  1. Far be it for me to complain but it does make you wonder.

Why is Hodges available to us this late.....why is he available at all?

Not sure either but it's only a average signing. Some here make him out to be TKO.

In 54 games the guy averages 4 tackles a game and has career 3.5 sacks. From a number standpoint that is very bland or average.

Hopefully Z.B or Lorax 2.0 for us.

  2.

I totally agree. The idea that the Bills' low talent retention rate is because of anything except the product of FO incompetence doesn't fit the facts. The Bills have sucked at drafting, especially in the first two rounds, since John Butler and AJ Smith left for San Diego after the 2000 draft. It has absolutely nothing to do with changing coaching schemes sending lower round picks packing.

The Bills have drafted the following in the first and second rounds since 2001:

    2001: 1- Nate Clements (#21), 2- Aaron Schobel (#46)

    2002 1- Mike Williams (#4), 2- Josh Reed (#36)

    2003 1- Willis McGahee (#23), 2- Chris Kelsay (#48)

    2004 1- Lee Evans (#13), 1 - JP Losman (#22)

    2005 2 - Roscoe Parrish (#55)

    2006 1 - Donte Whitner (#8), 1- John McCargo (#26)

    2007 1 - Marshawn Lynch (#12), 2 - Paul Posluszny (#34)

    2008 1 - Leodis McKelvin (#11), 2- James Hardy (#41)

    2009 1 - Aaron Maybin (#11), 1 - Eric Wood (#28), 2 - Jairus Byrd (#42), 2 - Andy Levitre (#51)

    2010 1 - CJ Spiller (#9), 2 - Torrell Troup (#41)

    2011 1 - Marcell Dareus (#3), 2 - Aaron Williams (#34)

    2012 1 - Stephon Gilmore (#10), 2 - Cordy Glenn (#41)

    2013 1 - EJ Manuel (#13), 2 - Robert Woods (#41), 2 - Kiko Alonso (#46)

    2014 1 - Sammy Watkins (#4), 2 - Cyrus Kouandijo (#44)

    2015 2 - Ronald Darby (#50)

    2016 1 - Shaq Lawson (#19), 2 - Reggie Ragland (#41)

The outright busts: Williams, Losman, McCargo, Hardy, Maybin, Troup, Manuel, Kouandijo. That's 8 total wastes from 30 picks in Rounds 1 & 2 between 2001 and 2014, which is almost 27%. That, boys and girls, is abysmal drafting.

One striking thing about the list is the number of players who had physical questions about their health when they were drafted. Mcgahee, McCargo, Troup, Kouandijo, and Lawson all fit that category. Of the veterans, only Mcgahee worked out. We'll see about Lawson.

Another striking fact is how many of the guys who actually did work out, some of them Pro Bowl players, the Bills either let walk or sent packing in their primes. That would include Clements, McGahee, Lynch, Posluszny, Byrd, Levitre, Gilmore, and Woods. Certainly the most egregious example of this is Marshawn Lynch.

If you think that the Bills haven't made the playoffs in 17 years for any reason other than front office incompetence, I have a sllightly used but recently rehabbed bridge over Chautauqua Lake that I'd like to sell you.

As for the new administration, they'll have to prove themselves before I fall for OBD's shell game again.

You realize almost 70% of players drafted miss right? My biggest problem with your list is the high draft picks we used and later let walk whom were good that sets everything back further and further. You have to waste more high picks to replace them. See Gilmore... the cycle goes on and on.

  3. Whaley had nothing to do with the draft. I will never believe that he did. The Bills are publicly doing him a favor. We drafted multiple players that visited Carolina but not us. We drafted from schools that Whaley didnt typically draft from, and ignored schools that he typically liked (FSU, Clemson). We drafted a QB with a relatively weak arm. It was nothing like a Whaley draft, and we are better off for it.

Agreed, If Whaley was in charge of this draft he prob would have taken Mahomes. We will see how this turns out in the next 3-4 years.

  6. Yep. I don't buy any hype anymore.

    Only time will tell.

100% in the same boat. This coaching staff honestly means nothing to me at this point and time, and will remain so until we start consistently winning or at least playing fully competitive games without the boneheaded mistakes.

Accountability, proper play calling, clock management and situational "spot on" football decisions are all that matter to me.

People already raising the cup for a rookie HC and GM are really head scratching to me at this point and time knowing what this club has endured through the years. I guess I lost my full optimism in this team until we have a real QB. This coaching staff will be handed the same fate as all prior unless TT magically turns into a pocket QB or we get one.

  7.

Humber and PB can rotate in... the 2 rookies as well. Its not a bad position all things considered.

I'm more concerned about the DE depth at this stage.

    Not a bad signing overall.

Much more worried about our JV secondary. If we don't get constant QB pressure as well though this current secondary will get absolutely torched all day.

  8. In my opinion the weakness of the draft played into Whaley's thinking. Look Watkins hasn't become elite , if he did we wouldn't be having this conversation. Do Falcons fans complain about the A.j. green trade ?

I know you meant JJ. and I guarantee the Falcons fans were complaining like little Nancies here do non-stop.

JJ had the exact same injury and missed similar time and posted similar stats in the exact tenure with a much more superior QB. Let's see what Watkins does this year when fully healthy.

  9. There is an irony here. When he finally came to the realization that he needed to use a high draft pick on a qb he lost his authority to select one in this year's draft. I believe that he wanted to draft either Mahomes or Watson in the first round. It was too late because he was no longer making those decisions for the organization.

I never understood his passivity on the qb issue. In the end he sabotaged himself by not being aggressive enough in addressing the qb issue.

Because of the fixation on Tyrod Taylor amounting to something he most likely never will become. Whaley knew/Knows this and would have drafted a QB round1 this year if in control. It will be interesting to see what Mahomes will become in the league and if this franchise made a huge cluster F at the position like so many years in the past by ignoring it.

  10. Transplant?

Why does it bother you so much that many, many fans think Tyrod is not the answer at QB? You can post other peoples article/stats for days, they mean squat when people have already formed a opinion of what Tyrod is. All you really need is your 2 friggin eyes to form one and to have watched the Bills the last 2 seasons. Just let Tyrod fight the fight and make us change our minds. You posting Pro-Tyrod threads non-stop on BBMB and here is not swaying anyone.

  11. I would say, unfortunately, yes. How many Super Bowls have they played in over the last 15 years? That's not just a function of a poor division. They have been hammering everyone for a long time.

I get that the Pats handle their own business. A poor division that hands a team 6 wins equals #1 playoff seed in the AFC (6th times to be exact). That helps a already great team out tremendously, either way this is a topic/thread in it's own.

  12. NE being in the same division is also a big reason for the playoff drought.

Can agree it def does not help but to me it's a easy excuse for us Bills fans to use.

Pats are great team and we all agree on that. Would the Pats be as good the entire Brady Era say if the Bills had Brees as their starter that entire tenure? Lets say the Jets or Miami also had a real QB as well would the Pats be GOAT?

I say no, the AFC East flat out sucks handing the Pats 5 -6 wins a year for way to long now.

Think about this: How much better would have Miami been with Marino if the Bills did not have Kelly and the Bills sucked in the 90's like the Pats?

  13. So, based on my personal point of view, it seems there are two different types of Bills fans on this forum.

    1. Fan's that want to win
    2. Fan's that want a QB

Pretty much got is right but wrong at the same time.

    1. Fans that want to win with no QB

    2. Fans that want a QB so we can win again

It really that simple. We have been lacking a franchise QB for almost 20 years now, going onto 18 years with no playoffs. Most fans Identified the true issue after 5 years with our club in the early 2K era, while others are still lost and want the "win now" and be a one and done Playoff seed loss team. The win now mentality Is exactely what has been done at OBD for the entire drought setting us back further and further.

To all their own, we are all here as we all want to win.

I personally have been saying we desperately need and still need a franchise QB since the 04 draft. I can get comments all day saying "Yeah, cause franchise QB's grow on trees right?" That is the most stupid mentality about the position I read. The thing that is funny to me is the "get a franchise QB" Bills fans are right 100% plain and simple, look at our records the last 17 years and try to dispute otherwise if you can.

  14. he most certainly could out perform 4-5 starters. But those starters are young. Or they're vested in a high salary designed for their offense. And those qbs ain't moving.

Kaepernick could realistically start on 1 team tomorrow by our performing their starter, and that would be the Jets. No one team would have a worse qb situation. Houston may come close.

Jets media loves to destroy their qb. Other than Fitz. He would be fried

    Bills

    Jets

    Houston

    Jags

    Browns

    49'ers

    Bears

    Broncos

He can most likely beat out every starting QB on the following teams.

  15. They got rid of a half dozen of their most talented players.

They kept a painfully mediocre QB.

    They have a first-time HC.

    They have a first-time GM.

They are facing their toughest schedule in recent memory.

This is, indeed, a rebuild. And it's about goddamn time.

At least with Beane being hired, it seems that McBeano will be the tandem for a few years to come.

I'd expect (pray/hope/beg for) a new QB next year and serious aspirations for a playoff run in 2019.

    SPOT on!
