PFF: Tyrod Taylor #2 starting QB in AFCE
Crusher replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Option three : McDermott doesn't want to tank and kept the guy who's familiar with the team and got an OC who wants to work with him. The options were limited, and he wants stability until they can find an upgrade. -
PFF: Tyrod Taylor #2 starting QB in AFCE

Yes...it was fact that he's going into his seventh season. That's what JM challenged me on, and he was wrong. Point one dismissed. You do realize that during that time behind Flacco and under Harbaugh that Taylor should have learned how to command an offense and master the off field stuff, right? You do realize he had to have the playbook dumbed down, and that he has trouble reading what he sees before the snap and during the plays, right? You surely also realize that good QB's make the receivers and not the other way around, right? And you also realize that Taylor regressed from 2015 to 2016, right? RIGHT. Point two dismissed. And no, he wouldn't have high turnovers because he plays in a simplistic offense where he can't be baited into turnovers. He mainly throws to guys that are wide open on sideline routes. The offense that the Bills have had to run for him caters to what you mentioned. They know he's not capable of anticipating throws and would get baited into turnovers if they put more on his plate...hence the reason why the passing offense is bottom of the league. Point three dismissed. Has Taylor really improved his game? I've read the scouting reports, and it sure seems to match the flaws he currently has. You have a delusional view that Tyrod needs more time when he has clearly maxed out his abilities. Most QB's at least give you a glimpse of being special during their first few years. The Ravens didn't see it, and it hasn't shown with the Bills. Logic says my stance is much more likely than this illusion that Tyrod just needs to mature. He needs to learn how to master the basics, and since he hasn't yet, I seriously doubt he has the ability to do so. Point four dismissed. It's Taylor's final shot at being regarded as a legitimate starter. Sure, he can bounce around the league battling other borderline guys, but the big money and the chance to be the guy will have evaporated should the Bills move on from him. And I have all the info I need on the pay cut. If you can't put that puzzle together, you need to go back to school. All points diamissed. Thanks for the effort -

I'm fine with him being the QB this year. My position was always that he can come back on a lesser deal as a stopgap until a better option comes along. At the same time, I'm going to stay realistic with what I've seen, and expect play that's just not good enough. -

I know facts are hard for you to deal with, but that's exactly what it is. He's been in the league a long time, and I've seen rookies look much more the part of a QB than Taylor. Face facts...the guy just doesn't possess the required mental abilities that the good QB's have. This is exactly where all that time on the bench and under good coaches and players should have shown, but it hasn't. He QB's with his physical abilities, but the stuff he had time to learn just isn't there. It's now come down to his final shot, and it's more likely than not that he doesn't show much more than he has in his previous years, which isn't good enough, and which is why he took a massive pay cut and is on a year to year deal. -

This made me smile a little bit. I like stirring up those emotions in posters like yourself. And I know you are not the only one. That pain and sadness is only going to increase in the coming months. Embrace what's to come -

Yeah...we all want fantastic things to happen in our lives. The difference is that most of us end up being realistic with ourselves instead of banking on something that is not very realistic. The Bills have done this with Taylor and his contract. It's a reality check to Taylor, and it gives the Bills the ability to move on once they are in a position to. Year seven for Taylor on the way, and smart money is on him being the same guy who isn't a very good passer that will not come through when it matters most. Only a handful of guys here are having trouble coming to terms with this. And as for the rest of your post...hilariously ironic. Take a look in the mirror when you say those things about bias and a desire to be right. What's sad here is that you have failed to see that your behavior is no better than the posters you criticize. You are just on the other side of the fence doing it. -

The fact that they made him re-do his deal with less money and the ability to walk away after next season is all the proof you could ask for. Or you could choose to blindly disregard the obvious like many Taylor supporters do. -

The Bills only want Taylor to be the stopgap until they draft their guy next season. You guys will all be off the Taylor bandwagon after this season...book it. -

QB's need to be passers first, not a RB impersonating a QB. I'll take the superior passer who can challenge a defense with his arm over a gimmick QB anyday. -

Tannehill is a superior passer. -

Big accomplishment being better than whatever bum the Jets trot out there, and the disappointment Tannehill has been. For what it's worth...I couldn't even put him above Tannehill when I went through last season. I had him above Osweiler, Fitz, Simien, Cle QB's, and the Rams Qb's. He was on par with Kaepernick from what I gathered. Taylor ranks around 25-26 for me...right there with Tannehill and Kaepernick. -
I don't think too many people have an issue with what's going on now. I was not happy with Taylor getting all that guaranteed money and being kept on that deal that was basically for a franchise QB. He regressed in most aspects, so he didn't deserve to keep that contract, and he doesn't deserve to be deemed the solution at the position either. This contract is much more in line with what he deserves, and his job security is year to year. He is being treated as the rightful stopgap or bridge QB that he is now, I'm ok with that for the time being. The problem is posters like Transplant trying to tell us that he is more than that. He will almost certainly reply and say he's not, but it's easy to see that he is saying it without actually saying it. My only issue currently is the posters that want to claim Taylor is good, and that he can be the guy. I believe that the Bills don't even see him as that anymore, and are just biding time with a guy who can keep the team afloat and keep fans in the seats...at least for the first half of the season. You can wish that TT will somehow get it in his seventh year in the league. That he'll learn to run a sophisticated system, anticipate receivers, and win with his arm when it matters most. It's just not very likely at this point.

RD 5, Pick 171: Nathan Peterman (QB) - Pitt

And you've been posting throughout this thread, and it even caused you to start another Taylor thread shortly after the draft. 41 pages in, and you are still dismissing the idea that this kid could eventually unseat Taylor...as if what he has done in his six years in the league is something that cannot be outdone. You're clearly upset about this pick, and anyone who likes what they see in the kid. I'm actually becoming worried about what's going to become of you when Taylor doesn't improve and the Bills move on. -
The problem with Fahey and his whole evaluation is that the QB data is flawed and therefor cannot be compared as equal. Different Qb's run different offensive schemes, and some require much more complexity, risk taking, and ownership to make adjustments according to what they see pre snap. Taylor ran about as simplified and basic an offense as a QB can. Lynn did this after he couldn't handle Roman's offense. Taylor's accuracy and turnover ratio is good when viewed through the narrow lens that Fahey is looking through, but when you look at what other QB's are doing in terms of complexity, responsibility, and the chances they take to make plays for their team, Taylor looks like a guy that doesn't measure up. This is why people use the eye test and come away not being very impressed with Taylor and his numbers, and routinely find guys with more INT's to look much more capable at the position. Carson Wentz is a guy who you may come away unimpressed with if you look at his raw numbers, but he clearly runs his team's offense, and does alot to give his team a chance to win. I would take Wentz over Taylor with no hesitation. The bottom line is that Taylor is the posterchild for misleading stats. What you see on paper looks good, but what you are actually getting on the field is below average production and an offense that fails when it matters most. Dare Taylor to win with his arm late in games and you are a virtual lock to win against the Bills.

Passes that aren't likely to be intercepted are Tyrods specialty...mainly because he doesn't make tough throws in traffic or anticipate his receivers. It's get open, and I'll throw it to you. I'm glad that you are still trying here, but everyone knows that Tyrods low INT's are due to his penchant for not attempting the tougher throws. It has hurt this team as much as it's helped IMO. He needs to do better...plain and simple.
-
I'd take a one armed QB that can read the field and anticipate receivers over Tyrod anyday.
-
I just have to laugh every time I see one of these threads. Taylor's stats are acquired by a simplified system that requires very little in terms of making reads, checking in and out of plays, and anticipating throws. It's simply fools gold to tout the numbers that he ranks well in. When you watch the guy play, nothing you see would lead you to believe he's anything but a guy who looks to play it safe and use his athleticism to make plays. Nothing wrong with that, as that's what works best for him, but It doesn't mean he's a good QB. He's good at making the occasional play and protecting the football. It hasn't been good enough, and I don't believe this will change. Hopefully, this season settles this debate.

RD 5, Pick 171: Nathan Peterman (QB) - Pitt
Crusher replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What should put Taylor on notice is that they drafted a guy who's strengths are Tyrods weaknesses, and that those weaknesses are the foundation of successful QB play. McDermott appears to like guys that are smart and that are more steady. You can laugh now, but I think Taylor is even more on borrowed time than he was before the draft. -
He's a QB in the truest sense. Very detail oriented guy who knows how to play the position. He's got a shot to challenge Tyrod for starter, and if Tyrod doesn't come through again in crucial spots, Peterman may get on the field this season.

Tyrod will not be handed starting Job

Funny is you saying he beat Flacco in scrimmages. Taylor is done as a starter after this season, and he probably doesn't finish this season as one if I had to guess. Taylor fanboys need to come to terms with this.
