  1. but how do you feel about him as a cornerback? I felt that he showed improvement as the year went on and I certainly give him the benefit of being a rookie. It did seem though, that he was picked on a lot and got beat on a lot of key third down plays. My guess is that he is going to be a decent CB, but was wondering what others thought.

  2. I wonder if we could trade for a quality defensive end that not only is a good pass rusher but a force against the run. A team needing a running back that alson considers Schoebel to be adequate might bite.

I  like Schoebel ok but I think we can improve.

You're right. Just an Old Timer that occassionaly forgets about cap implications. Thanks.

  3. Uhh!! I believe Mike was sticking up for You. BTW I don't doubt your info is legit. I have known people in the Bills organization over the years and still do to some extent but don't share stuff anymore here because whats to gain? I have friends from TBD that I share info with that know that what I tell them is usually 99% correct but won't post it here anymore because it just brings childish scorn. There are other posters that I know, that have good insight into what the pulse of the Bills is, so-to-speak, that share info with me that won't post it here also. IM a little older than most here and for most of my generation you could count on a persons word. Too, too bad for those of you in the me generation that you can't believe or trust anyone.

Here's to us "little bit" older posters and giving someone the benefit of the doubt. Besides enjoying some of the better comments from posters, I have always enjoyed any inside info I have seen on this board. If you don't believe it or don't want to read it...then DON'T!

I for one, thank anyone for an inside scoop!

  4. Euhus is a pass catching TE in the Jay Novachek/Brett Jones mold. Pass blocking is not his strong suit. I do like having him. I'm not sold on Campbell. He's OK but we can do better.

I believe Peters future is at OT.

It is exciting to hope for Peters to have a future at tight end (although I agree he will probably end up at tackle). I know the game has changed greatly since his time, but I remember John Mackey literally running over people after he would catch a pass. He was incredible. I like to envision Peters in that fashion.

  5. He's one of those players that will kill you emotionally. Terrible way to start a game, but he makes so many plays the other direction.

A lot of penalties all around... how do our first stringers in their own stadium get owned by the backups for another team?

This team just isn't there yet.

I have not liked Lindell all year. With the way Mularky wants this team to play you need to have a kicker who is clutch inside the forty. This way you can run the ball down the other team's throat and when the other team's D tightens up in the red zone and stops you, you still know that you can gets some points out of that long drive. We need a clutch kicker, and Ryan is not in that category. Donahoe needs to address this if he wants this team to go to the next level.

The D was not able to get off the field on third downs, and Drew looked lost against a decent defensive scheme played by Pittsburgs backups. The O-line did not do enough to protect Drew at times, but there were times when he had plenty of time, but in the big games he chokes. Holding onto the ball WAY too long. What happened to that clock in his head that is supposed to go off after 3-4 seconds. I literally counted 6 "Mississippis" when he barfed up that fumble.

I still think we bite the bullet and start Losman next year. Heck most of our success the latter part of this year was running the ball. Losman can hand off to McGahee as well as the next guy. Either that or let Drew walk and sign Brees if you are looking at keeping Losman on the bench for a few years. If we stick with Drew we will always be an "almost" great team.

Drew can win the winnable games against weaker opponents, he has yet to show me that he can win against quality defenses.

Actually your last sentence applies to the entire team. They struggle mightily against top teams. To see second and third stringers dominate us makes me question the entire teams fortitude. I enjoyed the winning streak and am looking forward to next year... but if we can't compete against the upper echelon of the NFL, how will things change?

  6. I learned that the Bills are a good team that made significant strides during the 2004 season. Terrible day but rather than fingerpoint, which many here will do, I'll calmly offer my outlook on what the Bills need to improve/ take the next step.

    1. Still need some beefing up on the OL. Bills probably need a new OT with Jennings leaving ( I believe he will ). Guard depth is needed. We were exposed today when Chris V. was out. L. Smith and Pussywillow aren't even good backups.

    2. Kicker - Lindell just lacks consistency and seems to be a head case. Can't depend on him anymore, not even inside the 40. Whatever is left on his contract, eat it and find a new Kicker. This is a must.

    3. Drew was terrible, even with time to throw. Held the ball far too long. Brain dead decisions.  Had some rough stretches even during the winning streak. Not buying into him anymore. Still makes glaring mistakes that cost your team games. Will no longer listen to the apologists. If he can't take you deep into the playoffs, then what is the point ?

    4. Coaching - Stress the discipline angle to cut down on the penalties. Make them pay in practice. Too much self destruction, costing us valuable field position and first downs.

9-7 is a good year, with a 1st year Head Coach. Today was technically week 1 of the playoffs for us and we could NOT win, at home, against a good team playing many 2nd/3rd stringers. How on Gods green earth were the Bills going to do anything on the Road in the real post-season ?  That means winning 3 road games to reach the SB.

That should be a sobering wakeup call to how much we need to improve.

    Conclusion :

    1. ST's - Needs a Kicker, Strong everywhere else

    2. Defense - More Depth due to aging - Good starting 11 for now

    3. Offense - OL help needed, more depth, QB change To Losman

    4. Coaching - Work on Discipline ( less penalties)

This team is moving in the right direction, heading into 2005. Make some key improvements and you can win 1-2 more games, cementing a playoff position and actually being able to play with the Steelers, Pats and other elite teams.

Certain key players came up small today and it's time to turn the page. The blame game doesn't mean a thing to me.  We are a B+ team that can improve with certain key moves, listed above.

Nice comments... I als think the tight end could be upgraded. Bottom line... we have a lot of positives but showed we are not ready to beat a "prime timer"...

  7. Not defending anyone...but if you think Moulds was about to be hit as those balls were being led to him, you watched a different game than me. On both occasions he should have caught the ball AND would have taken the balls in stride for first downs.

    188750[/snapback]

Moulds dropped balls all year... he of all people shouldn't have had a tight collar today. I guess that we have also seen the last of Josh Reed.

  8. According to BillsDaily.com, since going 0-4 we have outscored opponents 66-3 in the third quarter and haven't allowed a touchdown in the third quarter all year.

That's huge. In my opinion, the third quarter is undeniably important. Starting the second half off right can lead to domination for teams, and it has for us.

Jerry Gray, who I admit I haven't been really excited about until just this year, has proven he may very well be the most important coach on the team.

Being able to make adjusments is the key to being a good coach (something Williams' staff failed to understand) and Gray has done it. This being Gray's first year in complete control of the defense without someone meddling or looking over his shoulder, he's shown a lot.

Hats off to Jerry Gray and all of the defense!

I have always heard that one of the signs of how good a coach is revolves around the adjustments they make at halftime. I couldn't agree with you more. There were a lot of years where we were "out-adjusted" by other coaches at halftime... nice to have the shoe on the other foot.

  9. I pretty much gave up after the second New England game. I was down on Donahoe and labeled the team as quitters. I am very happy that I overeacted and was totally wrong. No matter what happens the rest of the year Bills... thanks for not being quitters... thanks for a great run! And "Ol' Whitey"... I tip my hat to you... never thought I would say that!

  10. First off, WOW.  Not the voice I expected from the most dominant interior player in the NFL.  He sounds like he's 5'10" 180 pounds.  He could have a career in the booth when he decideds to stop devastating offensive backfields.  VERY well spoken.

Talked glowingly of the coaching staff, especially Jerry Gray and feels that despite being fairly new at their positions are as good as any he's been around.  Says that he's doing what's charted for him in the "schematic" of the defense (his words) and that its a priviledge to play with guys like Fletch, TKO, TV, and LM.  The aggressiveness of those players is what makes this defense special.  Tough to argue that.

How good did the defense play today? I take it Vincent was at free safety... I wouldn't know because I don't remember his name being called. San Fran never got that far! What a defense!

  11. I hate to age myself, but I played high school football with a very interesting individual that played Pro football. In 1973 Mark Murphy graduated from Clarence High School. I graduated in 1974 but got to play on the same team with him.

Upon graduation, he turned down numerous scholarships to attend Colgate (non-scholarship school). After a great collegiate career, he was signed as a free agent by the Washington Redskins. We all figured that even with his talent he wouldn't make it. The team was coached by George Allen, who did not have a fondness for rookies. Well, to make a long story short (I know... it's too late) , he ended up eventually starting at free safety, played on a couple of Super Bowl teams, got his law degree and I believe ended up as the President of the Players association.

He is presently the AD at Colgate. Never met a nicer guy, he never had a big head and could have probably played Pro hoops or baseball.
