I just think with his 170 lbs is going to be less than ideal. I know about Dvonta Smith but feel he's an exception not a rule. I mean Worthy hype only come since his forty time imo.

Smith is one but there are a bunch of others with similar build and success. DeSean Jackson, Marquise Brown, John Brown, Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders, Tyreek Hill, Zay Flowers, and TY Hilton, just to name a few. Less than ideal sure but I think Worthy belongs in that bunch of exceptions. I kind of hate that he broke the 40 record because I liked him this much pre-Combine.

The law of averages and it seems like most elite speed guys struggle in the NFL and of course his low weight a concern.

Diggs going to Maryland didn't help his cause as let's admit it they haven't been relevant in the NCAA. Toss in his best season was his freshman year and he struggled with injuries a bit in school etc. So his stock dropped for said reasons.

Not sure what you mean by law of averages. I’ve read his weight was down intentionally so he could break the 40 record.

Fair re: Diggs. I think McConkey goes in the 1st.

This receiving corps needs a more typical boundary receiver and someone who doesn't necessarily need the separation to make a big catch. Josh has never had top-calibre WR with that ability. Closest was Benjamin for a year? All he's ever had are some backup-calibre guys with plus size traits. As good as Diggs has been, he's obviously not a big guy.

    No Thomas Jr.?

I feel like Allen was at his best with Diggs, Brown, and/or Sanders as “boundary” WRs. Do you see them similarly to the 4 prospects you listed? Or closer to Gabe?

Wothy maybe only because he's got elite speed and that might cause teams to not want to bump and run him because of fear he'll take them to the house but we've seen guys with elite speed struggle in the NFL. Tyreek has been an exception IMO not the rule. McConkey to be is a pure slot, as he wins based on route running and short area quickness. I know people will claim this sounds like Stef, difference being Stef was a 5 star guy coming out of highschool, Ladd was a 3 star. Also Stef plays bigger than his size IMO and has elite ability to separate.  So, no I don't think either of these two will be above average outside options.

    Fair enough.

Obviously Tyreek is one of one, but what about Worthy makes you think he might struggle at the next level?

On the McConkey/Diggs comparison, how do you factor in that the latter was a 5th round pick?

I love Harmon’s work and Samuel has obviously played with pretty iffy QBs for most of his career, but the production simply hasn’t been there against man coverage. Like I said, I think he has the skills to potentially be a good WR against man but he’s going on Year 7 or whatever and people are still hoping for him to really break out. I don’t want it to come across like I think he sucks or anything; I like Samuel and am excited to have him on the team. I just don’t think it would be wise to assume we’re all set with he and Diggs as the man beaters. Would much rather add one more weapon that projects to be that type of player.

Even if you want to assume Samuel will be a beast against man, we still have more of a need for that skillset than beating zone IMO.

When you say the production simply has not been there against man coverage, is that re: the Bills WRs recently or re: Samuel?

If the latter, then how do you reconcile that statement with Harmon’s stats showing he consistently beats man?

FWIW, the single most important trait for a WR prospect, to me, is the ability to separate and do it quickly, be it against man or zone.

Thomas, Mitchell and Legette have size and speed. Franklin/Coleman either thinner or slower and as result perceived less than ideal. Now I could argue Cornelius Johnson, Bub Means, De'Corian Clark fit this mold of boundary WRs but may not be as NFL ready as the first 3.

Curious whether you think Worthy and McConkey can or cannot be effective from the outside

The same 3 guys that get spewed here all the time. Thomas, Michell, Legette.

Franklin and Coleman also fit that mold but the vast majority will tell you they don’t want them

Is there something other than size and being “boundary WRs” that sets those guys apart?

He'd be redundant in this WR room. The Bills already have Diggs, Samuel, and Shakir. Get somebody that'll add an extra dimension to this receiving corps.

Which top WR draft prospects do you think are not redundant and would add that extra dimension?

Oh duh lol I was reading the wrong part of the chart. 4.0 still isn't #1 in the class though (but it is #2). Anthony Gould was at 4.3 this year.

That's what Kincaid and Shakir are for. Those two (and Diggs, who is good against basically any coverage) are great against the zone. Aside from Diggs, we don't really have anyone that excels against man coverage (Samuel theoretically has the skills to be but simply hasn't done it to this point in his career).

Worthy is not the fella I want, but I'd hate to see him go to the Chiefs or an AFC East team. If I hate that idea, he must be pretty good.

My preference is a big X type, and if not, I am partial to McConkey, who I think is going to be really good, but I am also biased in that assessment.

If they go with Worthy, I will be excited to see him stretch the field, and thinking we still better get a big X early day 3.

Worthy is my favorite in the second tier, but I would be happy with McConkey, Thomas Jr., or Mitchell at 28, too.

Agreed if it is Worthy or McConkey, then I hope they double dip and try for Gabe 2.0 in round 4 or 5.

If the Vikings trade up to 4 or 5 and take a QB, perhaps NYG is willing to move out of 6?

    28, 60, 4th, 2025 1st & 3rd ?

    select Malik Nabers

I’m at the point my preferred WR’s are

    Nabers, MHJ, Odunze, BTJ

I want a top WR prospect but the whole thing about this class is how deep WR is so trading up is likely poor value, even with how good the top 3 are projected to be.

Much likelier imho that we trade up once again ahead of the Cowboys if a WR we really like is there at 23. (We’ll see who has that pick by Draft weekend, but seeming unlikely it will remain the Vikings.)

Maybe we jump the Jaguars up to 16 with Seattle but even that price is likely too steep for a GM who seems hell bent on fielding a younger cost-controlled team.

My brother in christ, I'm referring to him at the next level. I live in Texas, I have been to games to watch him play.

Guys like that don't succeed in the NFL.

You're going to tell me he has an advanced route tree? That makes me think you have never watched him play football.

You think he can beat physical CBs off the line? That makes me think you never watched him play football.

You think he is going to go over the middle on a 15 yard in and catch a ball while getting hit? That makes me think you never watched him play football.

I don’t live in Texas, but I have eyes, and he definitely has a diverse route tree, is a skilled route runner, and plays tougher and bigger than his size.

Guys like him do succeed in the NFL and are named, for example, Davonte Smith, DeSean Jackson, Zay Flowers, John Brown, Tyreek Hill, Will Fuller, Antonio Brown, Cole Beasley, TY Hilton, Emmanuel Sanders, Darnell Mooney, etc.

If we take Worthy and try to turn into a contested catch slot guy, then that would be on the OBD suits.

I don't think it's fair to say that Xaxier Worthy is John Ross 2.0.

The first set of stats is Ross, the second is Worthy.

For one thing, John Ross broke out as a fourth year Junior, doing not much of note until then. Worthy broke out as a freshman, posting 981 yards and 12 TDs.

As for the size and the notion that players like him can't hold up in the NFL:

Xavier Worthy is 5'11" 165 lbs.
Devonta Smith is 6'0" 170 lbs and has done quite well for himself in the NFL.
Darnell Mooney is 5'11" 174 lbs and has posted a 1,000 yard receiving season in the NFL and just signed a decent FA deal to be a WR2 for Atlanta.

It's not unreasonable to think that Worthy can add 5 lbs of muscle in an NFL strength and conditioning program.

If you don't like Worthy as a prospect, that's fine, but I think that calling him "John Ross 2.0" or blaming his size is faulty reasoning.

This plus there is speculation he was only down to 165 to try to get the 40 record.

I'm very happy that we added Edwards.  2 Super Bowl rings.  Insights into KC's defensive schemes.   Playmaker.  4 Defensive TD's.   3 INT's in the playoffs.  27 years old.  Low $.  If he performs at a high level we can lock him in for 3 more years.  Seems to be a quality character who strives for more than being called "underrated"

    Incoming All-Pro 😎

Also cool that he said he watches a lot of Hyde tape and models his game after that
