Lamar holds records that Josh does not, and he's a two time MVP. No one is trying to take anything away from Josh, but there's more than one great player in the league.

The interesting thing is Lamar didn't deserve the MVP when he got it, you could make the argument he should have got it last year but Allen is truly the most valuable player to his team especially last year.  Lamar has the running ability but as far as passing I would be hard pressed to find a passer of Allen's ability.  The last 7 minutes of that Ravens game was surgical.

Could be.  It could be one of these things, if all the WR s are healthy, then Samuel sits because the #5 WR needs to play ST.  But if someone is hurt, then Samuel plays and likely has more snaps than Moore.

Can't cut Samuel so he might be inactive a lot unless we can somehow trade him

Maybe you should have signed an NFL contract instead.

It would be worse advice to risk getting injured on an expiring low-value contract as has happened with countless NFL players. This is about money.

Of course it's all about money.  What if the Bills see his holdout and decide to give him nothing?  He is not doing himself any favors

We have to remember when Diggs created all that drama and how they marginalized him in the offense.  I hope Diggs is enjoying his time with the Patriots and Drake Maye.  There is definitely one loser when Cook decided to post that 15 million number and it is Cook.

In a sports league like the NFL when players outplay their contracts, especially their rookie contracts, as no one really knows what each player is worth until they show it on the filed, it is extremely common practice to rip up the old contract, as it does not reflect the player's actual worth.

James Cook is one of those players who has significantly outplayed his contract. The NFL is very different from the army, as you hopefully know.

It would be nice if we could legitimately compare our type of everyday workman 'contracts' to those of NFL players, but we can't realistically do that.

And I don't believe it is legal to 'get a rifle but" slammed into your head by your superiors in either the military or the NFL. If this has happened to you, sue them.

I had a twisted drill sargeant in basic training at Fort Knox, but the worst she did to me was make me do 20 pushups to the wind (often).

What does  that even mean. This is the craziest mindset.  We overpay these players too much and they don't "deserve" the money they always seek.  Even if dude outplayed his contract he probably would have gotten a new contract if he didn't go over the top with his ask.  This isn't good for the future if we give in now he will want that new contract ripped in  another year or two

Can you imagine Josh Allen with Higgins

and Chase? It would seriously be hilarious. He would throw for like 600 yards every game.

Joe Burrow is great, but let’s see what he would do throwing it to Curtis Samuel and company.

Would never work.  Allen with a Diggs ends up being drama.  This offense is not focused on one person.  Meaning the Me, Me, Me mindset does not work.  Allen is a star but is not a prima donna, if he was I bet he would have been traded already.

Neither has Cook. But they said a lot more on social media.

I'm sorry but this hold in garbage needs to be squashed.  They do it not to lose money.  I think it's more harmful than a holdout.  Hyde was never like this.

From what I can tell, Beane and his team have a plan for what every position it worth and they try to stick to that.

Safety is an example, and a position they view like RB. Even with 2 All-Pro Safeties, they never got more than $10M/yr. Even with all the squawking they and their wives did in social media, and the short term deals that they renegotiated.

Same with MLB. Not a premium position. Bernard gets $10M/yr.

Yet those guys never held out too.

Be careful what you wish for. He's the only truely explosive skill player on the offense (Allen aside of course). We don't have a chance at the end of the KC game without his 4th down play. Any decent RB doesn't make that play and the threat of Cook certainly helps the passing game. Now, we have a comparable signing 3/$33m so expect and extension shortly

At best Josh Jacobs is comparable and I bet the Bills might even do that.  Pretty sure Cook isn't settling for less than 15 million.  He thinks he is better than Kamara and Taylor lol

Cook is a bit better but that’s a good baseline. 12.5-13 million is the highest I’d go with Cook.

Cook isn't better, he has a better line.  We swap out Cook with Davis and we won't miss a beat.  Davis has been a better receiver and harder runner.  Cook is screwing it up by asking for too much.

Cook is better and has produced in the postseason. Why are you so reluctant to give him a couple million more to make him feel wanted?  Penny pinching while we went over the top on the D-line. You guys deserve the mediocrity we’ve dealt with since Thurman.

They are already in Salary Cap trouble with better RBs in the backfield than Cook.

There's some market inefficiencies to take advantage of here.

    First, let's set the stage:

In 2018, the salary cap was 177M. In 2025, its 279M.

In 2018, one of the best RB's of his era, Todd Gurley, who was second in MVP voting signed a massive extension.

That extension was 4 years for 57M.  An AAV of of $14M. 21M guaranteed at signing (with more guarantees later if he made the team). A record setting contract.

Those numbers, TODAY, would make him the 4th highest paid running back in the league. So when we are talking about a Cook extension, and how that fits in the salary cap, just remember, he is asking for a little more than 2018 Todd Gurley money with a $100M more in salary cap space.

Now, of course, other contracts have been inflated. QBs make more than ever. WR's make more than ever.

Odell Beckham set the WR market in 2018. He signed a 5 year, 95M deal, with 18M AAV and 41M in GTD.

in 2025, that would make him tied for the 20th highest paid WR, right next to Christian Kirk (who inked his deal in 2022). The guarantees are even close, with Kirk getting $37M over 4 years of his deal.

So what conclusions can we draw from this?

Nothing that we didn't already know. The NFL at large has decided that running backs aren't valuable and that WR's are crazy valuable.

However, I would argue that this points to a strategy to take advantage of NFL decision-making at large. In a league where there is 1 winner and 31 losers, you don't want to follow the pack.

I suggest the Bills SHOULD meet Cook in the middle if he would take $15M AAV.  We don't have a WR worth $30M. We aren't sure we ever will, and we aren't sure that we would pay them even if we did.

I would also suggest the Bills should NEVER pay a WR anything ever. There is no point in playing in a market where JAGs or good players are having their value this inflated. I don't know where the WR carousel ends, but I don't want to be on it when it does.

The reason the market has been so inflated is because of the RB.  Should not have to pay Cook as a top3 RB if he has not proved it yet.  He needs to show that he can carry the offense without Josh Allen to be in that range.
