I saw that podcast, and I value Cosell's take. I still think Beane planned on Diggs being here in 2024. I don't think he's falling off a cliff. My guess was he is still a solid WR2 caliber player, at least. Draft pick compensation is a legit consideration.

I think he did too. Just got to a point where the issues plus compensation made it worth doing. Heard HOU had expressed interest earlier and came back again with another offer after some time. Not sure if true, but I completely agree Beane planned on one more year with Diggs on the roster.

I don't think you're on an island. The WR room with Diggs added looks a lot better. One can only surmise how toxic things must have become that Beane felt compelled to move him and take a huge cap hit.

Cap hit was this year or next , when Diggs would have been going on 32. Probably a cut at that time with no draft pick compensation. Why kick the can down the road again ? Loved Diggs when he was here, but clearly there were issues. I found Greg Cosell’s commentary on the situation interesting. He said in his opinion film breakdown showed that Diggs was no longer a #1 WR in the NFL and hadn’t been for awhile. Cosell isn’t one prone to hot takes and the like- he just evaluates the film. Just an interesting perspective on the player without the emotional attachment that we get as fans.

  3. That sounds like what the Chiefs have been doing Vs what we’ve been doing . Beane has filled holes with veterans at the expense of playing young players and getting them battle tested for the playoffs. They’ve been better than the Bills at this. We’ve sustained a lot of injuries and our more veteran team hasn’t performed at critical moments - particularly on defense. Isn’t this youth movement what we’ve been saying is necessary. Can’t have it both ways . Would’ve liked another WR in this draft but all these players seem to be filling holes left by aging veteran players or those not worth a big 2nd contract.

Even if they are graded the same wouldn't you want the one you liked personally best? Even if you are picking based on personality at that point, make sure you grab the guy that's gonna fit in with the team

I do agree we could see more trade downs from the bills

But if the bills make the pick at 33, I think it will be a non wr position. I'd go cb or center personally

If they were only drafting a WR in this draft then maybe. You’re not and have to look at the big picture of the team and entire draft. If they’re similarly graded with no red flags then you get value and move down. Personally I thought picking at 28 was less likely than moving up / down. Just figured there wouldn’t be a player they loved left on the board by then.

If it's wr at 33 why trade down?

3 wr's went in-between when you started trading down and your pick

Why risk having your guy or position get taken

If it’s WR then they had a group of WR with same/ similar grades  ( not first round ) and knew they’d be happy with any of them. Gained picks in the process = win.

I’m not sure. Maybe you have me confused with someone else.

Worthy has elite speed. A little skinny and slight. I had doubts about Devonta Smith who has been pretty productive at the NFL level.

even if he sucked, I would respect the decision. Now, I have to hope he sucks so he doesn’t catch bombs in the divisional round over Cooper Dejeans head

I would have loved it. It would have been risky, but bold and aggressive.

We will see you back when Worthy sends us home in January for you to tell us “no one could predict he’d be good.”

Hmmm… you said “ risky , but “ . Why do I get the feeling if Worthy was the Bills pick and failed , you would be calling him “ Roscoe Parrish 2.0 , another Harty “ etc etc ?

Do you think the bills asked the chiefs which player they would select before making the trade?

I don't know how this point of exchanges works, if only picks are exchanged or if the teams decide who they will choose.

You always hear that teams are charged a premium for QB trade ups. Is that a myth or do teams inquire about who is being selected ? Or do they just not make the deal if there’s a chance it’s a player they want ? Probably the latter I guess , but it seems implied that teams know who is being selected.

The Bills didn’t want Patrick Mahomes either. The Bills didn’t want to draft a WR  in day one or two since Zay Jones. Maybe the Bills are making a mistake lol

Maybe. The Bills had a lame duck GM so we know why they didn’t want to take a QB there. Well worn territory that’s been discussed to death. The Bills have Josh Allen, they don’t need a QB.

No evidence of that being “most likely.”

Fact: multiple teams wanted to trade with us to 28.

Fact: teams that drafted AFTER 28 went WR.

Fact: KC was worried enough about getting jumped for Worthy that they traded up to 28 to get him.

Nothing points to it being “most likely” they just stay pat and get worthy at 32.

Maybe they don’t . Still may have needed to make a move. That means

Fact : The Bills did not want Worthy

Fact :  If KC makes a move , some other team gets a draft pick.
It’s pretty clear the Bills didn’t want the WRs taken off the board from 28 on. If they did they just stay at 28 and turn in the card.

This is a very simple minded and weak way of thinking.  Playing scared.

they would’ve gotten worthy one way or another….unless you think we should’ve taken Worthy just to keep them from KC.  And that’s just pathetic.

This^^ The Bills didn’t want Worthy, that much should be obvious. Worrying about the Chiefs taking a player you didn’t value is a loser mentality.

I wonder how many WRs aren't signed to second contracts because they are traded or because signing them to a second contract is cost prohibitive.

I agree. The truly elite WR’s are retained. Many are good/ very good but the cost inflation at the WR position makes it more attractive to draft another one. Those cost controlled years are valuable.

Lots of questions in my head

    1.  Is this because Pegula is low on cash and could this get worse, chance of selling team outright sooner than later?  Maybe  he needs cash for stadium overruns

    2.  Maybe he wants cash to help with inheritance if his kids were going to take over?

    3.  The Bills are underspending the cap this year in terms of cash which in my mind is good but .......is it related to running low on cash in the business?

Most likely it’s liquid cash to cover stadium overruns.
