    Overview

    Toohill's a tricky projection based upon his issues stopping the run, but he has great flashes as a pass rusher. His body type may not be fully finished and additional play strength would be crucial considering his inability to anchor and shed against run blocks. His rush is much less effective against stronger tackles, but he's a decent athlete and hints at rush skill that has room for development. He's currently caught between a 3-4 OLB and 4-3 DE. If he can become bigger, stronger and more polished as a rusher, he might make sense as a backup edge with sub-package talent as a wide-9 technique.

     

    Strengths

    Possesses NFL frame ready to take on additional muscle mass. Posted 11.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks in first year as full-time starter. Length to overtake stutter-stepping runners from backside. Fluid and athletic when playing downhill. Upfield rush bolstered by snap quickness. Active hands work to displace punch and attack resets. Bend and agility to bend the top of the rush. Pass rush has a second gear to close. Lays the lumber into quarterbacks every shot he gets. Has two career blocked extra points.


    Weaknesses

    Doesn't use hands to take charge at point of attack. Unable to anchor down and hold the edge. Struggles to come unglued from blocks. Sputters to recover once he's behind during engagements. Leggy and lethargic with lateral slides to close down gaps. Doesn't hit speed to conversion effectively as rusher. Rush counters are telegraphed. Redirect blocks tap his brakes when attacking the edge. Not athletic enough for spot drops in coverage.

    Not sure if true, but some including I think cover1 have speculated he was 165 lbs just so he could try to break the record 40 yard dash time and will likely play closer to 175 lbs.

    2017 Draft Profile:

     

    Overview

    Jack-of-all trades but master of none, Samuel showed an ability to gain yardage and create scoring opportunities in a variety of ways on a talented Buckeyes offense. However, NFL teams will want to slot him into a more defined role, which is most likely at receiver. He is still learning the position and has separation quickness to create open throwing lanes, but while he's sharpening his route work, he could find early reps as a kick returner.


    Strengths

    - Has crisp feet for sudden change of direction

    - Long-strider with deep speed to challenge press coverage over the top

    Shows defender an exaggerated jab fake at top of his routes to generate lean from cornerback and create separation out of his break

    - On comeback routes, can stutter feet into his break for a sudden stop-and-open timing throws

    - Has explosiveness both vertically and out of his breaks to uncover on all three levels

    - Can ramp it back up to top gear quickly after tapping his brakes in space

    At his best when matched up in open space

    - Gets faster and more dangerous as the play unfolds

    - Has two years of kick-return experience

    - Moveable matchup piece


    Weaknesses

    - Plays with some hip tightness that make his play more linear than fluid

    - Needs to work on release against press

    - Could get hung up off the line and into his routes by athletic, press-cover slot men

    - Has unnatural hands that fight the throw

    - Will default to body catches

    - Didn't have as many "pro-style" touches as teams would like

    - Averaged just 5.5 yards at the catch point, and several carries came on jet sweeps and stretch plays from shotgun

    - Average ball-tracking and adjustments to poor throws

    - Wasn't asked to handle blocking responsibilities very often

    Bills Host DT Sebastian Joseph-Day on Visit

    2018 Draft Profile:

     

    Overview

    Three-year starter with an excellent motor to go along with above average toughness. Joseph's athletic ability and quickness serve him well as a run defender, but he is unlikely to be much of a factor as a pass rusher on the next level. Joseph will need to add mass, but he's got a shot to fit into a rotation as either a three-technique or shade nose in a 4-3 defense.

     

    Strengths

    Plays with very good quickness off the snap. Impressive 4.97 forty at his pro day with a 10-yard split to match. Quick hands, strong hands. Flashes two-gap sensibilities with ability to punch, spy, and disengage. Plus agility to scrape along the line to mirror the runner. Explosive lateral burst to snare running backs from the backside. Never stagnant with relentless motor. Good feel for blocking schemes and attacks his attacker. Makes impact tackles near the line of scrimmage.

     

    Weaknesses

    Lacks pass rush production relative to his athletic ability. Was often subbed out on obvious passing downs. Has played nose at Rutgers and could face move to three-technique in pros. Could use more mass and anchor at the point of attack. Can be stalemated when facing quality strength across from him. Was unable to impose his will against Michigan State's Brian Allen. Needs twists and games to help him get off the mark as a rusher.

    Why are people so against…

     

    … moves that clearly give JA17 more dangerous weapons

     

    … having RBs/WRs who can be deployed all over the field

     

    … being able to disguise which pass catchers are doing what (remember that pre-snap motion is a thing)

     

    … stats showing Samuel is not strictly a slot WR but is a model of production consistency

     

    … the idea that a “boundary WR” can be less than 6’3” 215 and still win because separation is actually the most important attribute

    I’ve gone from wanting Worthy because I think he’s at least WR4 in the draft…

     

    To wanting Worthy just to see the board complain that “He’S aNoThEr SmAlL sLoT wR!” despite the facts that he plays big, runs great routes, and is consistently productive on the boundary.

    Where are all the people who should be upset we signed a slot WR? Or who think WRs only operate from the slot or only operate outside?

     

    Also, I feel these lists of our healthy fleet of pass catchers are sleeping on Knox.

    Huge! Anticipated this somewhat with the Brady connection. 
     

    Now get a FA starting safety so we can go into this draft with true positional flexibility.

I get the idea of a bigger body across from Diggs but this is 2024 not 1995. If you have an innovator on offense body types shouldn’t matter. 
     

    Waddle and Tyreek Hill neither is a traditional X

     

    Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel , Jahan Dotson


    Jags had Ridley , Christian Kirk, and Zay Jones none of which are X WRs 


    Please stop making so much sense
