  1.

Except I didn't say that at all...but thanks for trying.

I know you added a ton of jumble F in between.

Here's your post summarized "To write off Taylor write now is absurd but draft one next year in case I'm wrong" How long are we supposed to wait on a QB, 20years?

Myself and many others disagree 100%. There is no need to spin the wheels on TT again, that has been done over and over again in numerous other threads. The topic is about drafting our next QB -- When and where?

  2.

Well considering the Broncos won the SB 2 years ago with the lowest rated QB in the NFL and the single worst QB performance in SB history by a winning SB QB, I think you're grossly over exaggerating our QB scenario. TT is better than what the QB's did for the Broncos on their way to a SB title. Yes, the guy who won was one of the greatest, but he was also a shell of himself and played awful all season and in the SB. Heck, he damn near lost his job permanently to Brock, who is beyond awful.

The Bills in TT 15 starts last year, had the 3rd most TD's in the entire NFL behind only Atlanta and the Saints. We scored 25 points or more in 10 of those games. We lost 6 of our 8 games under TT by 6 points or less. Our defense in the 15 games outside the fluke week 4 Pats game with no Brady, Jimmy, or Gronk was 26th in the NFL in points allowed.

QB and scoring are not our biggest issue. And to add to all that, we scored all those points with mostly scrubs at WR all year as Sammy was really only healthy for a game or two. We lost McCoy for all or part of 3 games, we lost our best OL for multiple games, we changed OC's 2 weeks in, and Clay missed some time too. Yet we still managed with inept coaching to be one of the highest scoring teams in the NFL.

Think about this...in 4 seasons now TT has had 4 different OC's. Balt, then 2 in his first 2 years here, now Dennison. Add that to all the injuries to his skill players, himself, the OL, etc to see what he has had to overcome and do so under an inept coaching staff. Yet in his 2 seasons as a starter, he still managed to make the Pro Bowl twice, be lethal on the ground, and lead the Bills to the highest scoring 2 year period outside only the first 3 SB years.

To write off Taylor write now is absurd. There are things he must improve on clearly, but there is also a lot he has done well despite all that was working against him. And I have said this before, do NOT underestimate TRUST for a QB, especially one who is prolific running with the ball. Its crystal clear the only WR he really trusts is Sammy the last 2 years. When Sammy is healthy, he makes throws to him he doesn't attempt with the other guys. When a guy like TT doesn't have the same confidence, trust, or timing with his other WR's then it makes him quicker to pull the ball down and make a play with his feet. He needs to fix that for sure, but I think if he can build more trust and rapport with this new group of WRs that already look like a nice upgrade, not to mention a healthy Sammy (hopefully), then I think that will help him tremendously on seeing the field better. His biggest issue with seeing the field is pulling the ball down to quickly and looking to make a play with his feet.

Again, he has a lot to work on, no doubt. But, there is reason to be optimistic to see what he can do with this new staff and new selection of weapons. If he doesn't get it done, then we can go all out next year on a QB and put that young QB on a more talented roster assuming we addressed our more pressing needs this draft.

If we do draft a QB, I will root hard for the kid to succeed obviously, I just personally think our QB situation still has upside and that there are better choices early in this draft than the crop of QB's coming out.

You could have saved a lot of time and just said Tyrod Taylor is your guy.

Many, many Bills fan disagree, myself included. He a stop gap QB whom we need a future replacement for. Where and when we draft that next QB is the huge dilemma.

  3. I get the value and the need of finding The Guy, but we don't have even one chance per year realistically of finding him. I know there's people on here who say draft a guy every year, but if you do that, you never really give any of then a chance to develop and see what you have. So my question is, if you take a guy in the first this year, does it mean you don't take a guy in the first next year. I think it does. I think that's a career ender for the GM as everyone would say the first guy was a wasted pick. So if this year's crop are 10% and you think next year has two or three 20-25% guys, I think you have to pass this year.

Second, if you think a QB has a 10% chance of becoming a Franchise guy, is that percentage the same everywhere he goes? Does the QB have the same chance of success in Cleveland or NYJ or Buffalo as he would in Houston or Dallas? There is definitely value in building other areas of the team to maximize your guy's chances of developing into the Franchise guy. Depending on the environment, that guy you call a 10% might be a 5% or a 20% guy. Since your shots at acquiring the guy are limited, I want t ogive him the best shot possible.

It's a judgment thing. You have a limited budget of draft picks/time and far more needs/wants than any team can fill. All that being said, I'd love to the Bills take a QB, because I don't think any other position would give me as much excitement and hope. Yeah, it'll almost definitely be the wrong guy, but I'll buy my ticket and ride the ride.

Agree, you have to have the O-line established and a decent running game helps.

Look how the Texans destroyed a former Carr. That dude took the biggest pounding every year, I never looked it up but assume he was one of the most sacked QB's in NFL history over that Texans time span.

  4. "all" our half decent players  Hyperbole much

Clearly I've stated why they don't "need to," but they are in their own universe right now.

Hogan - Will go over 1K receiving yards and makes the Pro bowl

Gilly - 1200 all purpose yards and makes the Pro bowl

Gilmore - 8 picks, top 5 corner and makes the Pro bowl.

Whatever BB Pats touches turns to gold mang......

    Pats win Super Bowl LII

My Cleo is strong... Yeah MoN!

  5. It caught me off guard as I'm a Watson fan but maybe 3 throws in I noticed and then it kept happening. I get the idea of taking chances and I know it is Williams' highlight but I left it really impressed with him and not so much Watson.

Agree all around on WIlliams. He has outstanding focus and adjusts great to the ball. Some team and QB in the NFL will get legit talent no doubt. Def. a top 20 pick this year IMO.

  6. I had the exact opposite takeaway. almost every catch in that reel was a poorly thrown ball that Williams beat the corner for. There was a lot of throws that you won't get away with in that video imo.

It must be the jumble F in my brain of Tyrod having no faith in his WR's the last 2 years and only throwing to them wide open. As a QB you have to have faith in your WR's making a play. IDK, not huge on Watson by any means but the dude is a winner and should speak volumes.

  7. I was on here yesterday lamenting the cb recycle thing and a couple of very decent, long-time posters here were perfectly fine with it. It made sense to them to get a quality cb on the cheap since we let Gilmore walk. I surmise they also think Taylor is better than I do.

I guess it really comes down to that though. How much faith some fellow fans have in Tyrod? Mine is unfortunately low, I will still root my arse off for the team this season though.

I have no problem with recycling players in the draft if cap room $$$ is tight and we have a stud behind center taking a good chunk of that cap.

  8. A stop gap QB for peanuts? Yeah, that's a good find. TT may have been the second best FA QB this decade.

This is about our former backup RB.

If you think TT is the best FA the Bills have signed in 10 years please show me why in another thread.

Run game importance of units to Bills:

    1. Taylor......keeps defenses out of the backfield with fear of gashing them with big runs or big passes in broken field if he breaks contain......allowing Bills relatively slow developing blocking game to get into blocks and open huge holes.....Bills backs lead NFL in yards before contact.

    2. The Runnin' Bax.......McCoy and MG are both good.......MG hasn't proven he can carry a huge load, but hasn't proven he can't either.......and he is the better fit in new scheme and the more versatile player.

    3. The OL......these guys are not much above average as a collection of parts but are propped up big time by a running QB that can stretch the field with deep vertical throws and two backs that can take the ball to the house. Without Taylor they struggle getting into blocks prior to penetration.

    1. This is simply a false Bills fan myth. It takes what 1 second to hand the ball off and another second for the RB to hit the LOS correct? if you call 2 seconds slowly developing a hole your very mistaken.

    2. MG can't hold McCoy's jock strap. MG is a completely different change of pace back to McCoy. One that throws the opposing D off after taking numerous snaps against one of the premiere running backs in the league.

    3. See #1. the OL is average at pass protection but top 5 hands down in the league at run blocking. Selling the line short whom dominate at run blocking is sad man.

  9.

The fact that you imply that Taylor wasn't a ridiculously good find....or a "gem in a trash heap"........tells me how unrealistic your expectations are.

Franchise he's not but realistically you might have to go back to Kurt Warner nearly two decades ago to find a better such out of nowhere second-hand QB find.

If you call a stop gap QB a good find that assessment is problem #1 between us and we disagree 100% on it.

Where did Gilly come from and where is Los now?

The O-line and McCoy make this run game go, not LoS or Gilly. Some fans on this forum are funny and way over reach on every single topic. J Williams and another late Rd pick this year will do just fine.

We lost our back-up running back so "lets trade one of our better Defensive players for a 1st rd pick and draft RB in Round1"

  10. Really, really hope the MT slips to 10, we wake up from this train wreck nightmare and draft him.

It would def. be a very early Xmas present for me.

BUT, the Billsy thing to do will be drafting a DB (to replace the former 1st rd 10th pick from 2012) and letting him walk after 4-5 years cause we don't want to pay for the production we drafted him at. I can already see it coming.

  11. Gratz to Gilly and the Pats. He will be their 1a/1b RB and I hope he does well against everyone but us.

I'm very confident J.Will will perform as good if not better than Gilly. Whaley has proven he can find gems in the trash heap on this position, I just wish he could do this with the QB position.

  12. IF MG leaves, obviously RB is now a weakness. IF a team is willing to give up a 1 for Hughs, would you trade him to get back into the 1st round to draft a top 3 rb? I mean I'd give up Hughs for a 1 immediately regardless. But in this scenario strictly just for a RB.

So trade a starting (cusp pro bowl player) QB nightmare for a backup RB?

OP, you don't see the problem here with your logic?

  13. You are right that the running game is Buffalo's identity. That's one of the main structural problems for this antiquated franchise because a ground and pound approach to the game is archaic in the modern NFL. No one can dispute the fact that the Bills are one of the best running teams in the league. What does that limited approach to the offense get you? Certainly not enough wins, especially against good teams.

The reality is that an emphasis is placed on the running game out of necessity. It is done in order to mask the limitations of its qb/s. It seems to not have occurred to the geniuses who run the football operation that by upgrading the qb position you will also in effect be upgrading a multitude of positions.

The Bills have not had a legitimate franchise qb for over twenty years. The reluctance to take a meaningful action to address the most important issue that has crippled this franchise has gotten beyond being perplexing to the point of being weird.

Great post man :) I 100% agree with you.
