diggs brought a certain in your face intensity to practice and games that I think made the Bills DB's and other WR's better.  He is always challenging his opponent.

    2.  Diggs never missed one game in 4 years, that is remarkable.

On the flip side, we should end up with someone who will at least try and block on running plays.

My only question is how in the world are we giving up more picks to trade Diggs than what we are getting back? That doesn’t sound right…

    A couple things.

    1.  volume of picks and value of picks are different things.    You would rather have a 2 vs a 5 and 6.

    2.  This is often not understood....you trade contracts as much as players.   The Texans are taking a toxic/crap contract off the Bills hands.  So yes they are getting a player but it comes with a high AAV for them also.

    3.  Diggs is over 30
