  1. What two first round picks did we trade? Lemme guess, our 1st in '14 and our 1st in '15? You can't say that and NOT mention we got ANOTHER 1st round pick in return, from Cleveland; the #4 pick in the '14 draft. That represents a NET loss of ONE first round pick.

Again, and for the final time, saying we TRADED two first round picks for Sammy is not the same as saying we invested two first round picks in drafting him.

This argument was fun for a few minutes a few years ago. I'm officially done with it. Enjoy.

Let me see if this makes sense... we traded our pick in '14 and '15 for the right to the #4 pick in #14 which is what we used to select Sammy Watkins. As all of this is true we traded two first round picks and in return we only got Sammy Watkins. While we technically didn't have a net loss of two draft picks Sammy was worth two first round picks as opposed to one. Might be semantics but he did cost us two first round picks as opposed to staying put and picking our normal pick and that player costing only one pick. You are correct that the net loss is one first round pick but two things are true we traded two first round picks and that is what Sammy cost the Bills.

  2. Here we go again. Now we have the Anti-Rex character guy as HC.

Let's get rid of all guys that aren't toeing the line.

CK was playing at a very high level at LT. You just don't throw those guys away. What is the point of cutting him now? There is not some other bum on the 90 man roster that is a sure fire cut they can get rid of? How about the waste of a space TJ Yates???

Makes no sense unless he has a suspension coming. Even then he would not count against the 53 man number.

We have given total control of the franchise to a career assistant who sounds like Marv the GM. While I doubt he could be worse than Rex, just being anti-Rex will not work either.

They obviously had a better option in Henderson (considering both have personal issues) which could man both sides not just one and Kujo was paid more.

  3. The Bills do not have the cap space to make even entertain the idea of signing him without doing some restructuring.

They do and they gain 4 million more after June1 because of Aaron Williams being released but I think they are trying to maintain youth.

No, they probably don't look at it that way.

That $10.5 mill will be down to around $7 mill or so after they sign their draftees, and the Bills always go into the season with around $6 mill available for them to use on injury replacements.

The Panthers last year had $13 mill unused which they rolled over into this year, so it's not like they spend right up to the cap either.

They could easily cut a guy or two down the line who could clear up some space, but they have very little space available right now.

In any case, guard isn't a big area of need right now.

I could be wrong but I thought that included the draft picks. Also I would look for players like Kouandjio and Henderson getting the boot. That would be almost 3 million.

  4. It could really go one of two ways. We either see the talent displayed brightly and the offense and defense click as opposed to one side or the other the past 15 or so years and we make the playoffs or we lose 10+ and start dropping bad contracts and rebuild. Optimistically I say we are the first team and not the second but I am ready for the rebuild. I think the only way Kyle stays this year is if he is promised the winning he hasn't experienced yet.

  5. signing people without having a GM shows you don't really need one

I think it just shows we are moving on and doing what needs to be done. They need a GM

    Anyone questioning McD's power now?

On bringing in depth for training camp while we are making sure we hire the right GM? He's not exactly a guy we invested a lot of money in.

  6. No, which is why I don't like or agree with how Pegula is running things. He may be right and this works out. I really hope it does. i just disagree. Many of us prefer a strong GM who has full control of the team, including hiring the coach.

It has worked in New England and I am in no one comparing Belichick with McDermott. I really think that it depends the situation as to whether it works one way or another.

  7. I think there is more thought put into this process than most people thought initially. If this was Beane's job he would have gotten it after Trey Brown's interview. Pegula's MO means we should see at least one or two more interviews (usually 5 to 6 interviewed) and while there probably is an early favorite it won't be handed to Beane. Veach might not want the job but he probably would be one if he did and Wolf might be in the same boat.

and will this future GM be allowed to fire the head coach?

Not that the positions are mutually exclusive but was Whaley ever able to hire and fire his own coach?

  8. I read that Kendricks may be available via trade. I think our biggest hole is at weakside LB. We could really use an athletic guy there who has started before in the NFL. Would it make sense to offer up Preston Brown (who had his best season under Schwartz and is on an expiring contract) and a later round pick for Kendricks?

I've heard that McDerm uses a lot of two LB sets so it would be Ragland and Alexander with Preston backing up. Not sure either would agree to that trade.

  9.

That is where I am. I think, McWrestler essentially wants a head scout to do a detailed job collecting and processing information so he can make the calls, though, so maybe the lack of track record or GM experience is actually right for the job. What confuses me is how contracts will be handled and who will be accountable there.

There were various hints they had used a search firm during the HC search, so they may in fact be doing the same for GM. They also seemed to be putting some weight on the NFL Career Development Advisory Panel candidates for HC jobs. I don't know who was on their GM list, but it's possible they're making use of that as well. Unofficial adviser, Polian would be my guess.

I'm thinking that the interview process is more or less a formality and Beane is the man.

I'm not convinced. We don't even know if Beane and McDerm like or talk to each other. You might be able to assume that by us interviewing him but who knows.

  10. Is Seymour a roster lock? The new staff (and FO, if you will) has no allegiance to him. Outside of Darby and White, I wouldn't be surprised if it's open competition

I think Seymour would have been starting had they not drafted White. I see good coverage skills and McDermott I think will like it too.

  11. So, is this the 3rd GM candidate the Bills have interviewed now?

Him, Beane and Gaine are the only 3 I've heard of.

Wonder if they will interview that Bret Veach from KC.

I kind of feel like it's a foregone conclusion that Brandon Beane is our next GM though.

If the Sabres search is in any indication we should see at least 2-4 more. Veach is probably one, someone from Pitt and maybe someone from GB.

  12. The whole idea was minorities were never considered because they never got these jobs. It's certainly better today but it doesn't hurt to encourage interviewing more people.

I personally thought it should be the best candidate for the job. Most teams that do the token don't give the minority interviewed a chance because they already have made up their mind.

  13. Why do people think Logan Thomas will contribute as a tight end, this year?

He is quite the wild card. He has played Tight End in High School and a little in college so it isn't completely foreign to him. I bet they will have packages for him this year but man if he catches the ball he will bulldoze the defensive players. He would have been drafted in the first round as a tight end if the Hokies didn't need him as a QB so bad.

  14. You mean as in Marv was a delegator who let his coordinators run both the offense and defense themselves and let his GM get him players just like McD wants total control and runs his defense and wants to be in the offense and demands he picks his players himself?

I'm not sure where you heard he wants total control.
