Is this a playoff team with Tyrod?
jrober38 replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As I said, Allen is the same guy dating back to his 2.5 years at Wyoming where he threw 650 passes. All the things he showed on tape there he shows on tape for us on a weekly basis, and it's not good enough. -
You obviously don't pay money to go to the games... 3-7 and the worst offense in NFL history isn't what I'm paying my money to go see 8 times a year. The Bills goal should be to win the Super Bowl, but they also need to entertain the fans, and this year the games have been unwatchable for the most part.

Allen has been everything his scouting report said he'd be. He's been the same player for the Bills as he was for Wyoming. Inconsistent accuracy, poor decision making, walks into sacks, tries to escape the pocket too early, doesn't throw with anticipation, etc. That's what we've seen all year with him in a Bills uniform and it's what he showed for 2.5 years at Wyoming. Josh Allen is not close to being a competent NFL QB yet. He has to improve enormously just to get to the point where he'd be considered average as a starter, let alone getting to the level of a franchise QB who can actually win games. I'm excited to see what he learned by sitting on the bench for a month, watching tape, and learning. Will things slow down against the Jags, or will he be the same skittish QB we saw at the beginning of the season who struggled to throw for 100 yards a game? -

Yet Taylor's QB Rating was unchanged from 2016 to 2017..... -

They just ignore basic stats. It's unbelievable that Bills fans would not be in touch with how historically horrific the offense has been this season. For all the terrible offense we've seen over the past 15 years, this has been far and away the worst one this franchise has fielded over that time. -
Yes. I'm a lot happier with those seasons than the garbage we've seen this year, that may not actually result in better offensive play unless Josh Allen improves by leaps and bounds. You're assuming it will all be worth it and Josh Allen will work out. The odds are that probably won't happen, and this season will just be the worst season in 20 years for no good reason.

Dude, we lost three offensive linemen. Everyone else is the same as last year. I have a really hard time believing those three guys are worth 6 points per game on offense. That's pretty much impossible. Losing them shouldn't have reduced our offensive scoring by 30%. Our offensive scoring is at the bottom of the NFL because we have the worst group of QBs in the league. It's not complicated. The fact that you want to try and draw conclusions from 40 pass attempts, and ignore the rest of his career is hysterical. -

Allen will get as long as Beane and McDermott are employed at OBD, as I assume their fates are tied to one another. The only thing I'll add is that guys like Allen, who need considerable development before they're ready to contribute, hardly ever work out in the NFL. I mean, when was the last time a successful 1st round NFL QB took more than a year to show they were really good? Most guys show they can play pretty much as soon as they get on the field. The only real exception I can think of is Jared Goff who was as bad as Allen his rookie year who went on to be really good. -

Again, what you're saying is just nonsensical. Yeah, we couldn't score, but still scored 19 points per game. Prior to Matt Barkley going off, we were scoring 10.6 points a game, and are only now scoring 13 points per game. Every argument you want to make can be easily shot down by basic stats. 2017 we had a bad offense. 2018 we have arguably the worst offense in NFL history. -

Mayfield looks like a real QB who has been improving steadily for the past month. That's a lot more than can be said about Allen so far. If Allen doesn't show signs of progress down the stretch Beane and McDermott would be wise to not go all in on him the way we did EJ Manuel years ago, and figure out a Plan B with all that money they have to spend in free agency. -

Still significantly better than any of the garbage QBs we've played this year. You don't seem to understand how horrible our QBs are. Aside from Matt Barkley, they've all been a complete train wreck. -

You're essentially saying you think Taylor would have 5 Touchdowns and 16 Interceptions at this stage of the season? That's what our offense has done so far, and you say there wouldn't be much difference. Taylor's worst season in Buffalo was last year with the exact same group of receivers and backs as last year he had 14 TDs and 4 Picks. Your argument is simply nonsensical. -

Allen has looked exactly like the scouting reports said he'd look. Inconsistent accuracy, poor pocket presence, and limited ability to read a defense. He's got a big arm and can run around, but it doesn't amount to much yet. -

You seem to be ignoring the fact that the Bills have the worst QB play the NFL has seen in 9 years. Everything you said is correct. What you're missing, is that even with all those things being correct, Tyrod Taylor is still a much better QB than anyone on our roster. The Bills QBs in 2018 have been historically awful. Taylor isn't a good player, but he's not even remotely close to as bad as any of the guys we've trotted out this year. Taylor's yards are better than any of our QBs who can't 'complete passes, don't throw touchdowns, and frequently turn the ball over. Tyrod is a limited QB, who is below average by NFL standards with no upside. The Bills QBs in 2018 have been a complete train wreck by ever measure available. -

Which number is higher? 64 or 57? Even with a tiny sample size, Taylor's horrible 64 QB Rating is still better than the Bills' 57, or Josh Allen's 61. -

The sample size is a bit small to try and draw meaningful conclusions from. For a guy who throws interceptions about as infrequently as anyone in the league to throw 2 in 40 attempts, it's going to make the bottom line look pretty bad. Over the course of 300 passes, that number would go up dramatically. Taylor is a low ceiling, high floor type player who isn't going to lose many games. He takes care of the football which is something our QBs haven't done all year. Again, the Bills QBs have a collective QB Rating of 57 over 317 pass attempts. That's the lowest total since the 2010 Carolina Panthers. -

Taylor's career QB Rating is 89. The Bills total QB Rating this year is 57. Hard to imagine any scenario where Taylor stinks it up as badly as our QBs have. If he'd produced his typical 14 TDs, 6 Interceptions type season, with a QB Rating around 90, we'd be in the thick of the playoff race. People don't seem to understand how truly horrible our QB play has been this season. With mediocre starter level QB play this would be a really good team. -

Yup. Mayfield now has his QB Rating up to 87 and is improving every week. If we had him to go along with the #1 defense in the NFL we'd be challenging New England for the Division Title. -

Yeah, it's really hard to win in the NFL when your team's collective QB Rating is 57. If it was 90, this team would be exponentially better due to the vastly improved efficiently at the QB spot. -

100%. With this defense, if we had a QB who could generate a QB Rating of about 90 (like Taylor did each of the past two years) instead of a QB Rating in the 60s like our QBs have produced all year, I'm fairly confident we'd be 6-3 instead of 3-6. -
Doubtful. Barkley was always a flawed QB with limited arm strength, zero mobility, and mediocre height who put up huge numbers at USC because he was surrounded by NFL talent. He threw a ton of wide receiver screens to Marquis Lee, Robert Woods and Nelson Agholor and they did most of the heavy lifting. Honestly there's not much difference between Barkley and someone like AJ McCarron. Both are limited players who excelled in college because they were surrounded by studs who could compensate for their short comings. Barkley was throwing to not 1, not 2, but 3 future starting NFL Wide Receivers and a future NFL tight end. Of course he looked "good".

Where a guy was projected at one point in time doesn't really matter much. Christian Hackenberg was projected as the #1 overall pick after his freshman year. He was a colossal bust. Aaron Murray was projected as a 1st rounder as a Junior. He was a 7th rounder who quickly fell out of the league. Jevan Snead was projected as a top 5 pick after his sophomore year. He went undrafted. Barkley was "projected" as a top 10 pick by Walter Football and other amateur draft sites. No one in the NFL ever thought he had the arm or difference making ability as a passer to ever be a top pick. He was a 4th round pick for a reason.
