Notable Offensive Moves by McDermott
jrober38 replied to jrober38's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The offense has been just as awful at scoring points with Allen as they have been with the other bums under centre. Allen was regressing since the first half against the Vikings prior to his injury. -
Oh god. 1. The guy who played yesterday was the QB who "won" their QB competition in the summer. This was the guy who they felt so comfortable with going into the season that they traded AJ McCarron. This was their choice. 2. These guys were never in their plans this year. Wood retired last January. They had plenty of time to replace those guys, but opted not to. 3. This group of WRs was hand picked by this regime. They traded a 3rd round pick to get Kelvin Benjamin, and they traded up because they had to have Zay Jones in the 2nd round last year. These are the guys they wanted to build around. 4. Shocking. A 30 year old running back is showing signs of age. Like that's never happened before. 5. McDermott has hired two offensive coordinators, and they've both been horrible. Their systems are dated and lack creativity. We don't do any of the things you see from top offenses around the NFL. The offense we're watching set records due to ineptitude is the offense Sean McDermott intentionally put on the field this year. These are his QBs, his offensive line, his group of running backs, and his hand picked group of wide receivers. But some how it's not his fault.

The players you're criticizing were all hand picked by McDermott through trades, draft picks or free agent signings.

Notable Offensive Moves by McDermott

Why one Earth would you expect that to happen? -
I think Andy Reid is at the forefront of offensive strategy right now and guys from his coaching tree seem to be having good offensive success. Pederson and Nagy are both doing very well, so I'd role the dice on Bienemy if we can't get someone like Riley.

Notable Offensive Moves by McDermott

I think he's saying that the Bills could be good if they bring in an offensive minded coach to take them in a new direction, but giving McDermott and his flawed vision another year to waste draft picks and give away contracts to players who aren't good enough will perpetuate the cycle. -
Zay Jones is a #4/#5 type of receiver for half the teams in the NFL. He's just a guy who can't stretch the field and can't get open against man coverage. There are probably 150 WRs around the NFL with his type of skill set, and none of them are difference makers.
-
Sure, but it's exponentially higher in the NBA where there are only two rounds of the draft. Lottery picks, particularly in the top 5, work out significantly more often than guys picked in the 20-30 range who you're pretty much just hoping become bench players. In the NFL, top 10 picks are more likely to work, but it's not a big difference between those guys and the guys picked at the end of round 1. There is hardly any evidence that tanking is a tried and tested strategy in the NFL. Usually the teams picking in the top 10 are the same teams picking there every year.

As I've said time and time again, these guys cannot evaluate offensive talent. Lincoln Riley, Eric Bienemy or Josh McDaniels would be nice upgrades.
-
Agreed. We'll have a better offense when we replace Beane, McDermott and Allen.
-
Trading a 3rd round pick for Benjamin and trading up for Zay Jones in the 2nd round were bandaides?
-
Yup. They expected the offense to take a big step forward now that McDermott has all his guys. It "couldn't get any worse" than what we had last year with Tyrod. What a disaster.
-
The offense we're fielding is the offense McDermott wanted to field. He got rid of the QBs he didn't want, and brought in all his guys. He got rid of the OL he didn't want, and brought in all his guys. He got rid of the WRs he didn't want, and brought in all his guys. This is 100% McDermott's offense. He values character and culture over strategy, and the results have been a complete disaster.
-
This is just wrong. McDermott has added: QB: Josh Allen, Nate Peterman, Derek Anderson RB: Chris Ivory, Marcus Murphy FB: Chris DiMarco LT: Dion Dawkins LG: Vlad Ducasse C; Russ Bodine RT: Jordan Mills (the re signed him) WR: Kelvin Benjamin (traded a 3rd), Zay Jones (traded up for him), Andre Holmes TE: Croom, Thomas THIS IS THEIR OFFENSE. THESE ARE ALL THEIR GUYS!!!!!
-
This is just not true. Numerous people on this board expected the offense to be better this year than they were a season ago. Lots of people claimed "it couldn't get any worse." Boy, were they wrong. I genuinely think that McDermott and Beane thought this team would be better than last year. I think they thought they'd have better play calling, I think they thought Tyrod was really holding them back, I think they thought Benjamin and Jones would take a big step forward, that the OL would gel, and that McCoy would return to form. Literally everything they've done on the offensive side of the ball for the past 2 years hasn't worked. These guys have no idea what they're doing on that side of the football.
-
The WR coach isn't the reason the wide receivers can't get open.
-
I don't buy this. This is McDermott's OL, these are his hand picked WRs, his RBs, and his QBs. This is the offense he assembled, and it's HORRIBLE. Nate Peterman "WON" the QB battle this summer, and he's clearly not an NFL player. Nothing they've done suggests they're even remotely capable of evaluating offensive talent.

McDermott is Dick Jauron 2.0. His philosophy on how to win football games has zero similarities with any of the top coaches in the NFL. We need to get rid of this guy asap. I genuinely think they thought this team would be better than they were last year with "his guys" and the result is the worst offense the NFL has seen in at least 20 years. You can't field such an abysmal offense in 2018 and keep your job. You just can't.

Fire Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane.

Why did Rex only get 2 years?
jrober38 replied to RosenNOTchosen1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rex was fired because Doug Whaley told him to bench Tyrod and play EJ Manuel and Rex refused. -
Notable Offensive Moves by McDermott

This shouldn't be surprising from a guy who looks more and more like Dick Jauron 2.0. Run the ball, take care of the football, cater to the weather, and play field position. That's McDermott's offensive philosophy, and if anything unexpected happens, we're screwed. The offense cannot overcome negative plays, and if we turn the ball over we get blown out.
