The #4. Beane spoke about the 4 spot last year being a guy who can play in the slot, can play outside, and is a vertical threat. That's what they brought in Harty for. He was the 4 who also doubled as a backup slot. A guy like Renfrow is redundant and offers pretty much nothing outside of slot play. I don't think you need a straight backup slot. You also have Kincaid who plays some slot. Renfrow would serve no purpose on this roster IMO.

Fair enough. Do you have a good source for slot vs wide reps?

    I don't really get why..

Shakir, imo, is a good player.  I'm completely fine with him being our starting slot for the next few seasons.

Diggs will play outside, but has always been a guy - compared to the other top guys - who's taken way more snaps solely outside.  He, as he gets older, should probably start getting moved around more.  That means an increased snap share in the slot.

Kincaid is a future star.  He's a TE, but like Kelce, will also take slot snaps.

Cook, if we want to truly maximize the reason we drafted him, should also be a guy who flexes out into the slot.

That's 4 guys.  1 of them a slot with outside flex and the other 3 as guys who should all see increased snap share in the slot.

No one out of Shakir, Diggs, Kincaid, or Cook solely plays in the slot.

Personally, I like having multiple pass catchers who can play all over.

Really not trying to die on the Hunter Renfrow hill but I am not against signing him on a prove it deal.

Anyone have a good source for slot vs wide percentages?

I honestly feel like I'm losing my mind.  Shakir showed improvement all season and was one of the only reliable post-season performers outside JA.. and everyone seems to want to replace him and/or draft/sign slot WR's... when we have zero outside WR's and the one we have should probably see an increased snap share from the slot... oh, and we have a potentially (future) elite TE who needs slot snaps as well.

Do you think it is possible the people who are open to bringing in a slot WR also want to bring in an outside WR?

The Bills don't need as many WR bodies as everyone seems to be implying.

Going into the season, they will only have 5-6 guys.

Stefon Diggs, Khalil Shakir are the obvious ones.  They also really like Justin Shorter.

I'm absolutely certain Beane is looking to add a WR on either Day 1-2 of the draft.  That already brings you to four guys.

Add one more cheap veteran in Free Agency.  Then vets Andy Isabella and KJ Hamler have the potential to contribute.  Tyrell Shavers also showed some promise in preseason/training camp last year.

I think they need to add at least three guys including a WR2 and two others who figure to at least compete for WR4/5. Whether that’s two FAs/one draft or vice versa I do not know although with such a deep draft I hope it is the latter. Not necessarily banging the drum for Renfrow but do not think the slot label should preclude us from signing someone.

Shakir and Kincaid are the slot players here. If you add a guy to the WR mix as the #4, it should be a pure speed guy, Quez Watkins, Andy Isabella, Scotty Miller, Mecole Hardman. I know Renfrow brings a lunchpail, but he doesn't move the needle at all.

Ok, but who is our back-up slot WR?

Bills need an outside receiver/downfield threat.

Hunter Renfrow is a slot guy.

No, I get that. But we need more than one WR brought in and my memory of him was he excels at route running. Could be the new Beasley and allow Shakir to work inside and outside.

Any idea where to find slot vs. wide %? Struggling to find Renfrow’s stats for that.

  7. Anecdotal, but those worried about Jones’ age may do well to recall Linval Joseph coming off the couch at age 35 to play fairly well for us last season.

While Jones is not Joseph, the guys who thought Joseph could still play are likely the same guys who worked on this deal with Jones.
