We don't have the mentality to win close games
Billsfan1972 replied to UKBillFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Great you found an article that tries to support your theory. The Bills are a very good/great team and thus even though should win as per the article .500 (since random), they have not (and that included the terrible 2018 season). 2019-2022 they've been even worse, so that goes against the "random" theory. I showed that 2021 all the good teams were actually even better than .500 in these situations. The ONLY outlier being Buffalo. How does that happen according to the above? Probably because it is not right or was 2021 such an unusual year? And again the back door td's the Raiders & Miami scored really are as I stated redundant when the win probabilities were in both cases over 95%. Oh and the playoffs are only good teams playing so yes there will be 1 win and 1 loss in these close games. But as of October 2022 the Bills are 1.000, so I'm pumped......😉 BTW I did not start the thread or get too involved in it until this point, but there is no doubt it is an issue and exacerbated by 13 seconds which was 100% a coaching meltdown. -

Why don't you go through every game of every team and cherry pick yourself? I have been talking about late game (i.e. last 5 minutes, and in most cases 2). Regardless they were up by 14 & 10 in the games you cited in the last 2 minutes and neither team recovered on-side kicks or had a chance to go ahead or tie the game. The Bills didn't even need a first down to secure the game. Vs. Indy in the playoffs, they almost blew a 14 point lead and if I remember correctly needed one first down to ice the game (and they didn't get it) and frankly held on by their fingernails. However a win is a win. McD's career record isn't great either as stated and as I've shown many a few were as I've referred to as backdoor covers. Bills haven't had a single one.... So again I've done the work.... One Score Games 2017 4-3 2018 3-3 2019 4-6 2020 5-1 (two back door covers) 2021 0-5 2022 1-1 (Thread started when 0-1) Total 17-19 (or 14-19 if remove back door and Baltimore game as thread started prior). 17/36 = .472 14/33 = .424 Both are well below the Bills winning % over that time, which shows they do proportionally worse in close games vs. expected. Sorry if math isn't your strong suit. -

And I have said let's move forward too..... But facts are facts.... I was thrilled they did everything right on Sunday in the last 5 minutes. How about you answering my questions, which you are an expert at evading. The Bills 0-7 record did not include one "Back door Cover", but the 2020 Miami & Raiders games are immediately trumpeted as winning a one score game, though Bills were comfortably ahead in the last two minutes (i.e. by 14 & 10 points). Heck up 14 vs. Indy in the playoffs in the 4th and they hold on and again that is to you the same as the Tennessee, TB or KC game? You're more slippery than an eel..... -

There's no agenda. The fact some here hate the idea that one would question McD is quite funny. 2020 btw they were 5-1, however as stated two were the result of last 2 minute TD's by Miami & Raiders (backdoor covers), which mean very little. They beat LA Rams, NE & Indy in the playoffs (again had a 14 point lead in the fourth, won by 3). The 0-7 were all games they had the ball with a chance to win late in the 4th (or OT), which is a huge difference. This isn't a deep dive, it is facts. The Bills are one of the 5 best teams in the NFL 2020-2022. I expect better. But I guess that concept is way over some of your heads? -

Stats don't work. Other teams success means nothing. Career reviews are skewed to fit some narrative. Facts and actual results mean nothing to some people. 2020 the only game they won the last minute was vs. LA. They held on vs. NE and yes the Hail Murray. 2021 was some bad luck, breaks if we want to call th that, but also some that the Bills really have only themselves to blame. Just admit that. I give up..... -

If every good team is able to win close games but the Bills that means nothing to you? I've said I'm looking forward, And I love that it doesn't matter what other teams do. Can't argue that point🤣 If you're OK losing close games all the power to you. -

Hey Pot..... Kettle calling.... How absurd are you. Who cares that other teams are successful, but the Bills are not? You really said that? Hey the Giants won 5 games, but let's not look at that because wins/losses don't really matter? Winning close games are important and all the good teams showed that in 2021, except one team. That team was Buffalo. How many stats do you need to show that as a fact? Billy Claude showed a great rundown (you even approved it) and it showed the Bills being not particularly good when trailing. So let's move forward as I pointed out that the Bills are 1-0 from October 1, 2022. Let's hope the one game trend continues.😉 -
Now put Allen in the same spot as Lamar Sunday and he throws the int, and it is Lamar marching the Ravens down the field for the win & Allen's MVP chances are gone if the two have similar stats come the end of the season (i.e. two best QBs). I however expect (since jaded), that if they are 1-2 at the end of the season, Lamar's bad read will be overlooked as the argument will be "The Bills are a better teams, with better weapons and Allen didn't pull out the Miami game".

Wasn't your eye it was you responding to ToGoGo, who explained how much better his eyes were in assessing plays/coaching/late game situations😉. Didn't mean hurt your feelings. 2021 is a perfectly fine reference point as their record was just so bad and as I pointed out, but you ignored, every winning team (acknowledged as good or SB contenders) all had at worst .500 records in these "close" games. And if they pulled out 1 game, they probably get home field through the playoffs. But you keep ignoring that, because acknowledging facts just doesn't suit your narrative. -
Two plays were wide open and Lamar made the wrong read. The fact he threw it and was in the direction of an open receiver was actually impressive, but was way too late and too much arc.

Well someone did the work and showed that what has been discussed was pretty bang on, but those #'s don't jive with you for some reason. Not having a good eye, I guess means you know better then me? Well I'm sure you do and it is just bad bounces and bad luck.... Okay.... And yes Teef, to me a lot has to do with the coaching (13 seconds will not be easily forgotten as there were just so many mistakes, all on the coaching imo). Yes I have removed two back door covers from the 13-3 season, because they were just that, where the Bills were well ahead (like yesterday the Rams if they scored down 24-9 in the last 2 minutes did manage to score). Do I blame McD for Kyler Murray's Hail Mary? No.... Do I think he made the right call vs. Tennessee? Yes I do (though I think they were disorganized on 4th down). I however think coaching was responsible for KC, TB, Miami (time management). NE & Jax a lot could have been done differently (and weather in the NE game), so who knows. The Pitt game was just an anomaly and the Bills seemed unprepared for some reason. Just was talking about the last 2 minutes. And remember I have praised McD and the team for brilliantly handling the last 2 minutes Sunday vs. The Ravens. -

Never questioned Allen. This was about coaching, defense, play calling.... And yet again when it is pointed out that the good teams all in 2021 had winning records in "these games" but the Bills did not, then the argument changes and the excuses start..... Regardless they are 1-0 since October 2022, everyone happy now????😝 -

Actually they haven't and the fact that you won't even look and just make a comment that is blatantly incorrect shows how lazy you are when it comes to this site. But some people find you witty so I guess that's all that counts. How about you coming up and showing some facts? Oh sorry that takes some work. I'm sure the bills had some back door covers in 2018 2019 in 2017 and that should make you happy. I'm sure Teef bought it.....🤣 -

So being up by 10 + points with under two minutes to go and the team scores to get it within one score that's a great accomplishment? I get it now. Geez you guys are something else. Go check other Elite teams in 2021. By and large they won close games or were around .500 at worst. The Buccaneers, Chiefs, Green Bay, Rams La Chargers Las Vegas Raiders just a few examples of teams that all were well above .500 in 1 score games in 2021? Oh and the worst number 1 seed Tennessee also won the majority of their close games. Don't let facts get in the way of piling on which seems to be some people's modus operandi. -

Again I explained back door covers..... Unless you are the Cleveland Browns and blow a game with a win probability of 99.9% (Jets). -

They were 13-3 in 2020. Miami scored with 49 seconds left to get within 3. Raiders scored with under 2 to get within 7. Barely beating NE that year on a Newton fumble in the red zone nothing to put on your coaching resume. -

Why do some people take it so personally? It was a fact the Bills did not come back and were losing close games. Last 3+ years the Bills have been one of the top five teams in the NFL yet were not able to win close games. Really it is not an arguable point the statistics back it up. The last close game that came back on was versus the Rams when they gave up a huge lead. I refuse to include the Patriots game when we barely survived Cam Newton at home or back door covers (ie Miami 2020)..... -
NFL Live just confirming that Lamar missed not one but two wide open receivers on the fourth down play. Also as expected, Lamar was locked in on Andrews, which is very much one of the concerns with him. As I said this was not about the MVP, more so about how the some were setting this game up and the fact I do all of them were in Lamar's corner. Face it if the Bills lost this would have been used as a talking point at the end of the season.
-
When they blow out teams the last two minutes are inconsequential, but of late the Bills have not been very good. Credit where credit is due, "The best prepared Coach in the NFL" (just for you Teef😝) made the right calls (heck even had his timeouts).......😉

Very obvious at the 7-8 second mark Singletary went down on his own.
