  1. I actually wonder what's up with modern QB development, because almost every good quarterback now is getting quite old and I see approximately zero Brees/Brady/Rodgers replacements. I can only name one QB under 30(Wilson) who's an equal to prime Rivers or Palmer and they were a whole tier down from Manning/Brady/Brees. I think one reason they're sticking around so long is just because of how poorly modern QBs are being developed. You can stick around a lot longer when your younger potential replacements are slack jawed fumblers who can barely hit the side of a schoolbus at 10 yards.

  3. Sorry for writing above a 5th grade level. Restated: People who move to Georgia who are from other Southern states, agree that their home towns were similar. If you were not born within 50 miles of me, I do not trust you, or particularly like you. Unless I want to have sex with you. Then you're acceptable unless one of my friends finds out. That's true for Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama at a minimum. I don't have much experience with people outside of those three states, aside from Florida(which doesn't have any sort of Southern identity south of Jacksonville).
  4. Not sure what this reply has to do with Southerners living in their home counties being suspicious of anyone who isn't very regionally proximal to them. Diversity has zilch to do with that.
  5. I think the original protest by Kap basically boiled down to "LOOK AT ME! I NEED ATTENTION!" And it got a lot bigger than he expected. Then Trump sniffed out the opportunity for some sweet, sweet attention of his own. So he said things to get some of that attention for himself. Then, as usually happens after a round of Trump Attention Whoring™, a bunch of people who don't like Trump, proceed to do the opposite of what Trump says because "He's not my president™". At which point, the person trying to play counter to Trump's demands finds themselves diminished as a result, while Trump suffers no ill, because people already expect Trump to behave like this. How many times has this played out now? 50? More? Every single time it's the same. Trump puts X person on blast, X person decides to roll up their sleeves and jump in the mud and give Trump what for. And then that person takes a hit to their brand while Trump suffers nothing, because his brand is already being a d***. I just don't know if Trump is a lot smarter than I originally thought or virtually everyone else is just a lot dumber.
  6. I wonder if Trump's NFL rant is just revenge for the United States Football League he used to own?
  7. I live in Georgia. I was born in Missouri and lived in California for years. I have exactly zero friends born and raised in Georgia and guess why that is? Every single person I'm tight with is a Yankee or a Southern transplant(from anywhere other than the same county in Georgia) and they all have the exact same experience. So I guess I "know" about a few hundred Southerners. The folks up in Tennessee aren't much different. They don't like people if their grandparents didn't know each other. The only exception is local women who want to date me. But just friends? Nope, not a one. That's the most common experience of living in the deep South. A leading reason I'll be leaving here in a few years(also hate the weather). The Southern transplants confirm this was exactly how their home town was as well. The further away from your hometown someone is, the more suspicious you must be of them.
  8. Obama actually said he felt that Kaepernick was not well advised to do that, and that it could cause many people to be upset over it. He did however, defend his constitutional right to do so, which is separate from what Trump is saying. There's nothing in the Constitution that prevents being fired for expressing an opinion your employer objects to. http://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2016/09/29/president-obama-town-hall-nfl-kaepernick-protest-sot.cnn I just find it an interesting dynamic that Tebow was criticized by ESPN talking heads for taking a knee in the end zone as being divisive; while those same people are applauding taking a knee during the anthem as being heroic.
  9. Yeah, I take equal issue with flying both a Confederate and Mexican flag in the typical context they're flown(which is usually, F YOU AMERICA). A lot of Southerners hate, hate, hate, Yankees. That's mostly what it's about. It's actually far less about racism and slavery, and much more about asserting true Southern roots. Most people flying Mexican flags are up to the same thing. I'm from Mexico, have ZERO interest in integrating into American society. But I expect you to foot a $10,000/year bill to provide my numerous children with bi-lingual education even though I pay about $2,500 in taxes per year. Can't say I've ever seen someone fly a French flag outside of a French restaurant. I've never had a problem with people flying Israeli or Canadian flags because I've never met people doing it specifically to disrespect Americans. I probably would have been fine with Mexican flag flying a good 40 years ago, because it was probably truly about pride instead of snide anit-Americanism.
  10. You bring up a great point, and it's one that isn't exclusive to black people. I grew up around white people who were exactly like this. They lived in low income housing(section 8 and trailer parks mostly). Virtually all were on some type of welfare. Food stamps at a minimum, often receiving numerous types of assistance. They worked part time at best, and plenty simply had no job at all. Many were alcoholics or drug addicts. They hated police, and would absolutely refuse to work with them. Crime was rampant, and they just didn't seem to care. They'd blame everything under the sun other than their own lack of work ethic and morality. On the flipside, I'm more than happy when police shoot 90% of the people doing this stuff. Their whole life they're in and out of jail and never do anything useful. Three strikes is way too lenient because nobody gets caught on their first crime three times in a row.
  11. I would argue that this is the most substantial thread that I have ever seen.
  12. Curtis Painter backed up Manning and he holds several records in his short career.
  13. If we're digging around the Raider trash bin, I'd prefer Jason Cambell. Though EJ and Orton are both better than either one.
  14. Look at Geno Smith. He had a rough time, but seems to be turning a corner. I'm not saying it's a sure thing, but it's very possible. The odds probably favor a somewhat poor season and new quaterback drafted in 2015. It is true that for every Brett Favre or John Elway that starts off bad and becomes good, there are three Christian Ponders and Matt Linearts. The odds don't favor EJ, but he still has a lot of potential. If he still looks like this at the end of this season, that will be a different matter.
