I'd be shocked. His skill set is just a plus version of James Cook. For once in Beane's draft history I'd like to see him draft a RB on day three and have them compete with Harris for the last spot.

It's that time for the annual draft rumors thread. Most of the rumors I post are from Charlie Campbell. Every year a few of his rumors come to fruition and he's one of the most reliable mock drafters in the industry - last year he correctly mocked all of the top 10 picks which is almost impossible to do. So his information is legitimate. Any legitimate looking rumors posted in the thread I will add to this original post. He's such a Brandon Beane player, though. If he makes it to 27 I think we sprint to the podium. Pure physical and athletic traits, a team captain, reportedly the hardest worker on the team. You bet on the traits and trust that the rest can be developed.
-
I do want a physical hitter. That isn't the same as a Brandon Spikes-esque downhill thumper though. I know Campbell can't cover sideline to sideline as well as Edmunds. But he apparently still covers very well in zone and also tackles well.

Saffold was beat off the snap and Allen's arm was getting hit as he threw it. You're being unrealistic. -

Do you really not see the irony of these statements? -
Sanders is apparently not a good tackler. Tackling is already a weakness of our defense so I'd rather not add someone else with the same issue. And I worry when I read things like this on his NFL.com scouting report: "Inconsistent in reading his keys for misdirection." "Some change-of-direction delay in coverage." "I think there is more value to drafting him as a pass rusher than a linebacker.” It reminds me too much of Edmunds coming out. I like Campbell because he's instinctual and tackles well.

Draft Prospect Interviews with Bills - Post 'em here

My theory is that they signed Knox when they did in part because the team needed some good news after the Matt Araiza situation. They extended Knox about a week after Araiza was cut. He lost his brother earlier in the offseason and I think McDermott and Beane thought the team seeing him get his due after suffering that loss would be a necessary salve for everybody after going through that fiasco.

No one we draft this year is going to move the needle in the way that you mean. Rookies are supposed to be role players, not cornerstones. You hope they become cornerstones in year two or three. So yes a front 7 player in the 1st round makes a ton of sense if that's where the value is at our pick. The best thing we can still do to move the needle is get Hopkins, Jeudy, or OBJ on the team. Established players move the needle, not low 1st round players in a weak draft.

I don't really agree with that, but even if it's true "other than the QB" is the worst qualifier in sports. Where do you see strengths on their roster? I like AJ Terrell a lot. Kyle Pitts is good when healthy. Chris Lindstrom is arguably the best guard in football. Then what? A lot of mediocrity at most position groups and headlined by maybe Taylor Heinicke. It's one of the worst rosters in football IMO. Competiting to maybe squeak out the division title in a weak division is not what I consider to be a team you take seriously. To me they're a team that should probably draft Anthony Richardson and accept 2023 as a rebuilding year. Not a team that should give 37 year olds one year deals with substantial guaranteed money. -

Wow that is a lot of guaranteed money for a guy that will be 37 this year. -

What would you trade for Jerry Jeudy?

Asking for a 2nd for Sutton is way off the mark. -
Be excited that he's a better WR than Gabe Davis. This is not even debatable. The last game he played in he was the best player on the field.

This is what Charlie Campbell has happening in his latest mock draft (that's 3 Campbells for those keeping track). I consider him as plugged in as anyone regarding the draft. He has heard from his team sources that Campbell is likely to go in the back half of the 1st round. Anyone hoping we can trade back into the 2nd and still get him, dream on. Athletic specimens with great character traits don't make it that far.

If you're looking for an optimistic comparison, DeSean Jackson had a similar build. 180 pounds, 29 3/4" hands. He had 3 inches of height on Zay Flowers but overall similar body type. But that's the only WR I can think of from this millennium with sub 30" arms that ended up a success. If you bet on Flowers you're betting on him being the first outlier in 15 years.

Oh I don't want to move on from Davis this year. No need to do that, I would rather have as much talent as possible even though I expect him to walk in free agency next year. But I also don't think he is truly good enough to be a full time #2 WR in this offense. His skill set makes him a perfect WR4 like he was in 2020. Beane gave him his shot after his divisional round performance in 2022, but now he is seemingly looking to upgrade him. We need a #2 weapon similar to what the Eagles, the Chiefs, the Bengals, the 49ers had last year. Davis is a fine #2 for the middle tier of the NFL. We're competing with the top tier. For what it's worth I don't think the Chiefs this year have a #2 worthy of competing with the top tier either, at least not yet, not since JuJu signed elsewhere. But they still have a great OL. The Bills don't even have that so we are desperate for one more piece of top talent if we hope to compete with the upper echelon.

His actions say otherwise. He spent much of the end of last season trying to sign OBJ, and he said just a couple days ago they still aren't out on him. They've been heavily connected to DeAndre Hopkins. So Beane clearly is trying to find an upgrade to Davis, regardless of what he says. This is similar to how he's been talking glowingly about Edmunds for a year now and made it sound like he was a definite extension priority. But his actions said otherwise. He always signs his cornerstone players early but let Edmunds make it to free agency. Don't listen to Beane's words. Watch what he does. That will tell you his true opinion on the matter.
