  1.

Shady would be my choice...and I'm serious. It's all about the future now

I think it's about this year. People were traded that weren't buying in and that is the way it should be. Stars are needed but they need to be going in the same direction. Shady seems like a guy that will go out and fight for the team.

  2. It blows my mind how quickly folks dismiss qbs.

I think some can be good on this list but we have a good QB. We need a franchise QB though. Luck, Stafford and mostly Newton fit into that category, you either have it or you don't. Carson will last maybe 3 more years before they want a new one and Goff might have delayed his end by Watkins getting traded for otherwise I think this would have been his last.

  3. Crushed is difficult to respond to. He sounds rational but he's perpetually negative. If you notice, he said stockpiling picks to get a an doesn't work and being mediocre doesn't work. His solution is to tank, even though no team in the history of the league has done that. Well, maybe the Colts.

The packers have gotten TWO franchise QBs without tanking. The Psts got theirs withour tanking. Brees went in the second round. Crushers just good at being being negative.

And he accused me of being an optimist. My piece was optimistic only when I said I liked what they're doing. I have no idea if it will work. I think the season and the next seasons depend on what kind of HC McDermott is. My view is that he's 50-50 or worse to be any good.

This is a very good point and needs to be highlighted. We will not become a better team with tanking. The only way we get a franchise QB is if our scouting department finds one. You can draft Peyton Manning, Alex Smith or Jamarcus Russell 1st overall. The "best" qb in the class doesn't mean you have your qb.

  4. Shaw great post and I'd say your spot on.

What excites me the most is for the first time in a long team it appears that the Bills have a plan. We are going to have several options at addressing the QB position next year.

If TT pans out were loaded with picks to build a winner and to your point its going to be with rookie cap friendly contracts.

If we have to go in another direction we can make a serious run at either Kirk Cousins or perhaps Jimmy Garopplo. and again the Bills are loaded with Picks to build a team around them.

Or this Bills can package their stock pile of picks and try to land Darnold, Rudolph, or Rosen.

Dare we say the Bills just won the offseason by setting this team up for the long haul???

Cleveland has stockpiled picks for the past three years. The important thing is what can we do with the assets.

  5. The only reason people are talking about a tank is because of Watkins. Watkins was in the last year of his contract and hasn't shown he can stay healthy, they just eliminated a tough decision and Sammy might not stay anyways. If all we got was a 2nd for that it would have been better than losing Sammy for nothing. Not sure much about Gaines but we will see what happens with him too.

  6. Ok, a bit misleading title I admit. He's there at Brown's practice in Browns Tshirt coaching Garrett. I guess he don't see the same potential in Shaq? He better be worth the hype Brucey.

There is a bit of symmetry for Bruce since he was a DE drafted first overall. I am pretty sure that is his connection. I have no problem with it.

  7. I think offense is the same as far as talent, the defense is a slight downgrade because we are losing depth and replacing Gilmore with a rookie. I think we will perform better though with a better defensive scheme and organization. I hope we are solid on offense, not too confident.

  8. This may be the topic that I feel strongest about that we discuss and for the life of me can't understand the other side. The people generating the revue in every company are the highest paid. It is no different here it's just the numbers are so large we can't wrap our heads around them. Honest question though, do people really believe that the players should be paid less than 48.5% of the money that the NFL makes?!? If you removed all of the players how much money would the league make?

Now we can all squabble about which players deserve which percentage but the argument that players make too much money is beyond asinine. It's totally uninformed. The league wouldn't make $12.5B (or whatever it is) a year without players!!

I understand your side but the owners do take all the risk especially in the NBA plus it's not like their only overhead is the players. They have promotions, ticket sellers, parking lot attendants, maintenance and upkeep, janitors, security, etc. Also this is not the only source of income as some get endorsement deals. I am not fully against the players getting paid more though. If they pay more though they need to figure out how to adjust the salary cap. The Warriors are going to be slammed in a year and you look at a player like Otto Porter that if the Wizards want to keep him they have to 25 million a year with what a $125 million cap? All that for a 12 point a game player.

  9. 12 mill under the cap. They got rid of Mike for no reason

I liked Mike as much as anyone but the overvaluing of what he meant to this team is silly (same with Hogan although we should have gotten something for Hogan). Mike is a backup RB which if Williams stays healthy probably Jonathan would have beat him out anyways. He joins how many RBs in New England?

i'm surprised there aren't any votes for OT. Glenn is not healthy and hasn't even practiced to date and Henderson has some serious issues with his Crohn's disease and use of marijuana as a medical aid (not approved for use by the NFL). that really only leaves Dawkins (rookie) and Mills (terrible). they must be expecting that Kouandijo is going to be suspended for them to cut him from a position group that is so thin.

They have Ola too which has some starts on the right side. Glenn will be back and OT becomes an instant strength

  10. My potential surprise cuts would be Henderson because he doesn't stay healthy and has issues with the good stuff to where he keeps getting suspended and Charles Clay because he makes to much and shows lack of production. Clay could be a difference maker or just a bad mistake of last years coaching staff. I know we are upside down with his contract but it might just be best to move on.

  11. I didn't watch any NO games that I recall last season, but Byrd was reportedly benched. Is the connection purely Gil or do you think he could possibly return to being a ball hawk like he once was? I don't dislike the guy, despite the crap he pulled in his last season here, but I just don't see him being a better option than a healthy Gilchrist. I guess "healthy " is the operative word there.

I am not saying we should bring Byrd in but the Saints were an awful defense and have been for years. I think Byrd might have been a casualty of poor scheme and relying on offense too much.

  12. Congrats to the Bills scouting-- with no home grown talent in the top 100!

This list is a joke. Kyle Williams is not as good a player as Tyrek Hill? That dude had about 10 plays all year. Cordy should be in there as well

Also if JJ Watt and Jordan Reed are on there, there is no reason Watkins doesn't get a spot. Give me Watkins over Jordan Reed any day.

  13. are we comfortable with Sammy, Zay, Holmes going into the season? Sammy still not full participant at practice, Zay unproven, Holmes a career backup. makes me nervous

For a running team that has McCoy I would say yes. Missing Sammy takes a dynamic player out of our offense but adding Decker doesn't solve that if Sammy goes down, Maclin might have. I think we might stay away from Decker.

  14. Not sure this has been posted, but it apparently came down to Ravens v Eagles. The Bills weren't in the running: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/06/12/report-maclins-decision-came-down-to-ravens-eagles/

We have a number one and drafted a number two. Maclin signing at these two places makes sense based on being able to get on the field. Chances are he wasn't up to the task to beat out better receivers.

  15. We did not give up a first round pick in 2014. Giving something up means you don't get it back. We had a first round pick in 2014 and that was Sammy. It was just a different first round pick. We gave up the other first and fourth.

It just comes down to what verb you want to pick.

Yes we did, it ended up in Cleveland along with the other pick that we used to draft Watkins. Literally two first rounders were traded for Watkins pick not sure how you can spin that. Even if you don't agree with that you can say a statement that Dareus cost us a first round pick and it would still be true. Watkins cost us two first rounders. Again Watkins did only cost an additional first round pick than we would have used to draft someone but he does have a value of two first rounders because that is what he cost and he was traded for to us for two first round picks. You can argue how that's not the case but you would be wrong
