From what I understand, that Wentz injury is complicated.
Thought it was just an ACL though?

Would much rather have Bradford ?♂️
Ditto.
With his injury history Bradford won't cost more than $10 million per year and that's what OP is willing to pay DA. With Bradford you at least get a QB with big upside.

There are Wall members who were not drafted by the Bills. Kemp and Tasker, for example.
I'm not sure how many players nowadays play 75% of their career with one team. Very few would be my guess.
Probably the majority of HOFers but a Wall of Fame is several halls down from the HOF. McCoy has to play 3 more seasons here just to match his time played in Philly.

I meant that the team led the league in rushing in 2015-2016
Oh okay.

Shady has basically been our offense for the last 4 years. He is the teams MVP and a huge factor in how they made the playoffs this year and led the league in rushing the last two years.
Actually Shady is 4th in rushing yards over the 2016-2017 seasons. Elliot and Bell are 1 and 2 despite the multiple game suspensions each has served and Jordan Howard is 3rd.

Interesting. Well I think that says a lot towards the LeSean/Only 3 years argument.
Different time and era. Cookie lead the 8 team AFL in rushing yards and rushing TDs in two out of those three seasons. McCoy has not lead the league in any statistical category in his three seasons with Buffalo.

McCoy is a better RB than Frank Gore
The two have been nearly identical through the first 9 years of their careers, especially with regards to total rushing yards and yards per rush average.
McCoy holds a 10 total TD advantage and about 700 yard advantage in Total Scrimmage Yards.
McCoy will need to continue to have a strong end to his career into his 30's to keep up with Gore though. Their numbers are close enough that if McCoy is elite than that pretty much puts Gore on the doorsteps of elite as well.

You act like there are a lot of schlubbs in the HoF at RB
there are only like 26 or 27 modern backs in... Terrell Davis is like the only disputed guy
Jermore Bettis??
That guy has zero business being in the HOF. He got in on longevity. Problem is he was pretty much well below average his entire long career. Gore on the other hand has been above average over a long career. If you get in on longevity you need to at least be above average which both McCoy and Gore have been.

By that standard he has pretty much1 wow season...
because it was easily his 3rd best season ever and not far off from his 2nd best
He is a HoF and we got his 3rd best season ever. I'd say that's wow enough
I agree he is a future HOFer but disagree with the thinking he had a WOW season for us. It is possible for HOF RB's to only have one WOW type season and make the HOF. Look at Frank Gore's stats. Another future HOFer.
Some players get in on having many wow type seasons in a short career while other get in on longevity and consistency. The latter has been more of McCoy's route to the HOF.

What did Richter do to wow you? What about Hansen?
I'm not getting in a debate about Ritcher or Hansen. We are talking about McCoy here. McCoy has been a Bill for 3 years. No way that is anywhere near long enough for the WOF, IMO. The other guys were Bills for some 25 combined seasons. McCoy needs a WOW season or he needs to at least stick around two more years at minimum if not three more.

Leading the NFL in YPC in 2016 isn't a wow season ?
Not when he doesn't even total 1300 rushing yards. A wow season was his 2013 season when he went over 2100 yards from scrimmage.
-
McCoy has yet to have a "WOW" type of season in his 3 years with us. I don't believe there is any official criteria for making the WOF but I think he needs at least another two solid seasons of production with us like he has had in his first three.

I'm starting to warm up to the idea of signing Cousins. I like the benefit of keeping all our draft picks. If we somehow made the playoffs with Taylor and Peterman we definitely have a good shot to repeat with Cousins. He also seems like a McDermott type of guy as well.
I don't think Cousins has the build or arm talent of a QB that will last into his late 30's. But even if he completely falls apart at 35 that still means he gave us 5 solid years and figure he signs a six year contract, that's not bad. We just have to eat the last year where he totally sucks.
Also, I don't think Kirk will get the astronomical money people think he will get. I think it's closer to $23 million per year than $27 million. I think for Cousins, he was just done with Washington no matter what unless they were going to give him stupid $30+ million kind of money. But I could see him taking less from literally any other team just so he can get out of Washington.

Gaines and a 2nd for Watkins? Bills have definitely gotten the better of that trade so far. Gaines was a much more valuable player for us than Watkins was for them. Plus who knows what the 2nd round pick will net.
That's not how you grade that trade. You can't grade it that way because the two teams run completely different offensive systems. Rams run a sophisticated passing attack that spreads the ball around. We ran a limited passing attack that tried to force the ball over and over again to Zay Jones. In our system forcing those passes to Watkins would have more likely than not made our offense measurably better this year. But again, the Watkins trade was also about long term contract status as well. In a one year time capsule it would have been better to have Watkins on the team this pas year. But 2018 and beyond maybe not.

Bills make playoffs, break 17-year drought <drops the mike>.
It was great making the playoffs but if we look at all the different metrics, the 2017 Bills were probably one of the 5 or 6 worst Bills teams of the 17 year drought. Yet they were the team to break the drought. Go figure. The stars definitely aligned for us to make the final card seed. Just as people like to say you can't fire a new GM for poor performance after one year I also don't think you can determine a GM to be a success after one year.
The biggest reasons this team made the playoffs was the exceptional play out of our new safeties and new place kicker. I don't believe either of those moves were moves made by McBeane? If anything, this team possibly makes the wild card at 10-6 instead of 9-7 if they have Watkins this year. Now I'm not saying the trade from a long term perspective still wasn't a good one for us. But just in a one year time capsule, Watkins likely would have given our offense a big boost this season. We still have to see how many of these moves pan out. Where will the team go from here?
Ultimately McBeane will be judged on whether or not he is able to find a franchise QB. Like many of the GMs before him. Or if he doesn't find a franchise QB but this team still competes and has another playoff appearance in the next 2 or 3 seasons I'd say he has performed well compared to our other GMs but maybe not well enough to stick around if we still don't have a franchise QB.
On 1/26/2018 at 4:33 PM, McBean said:How many drafts has he been the main guy in charge?
Is this thread a joke?
I think that is the point. Jury is still out on McBeane. Again, the three biggest reasons this team made the playoffs were Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer and Stephen Hauschka. None of which were McBeane moves.
McBeane's legacy is all about how his draft picks will set us up for years to come. We have to wait and see if that comes through or not.

The XFL will likely play from the week after the Super Bowl to mid-April so if you want to watch football during the spring the XFL will be your only option. They won't be able to cut into the NFL's talent pool, at best they will be able to get the best players not in the NFL. It will be a product designed for fans of football who have nothing to watch after the NFL season is over.
Yeah I just can't commit more hours to watching football though even if it is during the NFL off-season. If I didn't have a family i likely could but then I'm still not likely too if it's just a farm league for the NFL with no real talent or names.
They absolutely should put teams in St.Louis, Oakland and San Diego though. If I'm McMahon I would also look at putting a team in Toronto and Mexico City too.
-
Vince needs to get two NFL team owners to cross over their teams into the XFL. Will never happen but that's what he needs for his league to take off. Could he convince a billionaire friend or two to cross over into the XFL?
I can't see myself watching the XFL unless they get the very best players and significantly cut into the NFL's talent pool. As is I almost exclusively watch the Bills during the regular season as I just don't really have time to watch other teams. How am I going to find the time to watch meaningless XFL games?

To be fair, he would be an absolute idiot to come out and say" we will do whatever it takes to get into the Top 5" , and I don't think he is an idiot

Exactly. You can never really take anything a GM says as proof of what they attend or not attend to do.

No dunkirk don troll nonsense Teef, those that know me are familar with my past work in the Pac 10 (now Pac 12). And I'm still in regular contact with insiders out west which is why I know about Darnold and what teams covet him.
You were wrong about Trent Edwards and now you're doubling down on Peterman.
-
Bradford or Alex Smith as the Veteran QB. Peterman as the 2nd year QB. And a rookie QB.
I think how we approach the QB position in free agency / trade talks before the draft will be telling. If we pretty much just sit on our hands and do nothing I think it means we are going to at least try to go all out and get one of the top four QBs. Then after the draft we bring in our vet QB.
If we bring in the Vet QB first it might mean we take a QB in the 2nd round or later.

Score more points! Alright! Maybe we can finish in the top 10 again like we were in 2015 with Taylor and Lynn. At least currently both sides of the ball are broken and need fixing. We can avoid the annual trying to fix something that isn't broken event again.

I agree that Costas is too bright to be fulfilled by sports broadcasting alone. He is no doubt a huge sports fan, but the guy could have done a lot more and I often wonder why he didn't want to go the news broadcasting route, for example.
He could have been another Dan Rather/Tom Brokaw/Peter Jennings type.
Maybe he didn't like the work load those daily anchors had. It seems like i very rarely ever hear or see Costas. Those other guys work 5 days a week year round and then do other special things throughout the year.

True. But I have seen several games this year where he looks like he wish he were somewhere else. I think he may be losing the love of the game he once had. After the season I wouldn't be surprised if he hangs 'em up.
I don't know. I feel like he has always been a moody one on the field. But he is always able to put it behind him and get ready for the next play or next game. I just don't see him hanging them up until he loses several steps and he is no longer a top 3 QB in the league. I know he won't hang around as just a top 10-15 QB.

You can't just insert Cousins on the Jags and think the Jags beat the Patriots.
Bortles might not be the better QB but he played a mistake free game against the Pats. Cousins could have easily thrown a costly INT against the Pats. And scoring wasn't a huge issue for the Jags, they did put up 20.

It helps that as we catch up to them over the next couple of years, they will be slowing down, or at least Brady will be...or at least you would think. The guy can't play forever. It's possible we could arrive just as Brady is on the way out. That would be great timing.
For all I know Brady could seriously play another 5-6 years. Yeah he is old as dirt right now but the guy hasn't slowed at all. I mean I haven't seen a single sign of the guy even starting to fall apart. Heck, maybe he plays till he is 48 or 50.
