I'll sponsor $200 donation to the winner's legitimate charity of choice (nothing stupid just to tweak people but a good cause we'd all get behind). I'll post an image of the receipt once I make the donation. Make it something positive.

Jets trade DT Steve McClendon to TB
shoshin replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thank your deity of choice that Adam Gase is still the coach of the Jets. You can't rebuild a team in the NFL like you can in basketball. The right single player can make an NBA team. Football has a lot more pieces on the court and in staffs. The Jets are decimating a culture that was already trashed. And they do not have a talent base to work with. Who's their most talented player? Crowder? I don't give a lot of credit to the Pegulas for hiring McBeane (no credit because of Ryan and Sabres) but I do give them credit for recognizing they got it right. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
shoshin replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
CDC data looks about the same as last year so far. 600 cases more is nothing (see the totals below) especially when you look at a socially distanced, more flu shot-receiving, warmer fall so far and where this curve usually goes. It's going to be mid 70s all week this week in PA. Not flu weather yet. Call me at weeks 50-52. You have to admit: That's a crazily misleading data point from FoxNews. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

We discussed it before. Your original point when you raised it was that there was a standard change in June. There's wasn't. 3x you are ignoring the actual data, unless you count your link to "rightwirereport" as a source. Look at ACTUAL death data if you want. It also shows excess, both here and in Europe. -

simply not true. Like when you asserted that standards for pcr tests changed but they didn't, deaths for all causes are up. I've linked the CDC data upthread when you posted this earlier and you ignored it and here is more data for both Europe and the US. https://ourworldindata.org/excess-mortality-covid Excess deaths is no reason to panic but can we stop with the nonsense that nothing is happening. You are a consistent source of misleading data. -

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

Remdesivir got some bad news (as did HCQ though it was just a side note). https://www.livescience.com/remdesivir-survival-covid19-coronavirus.html About 4,100 of those patients served as a comparison group and received no drug treatments, while the rest received one of four drugs, or a combination of several medications. These drugs included remdesivir, hydroxychloroquine, an antiviral called lopinavir and an immune-stimulating molecule called Interferon-β1a. About 650 patients received the interferon and lopinavir, together. Ultimately, the study results suggest that no single drug or drug combination significantly reduced deaths among patients, as compared with the no-drug group. In addition, the drugs did not reduce the chances that treated patients would be placed on a ventilator, nor did the drugs reduce patients' time in the hospital. "The unpromising overall findings from the regimens tested suffice to refute early hopes" that the medications would reduce mortality among COVID-19 patients, the study authors wrote. -
That was the throw I was thinking of. Forgot about the one to Davis. He came out in the 2nd half reset to good Josh. The fact that he's showing he can go back to that is a huge sign of growth. Last year, he'd have been running all over creating chaos and trying to hero-ball his way to a win. Tuesday he tried to take what was given to him (the under zone passes to Beasley). It just didn't work out.

To me, Allen was off compared to what he's been lately, but if that's the new floor, I'll take it. From Qs 2-4, I was bracing for "Bad Josh" and he didn't appear except on one throw he really forced to Diggs deep in his territory late in the 2nd. His Davis INT was a bad throw but not a bad decision--Davis had a shot if the ball was higher. That was just a physical mistake.

What would you like to see be done here?

I'm the guy in my world who volunteers for everything, and you make a good point: Setting aside that those who remain would be in an uproar if selected, I can't imagine wanting to moderate PPP. To me that begins to suggest the answer to your initial question, not to channel Sr. Marie, but "If you abuse the privilege afforded, you lose the right to it." (Followed by confiscating the privilege of straws in the cafeteria due to spitballs.) -

What makes you think a guy who is on the bench for 50% of snaps and has yet to do anything in the NFL is worth a second round pick? -

100% agree. The issue here is not multiple views under one roof. Lots of people including me want that. The issue was civility, which is on the rise recently. -

Posting memes, retweets, and videos unrelated to the topic being discussed predates anything that happened 6 months ago. It's just that some new people came in posting the other side's nonsense. -

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
shoshin replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
What is your source for that? Here's the CDC: And here's a JAMA article that concludes: Although total US death counts are remarkably consistent from year to year, US deaths increased by 20% during March-July 2020. COVID-19 was a documented cause of only 67% of these excess deaths. Some states had greater difficulty than others in containing community spread, causing protracted elevations in excess deaths that extended into the summer. US deaths attributed to some noninfectious causes increased during COVID-19 surges. Excess deaths attributed to causes other than COVID-19 could reflect deaths from unrecognized or undocumented infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 or deaths among uninfected patients resulting from disruptions produced by the pandemic. Study limitations include the reliance on provisional data, inaccuracies in death certificates, and assumptions applied to the model. -

My wife will be one of the first people as an HCW with lots of contact. I wonder how long from approval to injection. Really? I'm fine taking it early but I'm healthy and happy to defer to those at risk, HCWs, and anyone just afraid. -

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

Treatments are much better now. That's indisputable. CFR has to be much lower these days than April, though we had such a limited handle on cases in April that it's hard to compare CFR now vs then. -
That became after-the-fact rationale. That and Kavanaugh were later excuses for what's happening now.
