  1. First it was Burrow has moved into a tier only Mahomes is on.

Then the entire summer was endless Aaron Rodgers and the Jets. Every single day he was the lead story. He was going to take over the conference.

Rodgers lasted 4 snaps and then it became he’ll come back just in time to

    save the Jets.

Burrow got hurt 2-days into Training Camp and it was brushed aside as he always gets hurt in Training Camp and the Bengals always start slow.

Then it was Tua in Week 3. The Dolphins had found the perfect QB for their system.

Then the media moved onto Jalen Hurts. The Eagles weren’t as dominant as last year, but Hurts had matured. Then came the 49ers game and that ended.

Then it became Dak, look at this scoring, Dallas is for real.

Then it went to Brock. The 49ers are dominant, he doesn’t make mistakes, until the 4-interception game against the Ravens.

And now the media has settled on Lamar. QB of the best team in the league.

  2. If you go yards/game, taking away Week 18.

    Qtr 1 Chiefs 393

    Qtr 2 Chiefs 370

    Qtr 3 Chiefs 325

    Qtr 4 Chiefs 338

So, give it to them. They put 26 on Miami and put up 409 yards.

    They're capable.

But it's clear that outside of Mahomes and Kelce, the rest of their skill talent is not high-end (49ers type) talent. There is no Deebo Samuel on the Chiefs.

With Skyy Moore coming back it adds another avenue for Mahomes to take. But Hardman, Moore, MVS, Toney would have to have a game that they haven't had all season to play at an elite level. None of those other guys have been game changing players this year.

I am hoping Benford can play.

I never said anything about them being as good as 2020 or 21.  I said people underestimate the skill they have.  All season long I heard their skill positions are trash which is why their offense sucked all year.

If we break down the Chiefs scoring by quarter, and eliminate Week 18, here is the breakdown:

    Q1 - 25.3 ppg

    Q2 - 21.5 ppg

    Q3 - 22.0 ppg

    Q4 - 20.8 ppg

So they have the potential to blow the Bills out on a good day, I don't dispute that. But this is not an offense that got better and better throughout the year despite Mahomes' promise. Rice improved, Kelce got worse, Pacheco is pretty good, but he is not a Nick Chubb lead the league in rushing type talent.

Look at how far off we were playing on 13-seconds.

The Chiefs showed the Bills what would happen on the first play to Tyreek Hill. It was an immediate 15 yards.

And they came out and did the same thing on the next play.

I guess Nick Wright can look down the road and tell us what Kansas City will look like in 4 years, 8 years.

Apparently they'll draft another Tight End as a good as Kelce immediately, Chris Jones will never get old, Isaiah Pacheco will be Emmitt Smith.

No other AFC QB - Burrow, Stroud, Lawrence, Allen, Lamar, Herbert will ever win a Super Bowl.

The Chiefs will win 15-straight Super Bowls apparently and maybe Mahomes will be 45 and still playing.

Nick Wright's bar of good quarterback's is: Pat Mahomes. That's it. Nobody else measures up. If that's the case, why does any other fan of anyone outside of the Chiefs even watch the games?

So unless I'm missing something sounds like today's practice report is not promising and no change on any of the key guys from yesterday?

Obviously given the 'win or go home' playoff circumstances a lot of these guys can still go on Sunday even if they are DNP all week, but McD would be rolling the dice either way in terms of risking further injury for guys that aren't close to 100%, or thinking they can beat a team like the Chiefs without them.

A true double edged sword at play and I don't envy this coaching staff at all given the tough decisions that lie ahead...

I guess we should just get into our fear bunker now and just let the tornado sweep us away.

  7. Benford is the only one I’m holding out hope for. Reported as a small meniscus tear.

    Rapp hasn’t practiced since Miami.

Gabe has a Grade II PCL and given that a rolled ankle in Week 2 plagued him all last season according to Beane, I have no hope he’s coming back.

    Spector is always hurt.

Benard’s ankle sprain didn’t look that bad, certainly not a bad as some basketball players who step on other player’s feet and the ankle rotates to the floor.

Maybe it's just me and I'm romanticizing the latter Daboll years, but the passing offense still seems a bit disjointed, does it not?

A lot of the success seems to come down from broken down plays that Allen has to improvise on as opposed to guys being schemed open or even the odd gadget play. I agree that a big chunk of Allen's success will depend on him just not thinking and going off-script at times but I think back to some of the games he had earlier in his career and how they made everything look so easy, even against some really good defenses.

Keep hoping every week that they can get things together but I don't think that's happening without a new OC. On the other hand, I think Josh is that good where he can single-handedly win you the next three games to make this point moot but I would still love to see what he could do with some fresh blood in the coaching room.

    We have no #2 WR.

You're getting 0-0 now regularly from that position.

Past that, Harty is in for a few pays and you don't see him again, Isabella got 1 target last week.

This is the problem. The line is there. The QB isn't changing. You have a competent OC. There are no dependable WRs past Diggs and Shakir.

This started in 2021 when Beane signed Emmanuel Sanders. That marked the end of trying to find another top-flight WR to pair with Diggs. Three seasons later and we're still in that boat. Kincaid mitigates this some, but there is no size or speed at WR.

It's somewhat of a myth on here that short passes are automatically available. That is not always the case. Allen failing to take profits was absolutely not the issue against the Steelers. I've watched the all-22. He was processing the field and reading the defense as well as he has all season. People on here think Cook/Kincaid/Shakir are just automatically getting open underneath... Trust me, those reads are often times covered up perfectly.

Against zone defense I would say the underneath options tend to be there. But defenses are playing a lot of man against us lately because they know they can get away with it... And if you watch the tape you will often times see those supposedly always open underneath options getting zero separation. If we had a true "take the top off the defense" option we would probably see more favorable looks. But with the personnel that we have it is going to be tough sledding moving the ball down the field consistently. Luckily we have one of the toughest QBs in NFL history.

    AMEN - YES

  9. I was much more pessimistic about the Bengals last year.

I felt sick to my stomach all week last year, I knew we were going to get rocked.

This game, right now, just laser focused on the practice report and who is going to tape it up and try to play in this game.

The Bills know what’s on the line and how big this game is. I think guys are going to do everything they can to get back.

And last week McDermott was willing to let things go into the weekend on Douglas and Dodson so that tells me they understand the urgency and are willing to take it to the 12th hour.

Kincaid is going to be a good one, Shakir has developed into a solid 4th option…. Cook is still shaky to me. He’s explosive but he also drops some easy balls and seems to have a fumbling issue….also doesn’t seem like a very smart player and at the end of the day he is just a RB…. Their gigantic ***** up(for the 2nd year in a row) is relying on Davis as their number two WR….amazingly Josh and the offense perform better with him out of the line up….that’s how bad it’s gotten with Davis. I’d trade Harty, Sherfield, and Rapp for Hopkins in a hot second and as @HappyDays has stated many times Beane royally ***** up in not signing him…. I do agree they are better off then last year without question and hopefully they find a way regardless of the lack of a true #2 WR!

I agree with all of this.

Cook for sure. As much as they have invested in running back (Singletary, Moss, Cook, Hines) they another guy.

WR is where Beane has missed the mark since 2021. Signing Emmanuel Sanders was the first acceptance to not try very hard after Diggs.

For this Sunday, Harty has to play more. For as good as Sherfield was on the fly ball against Miami, he went right back to a 0-0 with more playing time against the Steelers.

The Bills must prioritize more speed and playmaking around Allen, and the Bills desperately need a taller WR with ball skills. We’re too small at the position.

None of which are significant injuries…. Think the woe is me mentality is very overblown here about the injuries…. They will have several of those guys back Sunday.

    I agree with this.

None of these injuries looked awful on replay.

I think Benford, Douglas and Rapp make it back.

Historically, Taron Johnson has come back quickly from these things, even last week with Ty Johnson he took a much harder hit and was cleared by Friday all on limited practices.

Bernard I can’t see coming back in one week. Again, it wasn’t some egregious looking ankle sprain though. It rolls, but you don’t see some horrible snap.

Dodson will have to wear a harness and I would expect less than optimum performance, Spector is reported to be ok.

I don’t know about Gabe. If a rolled ankle in Week 2 explained an entire years worth of up and down production (doesn’t explain 2023) then I can see him not making it back for this one too.

I actually feel fairly confident in McDermott's ability to create a defensive game plan that will make good use of the bodies he has.  But so many guys went down, we're not playing backups, we're playing backups backups.

McDermott sounded pretty confident that they had a plan to bring guys into the facility for practice, I hope he's right, because when you can't practice, you have to go with the status quo and our status quo would feature plugging backups backups into roles that don't best suit them (not to mention, it's hard to rehab if you can't get to the facility and work with the trainers)

I think it's a positive that we signed Haack.  Glad he was willing to come in, despite getting cut a couple years back.

It's amazing to me too because going into Miami we were 95% of the team we were opening day minus Matt Milano, and counting Douglas as Tre White.

Since that point we've lost 10-12 people.

    It's absurd.

  13. For the people on ChiefsPlanet, and Bengals fans are like this too, why do they act like they helped build the team?

Like you were in the room convincing Brett Veach to draft Mahomes when he originally had Trubisky on his card.

You're common fans with no impact on the decisions that actually get made on Sunday's.

But like Bengals fans, the entitlement and arrogance just go through the roof.

Chiefs fans say the Raiders ran a 5-2-4 and beat up their OL all game. They don’t think Buffalo has the horses up front to replicate that success, namely one Maxx Crosby.

Then use more DTs and get your hands up to bat passes down.

The Bills couldn't get Rudolph on the ground.

Clearly their OTs are the weakest links of their offensive line.

yep  and didn't Buffalo give the NFL the Chiefs blueprint a few years ago by not blitzing Mahommes at all?

Just play off every WR 29-yards.

    That should work.

  15. 3 minutes ago, Warriorspikes51 said:

Um, No.   Did you see him on the Steelers final drive? He had 2 pressures and would have sacked Rudolph but the pump fake made it look like Mason threw the ball so Von pushed him thinking he needed to avoid roughing the passer. It was a definite sack otherwise.

Umm yes he’s an absolute ghost, yes I saw his one spin move to the inside where he attempted to shove Rudolph and Rudolph escaped and then drew a 15-yard flag on Floyd.

I also saw the “pressure” on Rudolph where he flushed and couldn’t catch him right at the end of the game.

The Bills keep using him as this “closer” and really we’re just playing 10 on 11 when he’s out there.

    He’s done nothing all year.

The Bills weren’t getting pressure on the Steelers, there was no pass rush, so I don’t expect much in Kansas City, but they have been able to bat down balls at the line.

You’re going to need Joseph in there at times against Pacheco, but Phillips gives you 6’6” and can get his arms up.

So listened to Rich Eisen talking about the game, and he noted that when the Chiefs beat the Bills at home the one time they played recently was in 2020 with no fans in the stadium. Might be a bit of a different experience this time.

If he’s limited tomorrow it’s a good first step.

As much as I dislike Nick Wright and think he is a blatant homer...that's not wrong.

This is the worst receiving group the Chiefs have had in some time. They have $70 million more cap space than us next year. They are coming to our house. This seems like the moment to put it all on the line.

    Wow !

    Amazing analysis Nick !

Nobody who follows the Bills and the NFL knew any of this obvious crap before you said this.

mcD did not go into details - he just gave the list and said Bernard has an ankle, will see how it goes.   The presser should be posted shortly.  I believe Wawro interjected “so all day to day” after the long list and McD concurred but I can’t recall exactly how it was all phrased.   After milano and dequans cart-level injuries he said “does not look good” the day after.  He did not say that for Bernard.

That’s how it was last week with the injuries.

The reporter said - so all in the day to day bucket, and McDermott said yes.
