I'll be "get off my lawn guy" and say it: Alcohol ruins the fan experience for so many who just want to go and cheer and watch the game while a bunch of idiots get liquid courage and say and do stupid things that make it uncomfortable for so many people around them that have to endure the stupidity. It is not always like that, but unfortunately, it has been my experience more than not.

    Agreed.

Ironically I hit the beer mug for your post but figured a trophy was more appropriate 😊

Tough position to be in. If we suck then she's a distraction. If we win then she's our lucky charm. I wonder if that's why there's so much secrecy around this relationship. They don't follow each other online, she has to be snuck into the game, they won't publicly acknowledge their relationship, etc. I think a lot of people were hoping he would stay single and focus on football but here we are!

I mean I don't think prior to this (but hey I dont like to assume things about people)  she has any idea of how passionate the Buffalo Bills fanbase is.

Wonder if she somewhat got a hint yesterday

  3. Nice to see Big Dan get a big hit today.  I mean I’m thinking he’s not back next year so a nice memory for him.

One of my first online friends is from Cincy.  Seems this is the first time in forever the Reds won the yearly record 4-2).  Another friend was the clincher in Cincy for the NL East in 2015.

I don’t think I’ll watch any playoff games but yeah I like the Reds.  I’ll follow them a little down the stretch

  4. I've watched this game several times as I think it's like mandatory viewing for Bills fans if they weren't born yet or old enough to appreciate it.

But someone posted a Bills/Raiders game earlier that season where the Bills came back late in the game.  Which was kind of eye opening as the impression I had of the AFC Championship game was it was a formality the Bills would win that day

A lot to catch up on, I'll try to be brief.

I have no interest in revisiting the past. The ship sailed on Terry and Beltran for different reasons but I see nothing good coming from bringing either back. The Collins clip that @Another Fan posted was great - would like to see some of that out of Buck instead of the 'I know better than you' scowl.

I'm interested in why folks think Stearns is the savior. I'm not for or against the guy. I get that he grew up a Mets fan, I love the fact that we wanted him and got him, but he's been with the Brewers for awhile and unless I'm mistaken the Brewers have won one post season series since he was hired in 2015. And now he's in charge of a big market team where those types of results would not make him exalted.

As for Buck, the interesting thing I heard about Stearns is that he inherited Craig Counsell as manager. Not sure if that means anything or not. I can't lobby to keep Buck but at the same time I'm not sure who I'd want to replace him so I'm fine with playing wait and see.

The Brewers are in first place now and will most likely win the central Division.  I mean I don't know for sure but I want to say they are usually a solid team despite operating at a significantly payroll than say the Mets or Yankees.

I agree with you about Stearns.  My issue isnt so much him personally versus how baseball has evolved.  Like for me this year my biggest frustration this year was I don't think Buck pushes/nags/gets on any of the players cases when the results have been well very disappointing this season.  Like the team just walks through the motions.   Hence the nostalgia posting that Terry Collins clip.

But at the same time I'm stubbornly acknowledging this is what the future of the game is and the managers control is shrinking.  So yeah if Stearns is what is needed so be it.  We all want to see the team competitive at the end of the day

Whaaaaaaaat? A trade that finally worked out in the Mets' favor? Did Stearns hold an exorcism or did Cohen pay off the baseball gods?

"Max Scherzer injury update: Rangers pitcher out for rest of regular season, 'unlikely' to pitch in playoffs"

    Lol.

As much as a lukewarm feeling Scherzer left in my mouth, I wouldn’t wish that on him.  Ditto Aaron Rodgers.

Time even kinda caught up with Tom Brady

I think Beltran never seeing the light of day as the Mets’ manager was an absolute blessing.

We’d be making the same exact mistake the Yankees did by hiring someone who’s never coached a little league team, let alone coach in any capacity in MLB.

The Randolph and Calloway debacles proved to me that NYC is not the place for a manager to cut his teeth.

As we’d discussed before, my preference would be Girardi. Or another proven, young(ish) manager.

I wouldn’t cross my arms and stomp my feet if Buck is retained. But I really do think we could do better.

Stearns has been preparing for this role since Cohen bought the team. I am convinced.

I am VERY excited about the future of the team.

I think if Showalter gets another season, that it would indicate that Stearns has his sights set on 2025, but the off-season will tell us more.

Beltran just sort of seems to never really go away does he?  😅

I know you are a skeptic of Johann's no hitter.  Look whose hit caused the controversy.

  8. It was ironically the home opener in Week 2 that year as well.  It’s probably in my top 10 favorite Bills games of all time and one of my favorite endings.

I’ll be the first to admit outside of beating the Patriots next week….  In the grand scheme of things the game itself led to nothing.  But coming back down I believe 3 Touchdowns was real exciting.  As was the final drive and final TD on 4th down.  I think it’s the game Fitz screamed after wards as well.  Was a good time in my life as well starting a new job at the time after months of unemployment.

    I loved Terry.

I’m not sure I’d be thrilled if he came back. But it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

I do think we need more new school than old school, unfortunately.

Is that because you think in general front offices have more power today?

Outside the Mets I don’t really keep aware of what goes on in a broader sense in baseball

Is it just me, or do we have a disproportionate number of opening season heartbreakers? I am not talking just losses; I mean buzzer-beater type losses.

    to name a few:

    1) 2002: also lost on the last play of the game to the jets. Chad Morton 100 yard KO return in OT.

    2) 2004: lost on last play of the game against Jags— big 4th and long conversion, and then Ernest wildfire catches the GW TD with a few seconds left on a force-out call.

    3) 2007: Broncos win on GW FG, where Jason Elam ran onto the field to kick it and the announcers were screaming there wasn’t going to be enough time left.

    4) 2009: McKelvin fumble in the last minute on a KO return, which led to patriots 1-point victory.

    5) 2013: patriots kick GW FG with 4 seconds left to win by 2 points

    6) 2023: jets punt return in OT to win it.

These are just ones in my recent memory. I suspect there are even more….

Off the top my head to counter that they had a few pretty good exciting last minute wins on opening day:

1988 or 1989 Kelly ran in the last TD against the Dolphins with no time left

1995 Bills held off the Patriots deep in their red zone to win

1996 beat the NY Giants in NJ in Overtime.  I remember a great Kelly to Reed TD

2000 beat and hold off the Titans after the Music City Miracle.  The Titans kicker missed at the end of regulation to tie the game

2014 Beat Da Bears in OT.  Freddie had that famous run where he ran over that Bears defender

  11. Did anyone else think that seemed kind of strange and really out of character for him?   He even more than Josh had that sort of Buffalo Bills character of putting your head down and working hard kind of thing.

While Matt is still the man that 15 yard penalty after the interception did prove costly.  The Bills only got a field goal on that drive and a TD might have really iced the game.  That gave the Jets a slight glimmer of hope I thought before halftime.

I know I’m kind of nit picking at that penalty.  But stuff like that,  that video over the summer of Dawkins filming himself throwing Dolphins jerseys on the floor, and Josh’s performance last night kind of leads me to believe the team needs harder and stronger coaching and more discipline than what they have

I've just been checking the scores of late.  I certainly respect you guys/fans that watch the games now for the late calls up but it's hard for me to get excited about them.

Perhaps you've seen this clip but only now I came across it.

I understand I'm really grasping for straws and part of this is nostalgia but I wouldn't mind considering Terry again for manager.  I mean if I recall correctly it felt like his tenure ran its course more than he deserved to be fired?  If the team is going young this is the kind of fiery/passionate manager I'm looking for.  Or has the game been completely overrun by stats at this point

This is my hope for the Buffalo Bills for the 2023 season.  I’d like to say it’s my prediction, but I don’t have a lot of evidence to back it up.  I have a feeling for how the season will go, and I hope I’m right.

I expect the Bills to have a very successful season.  I expect they will win the AFC Championship, and I expect they will win the Super Bowl.  No, I don’t feel that way every season.  I believed it could happen last season, but I didn’t expect it.

So, what’s different this season?   I think the Bills have a new attitude.  I think they’ve stopped reading and listening to all the people who say how great they will be (in part because a lot of people have stopped saying it).

I think they’re, in a word, pissed off.  Okay, two words.  They know they could have won it either of the past two seasons, and they have developed a mindset for winning.  I told you, I don’t have a lot of evidence, but I think that’s where they are.

I think many or most or all of the Bills players have developed an assassin’s mindset.  The Bills are a team full of assets from a Bourne movie – highly skilled, single minded operatives determined to overcome any obstacle to achieve an objective.

Why do I think this?  Well, maybe it’s only because that’s what I want them to be, but I think I hear it, or don’t hear it, in what the Bills are saying.  They’re not talking about their greatness, or what they’re going to achieve, or how they want to do this for Buffalo, or anything like that.   All they’ve really said is that they were enormously disappointed with how they finished the 2022 season.

Allen said the other day the captains are holding everyone accountable.  Diggs is telling his teammates they “stink.”  I fully expect Diggs and Allen are telling Dorsey that he has to give them stuff they can execute and hurt teams with.  Dorsey is demanding that Allen play with the discipline the position requires.  I get the feeling they’re still a touchy-feely family, but there’s an element of tough love now.   Guys like Bernard and Kincaid and Torrence are feeling the pressure, because they can see the excellence and the intensity their teammates are bringing.  They know they must match it.  And in a few weeks, Miller’s coming back, and he’s going to take the focus to a higher level.

In their heads, they know they can beat anyone and they know they can win it all.  They know it.  I think they’re coming into the season determined and with an understanding of what it takes:   Everything, every game.

For example, I think they will beat the Jets.  I don’t know the Jets lineup at all, and I’ve seen all the hype.  I know the Jets will be prepared mentally and emotionally.  I don’t think it will matter.  I expect the Bills to be prepared mentally and emotionally to an extent that the Jets don’t yet understand. The Bills know how to win a marquee game like this, because they’ve won and lost them.  They’ve had a few weeks to get ready.  They will come with preparation and intensity that the Jets won’t match.

When week two comes, the Bills will remind themselves that they know what it takes, and they will be prepared again.  And then week three.  And when December and January and February comes, the determination still will burn in them.  The Bills now understand, they know what they want, and they will not be stopped.

All season long they will come at opponents with the quiet, unstoppable ferocity of an assassin.  Occasionally, something will go wrong, the ball will bounce the wrong way, some team will match their intensity, but the Bills will recover and move on.

    This will be the year.

    GO BILLS!!!

The Rockpile Review is written to share the passion we have for the Buffalo Bills. That passion was born in the Rockpile; its parents were everyday people of western New York who translated their dedication to a full day’s hard work and simple pleasures into love for a pro football team.

Well I mean obviously I hope you are correct as well :)

But it's hard for me to really get all in on them at this point before the bullets start flying so to speak.  The tough love element you speak of I think is needed with this team.  I thought the team burnt out physically and emotionally after all they were through last year.  Milano was one of the few guys I thought that brought it in the Bengals playoff game.  The ultimate test of that to me is how they perform come December/playoff time.  To me that's when the tough love of training camp will pay dividends

  15. It must have been 1991 but I do recall watching clips of a very tight contest between the Bills and Jets from 90/91 at the old Giants Stadium.  I thought it was this game  at first.

The amazing feeling of Nostalgia watching these old games will never get old....what a time to grow up!

By far the most underrated aspect of the Super Bowl teams was the Offensive Line...it's also the thing that makes me the most nervous about our current team going all the way

My neighborhood used to do weekly Bills watch parties and everyone would take a turn hosting, my parents always picked the Night games because then they didn't have to worry about little kids being there and trashing the house LOL...but they always let me stay up and watch the games with the adults and for that I will always be thankful....I can't say I remember if this was a game they hosted or not but I have vivid memories of them hosting the MNF game against Miami the following year

That Marv sideline jacket he is wearing was a STAPLE in WNY for many years.  My childhood best friend had that jacket in kids size and although not really anymore, that is a jacket you would still see people wearing around WNY long after that era was over, maybe even right up until about 10 years ago I can still remember seeing that jacket occasionally make an appearance.

I totally forgot MNF games used to start at 9pm Eastern time....if that was the case today there's no way I would be able to make it through an entire game.  There's times even now I start dozing off by the 3rd quarter if it's not a Bills game

Yeah I recall when Kent Hull died in 2011 it was very bittersweet for me.  As a kid I really couldn't appreciate him then.  By the age I was in 2011 I was able to see how special a player and person he was.  Just too bad  his death was what made me research him like that

  16. While it's not a movie that has the mood of Fall per say, I would say Rocky

The first fight with Spider Rico took place on Thanksgiving in the movie I believe.  If you look at that clip of Rocky running the weather outside seems Fallish as well as when he runs up the steps.  Rocky has on long sleeves and sweatpants but you see no ice or snow on the ground.  Also, the lakes or water he ran by haven't iced up yet.

And oh yeah this is the same focus I expect from Josh and crew Monday night after watching that 😁

This one is tougher than Summer but there's a few movies that stick out for me that really bring out the Fall atmosphere.

    Halloween(original)

    Hocus Pocus

    Mean Girls

    What else?

One of my favorite movies primarily because it had the very very young Jennifer Connelly in it.  But it does remind me of innocence and it does have a fall like atmosphere to it.  Leaves changing on the trees in the background

The house Jennifer lived in in the movie I drive past it’s in Montclair, New Jersey.  Also cool to see Shea Stadium make a cameo in it.

But um just don’t take my man card away now 😊
