What this actually reminds me of is the Comeback Year. The Bills looked like they’d missed their window and had an injured starting quarterback but a miracle comeback against the Oilers propelled them to their third straight Super Bowl coming out of an AFC that wasn’t at a high point.

That year is very comparable. When I’m not feeling great, I watch the games alone.

That was the other year where I watched all of the games alone. I was a senior in HS. My brother and his friends kept calling the house and laughing historically on the answering machine at half time.

    The calls stopped after that.

How'd you debunk it, was it not really Thompson playing?  Marino resurrected in disguise.

Sounds official, but only if a state-of-emergency is declared.

You aren’t allowed to drive during a SOE so the game would be moved or delayed.

I simply can’t find the posts (plural because I said it a few times), but I honestly said this team could finish 11-6 and be better than last year’s 13-3 team.  I also said I would take this year’s team.

That’s not a pat on my back.  It’s a pat on theirs.

    Go Bills!

Remember all of the 3rd and longs that defense gave up last season? Fixing that alone has made us a much better team.

I agree 100% but that's a far cry from the out of gas excuse people want to peddle.

Thanks! I thought I would get a lot of negative feedback.

Just wondering how good do you think this team is now?

This team scares me because it's so inconsistent. They can be really good or really bad. Even during this winning streak they haven't really been too impressive.

I think that right now, this team is 10 times better than last year entering the playoffs.

I think it’s important to recognize what wasn’t said last season. McD and Frazier were playing so far “off” on defense because they had no other choice. We didn’t have nearly enough healthy horses on defense down the stretch. I simply think they chose a slow death instead of a quick one in that Bengals game. Playing more aggressive would’ve been a worse result.

I'm not buying that for one minute John. I know many here want to buy into that narrative.

Prior to the game there was never any indication that the team was empty, had nothing left, couldn't focus, drained, life less, psychology spent, etc...

Not once did I hear, read, or see anything remotely close that indicated they had nothing left.

In fact, the narrative in many instances was a complete 180. Many were saying this was a team of destiny. Signs galore win one for Damar. Damar was at the stadium! What a boost it would give the team and fans. Frenzied home crowd advantage.

Bengals oline a shell of itself. The Bills would crush Burrow.

Where was this nothing left in the tank theory? Didn't even hear any scuttlebutt about this.

Even after the Miami game, what was the resounding theme. Gutted out a win even though they played poorly. Resilient team. Gotta play better. Nada about being flat or running out of football fuel. Not a peep. Did you hear anything?  I heard was how McD was out coached. That was crystal clear.

Prior to the game please go back on this message board and find me a poster who felt like the Bills would be flat, out of gas, unable to compete, etc ... I'll save you some time. It doesn't exist because the narrative was created after the fact. After they shi! the bed

A narrative created after the fact that saw a Bengals team buzz saw through the termite infested Bills team. A coaching staff that had no game plan after getting waxed in a dress rehearsal weeks before. To this day, I have no idea what they were thinking.

McD had to create this thesis to save face. His team was clearly unprepared, outclassed, and taken to the wood shed. Dorsey was as lost as ever. Frazier was as lost as ever. McD was as lost as ever. It was utter incompetence staying us in the face. Hard to swallow after the previous year's 13 second disaster. Trust your eyes not a false narrative.

    Go Bills!!!

Exactly right. The only thing I’d add is the team just wasn’t very good. We knew that during the first Bengals game.

The Bills have had one of the best rosters in the league for several years but haven't ultimately achieved the successes they're capable of. I do respect what McDermott has done for the franchise and his helping to change the team's culture. I however also believe he's been holding the team back in clutch moments by making crucial decisions that end up losing games. I believe in some ways that he bit off more than he could chew by deciding to be both head coach and defensive coordinator. If this team fizzles out again in the playoffs and loses to an inferior opponent, due to more bad and or stupid decisions, should Beane think about going after Belichick? Imagine where he could take this loaded team with a franchise quarterback and elite defense. We could even keep McDermott on as defensive coordinator if he'd be willing to stay. No hard feelings Sean, but Bill's proven legacy when he's had elite talent speaks for itself. These are certainly things a great owner or GM should be considering. A man can dream can't he?

McD is definitely a roadblock standing in the way of the player’s success week to week it seems.

It’s a lot like a video game. Josh is player 1 and has to fight his way through a tough level only to find out that he has to beat the big boss at the end, who happens to be McD, before he can go to the next level.

  7. Vrabel should probably go to the NFC. His style of football would wreck most of those teams if he had the right personnel.

The Giants should fire Daboll and hire Vrabel before Washington does but we know they won’t. Very tempting though.

I think there is a portion of TBD that hate McDermott so much that they want a loss on Sunday.

Oh no. I hate the Steelers most of all. I never forgave them for knocking all of our starters out in a preseason game years ago.  That was totally uncalled for. Bill Cowher is human excrement.

Browns are the most overrated team I can remember in recent playoff history lol. Defense has been great but the Flacco story is so feel-good that nobody is really looking into what he’s been doin too closely.  Obviously it’s not a cakewalk straight up but as far as who you’ll run into in the second/third round of the playoffs that’s about as easy as it’s gonna get.  That chiefs defense is not terribly far behind Cleveland’s and their offense has a lot more upside.  Baltimore is right there in defense and their offense is much better as well

I think we’d be a 7 point favorite against Cleveland

Have you watched those games? I watched 2 of them and that dude is on steroids, hgh, or some brand new age altering drug.

He’s faster. His arm is actually stronger. He also has zip on the ball, which he never had in his younger years. Totally different guy.

Perhaps he was injured his last few seasons as starter and he needed to heal? Dunno.

It's superbowl or nothing for him. Enough is enough.

We will see Governor.  Personally I hope against all hope I am dead ass wrong and he wins the superbowl this year.

We need to somehow avoid the Browns. They would flatten us.

If we make it,  I think we would beat SF. I would like to see Detroit but it probably won’t happen.

  11. For McD to be safe, an AFC championship game appearance is mandatory, but I could live on with him losing that game, unless he personally lost it by himself.

If we lose to the Steelers,McDermott has to go.  It's a further regression.  Affcc, then 2 division losses. 1. He blows 13 ******* seconds and 2. The team was flat as hell against Cincinnati .

This would be a Wildcard loss AT HOME.  He has to be fired.

This team is much better than last year. That team really sucked, and Frazier was a disaster.

Then don’t speak in hyperbole. You called it “a kneel to the left.” That wasn’t the play call.

That play has been very successful for them in the past. It gives them an extra blocker and puts the ball in your best player’s hands. It also limits the possibility of a turnover in that situation and guarantees the clock keeps running.

McDermott went for it on 4th and 1 from his own 35 on the same drive, went for it again from 4th and 1 and you’ve zeroed in on a QB sweep (that’s been very effective in the past) as spineless?

    Your agenda is showing…

“It also limits the possibility of a turnover in that situation and guarantees the clock keeps running.”

    Exactly right!

You said it perfectly right there. That was the thinking behind that play call at that crucial moment of the game.

  13. 5 minutes ago, JGMcD2 said:

Yeah, that’s not what the play call was. It was a version of the QB sweep they’ve run with Allen in the past (Houston WC game comes to mind, but it was a pretty common play call under Daboll).

The play got blown up and rather than Josh try and fight up the sideline and stop the clock by going out of bounds, he fell down in bounds.

If you legitimately think the play call was “run left and kneel down” I don’t really know what to say…

It was a designed run left with nowhere to throw the ball.

You have 4 plays to end the game. You need 1 more first down to kill the clock, you used up 1 play already (run up middle) so now 3 chances left, and that’s the play you run on 2nd down? It was a throwaway play any way you slice it. It probably has a 5 percent success rate in that situation.

I’ve moved on. Just pointing out once again that McD is the roadblock keeping this team from reaching a SB with his spineless calls down the stretch of games.
