  1. exactamundo - you are a bright man... may the rays of enlightenment continue to shine upon you, BfloBart
  2. on the lighter side, I'll tell you what I dislike about the north and south from personal experience: North - 5 month winters long in Bflo, ice storms, New York sport teams other than Bflo South - fried fired and more fried food, cockroaches, lack of beer choices (wake up - there's more to beer than Bud and Bud lite), Miami, and Dallas but hey, its a package deal and you take the good with the bad...
  3. Yeh, but whatshisname is a far far cry from Priest Holmes. With 40+ passes, NE had to be bringing the blitz - NE's DAMN good, rarely make mistakes, and has that opportunistic D that can turn games, i.e., McGinert sake at the end
  4. And I guess you'd call this schadenfreud (spelling?) - delight in the misfortune of others.. but its SO WONDERFUL to see some of my most hated Bills rivals SUCK so prodigiously... PS - WE still suck... although the sucking sound isn't quite as prodigious and the BIlls recent wins have given me hope.
  5. I disagree and think you're missing the point - there is a very real and profitable connection between a team and its fans. People in LA may go to a game to be seen, but Bills fans who show up in cold blustery weather fit the bills in my definition of a fan. I make this same point regardless of whether the Bills win or lose. When they win it should not be "WE won" just as when we lose it should be not "THEY lost". Kind of hypocritical, don'tcha think? By the way , WE suck this year. Granted, I like the recent turnaround, but WE will be lucky to finish 500....
  6. Absolutely stellar post, nodnarb. I forgot where I read this stat and the details, but it said something to the effect that this is the FIRST game in THREE SEASONS that Bledsoe had anything close to 200 yards passing after the 1st half. Bledsoe has been conspicuously absent, in the stats and QB ratings, leading the team to a victory, and especially in games against his former team. Frankly, he is overpaid and cannot and will not be the style of QB leader that Kelly was. It hurts for the fan to think that since he had one good year in 2002 that this was be reproducible. Its not, and Bledsoe is finished. While he's not as downright odious of a QB as Feeley or Collins, he is most certainly very mediocre. At some pt, he has/is a liability for the Bills in the QB position. Enjoy the victory, but this is primarily due to special teams and D. When Bledsoe can show some consistency and good decision making, which has NOT been the case for a good two years now, I may think of changing my opinion on him. Until then, here's wishing him the very best, but he's clearly not helping this mediocre offense.
  7. wow! congrats to you - both on getting a signature AND pissing off Fred (Hey - he is getting up in years)
  8. Some nice words from Jim Ritcher and kudos to those crazy Bills fans who hang in there and scream their collective head off... "The home crowd was a huge factor, the 12th Man of old. Ritcher gave a moving testimonial to the fans during his halftime speech, calling them the franchise's one unfailing constant. It's easy to forget how loyal the football fans are in this town. Coming off an embarrassing loss to the Patriots on national TV, a sellout crowd packed the place and voiced their belief. They made a big difference."
  9. from your icon, you should be wary - hatred, fear, anger - these are all forces of the dark side
  10. Martz was upset about security NOT being able to find the 6 time-outs he unexplicably lost sometime over the course of the afternoon...
  11. Damn I envy your optimism, as this is the SB champs, don'tcha know
  12. Truck driver divorce Baby take your teeth out
  13. wow - some folks take the Bible WAY to seriously... As for the homosexual argument, say or think what you will, you're stuck with it whether you like it or not...
  14. I was truly surprised to see the post from a few days ago alleging SF State University republican students being threatened by PLO supporters. In fact, I contacted people on our campus as I was really surprised not to hear or see any local news coverage of this. To follow up and perhaps point out some not surprising lack of detail in the Front Page reporting, here's what I hope is an unbiased report on these events from our president which I just received today. Hopefully some of you may alter your opinions based on what's presented here. Dear Colleague: As I have said in many settings, and remind us all now, San Francisco State University is committed to providing an environment for open discourse, for the free exchange of ideas, and for practicing the skills of democracy. And democracy, as we know, must be rooted in respect for the humanity of all -- including those whose ideas we find objectionable, even abhorrent. It is hardly surprising to see the strong feelings that have gripped our nation play out on this politically-engaged campus in the aftermath of the Presidential election. However, last week's noisy and angry campus encounters between students of opposing political views have left me deeply disappointed with the behavior of some on both sides. Even though sensationalized reports of these events are false, some students did dishonor their cause -- and themselves -- by their verbal attacks and intensely hostile demeanor. This is what actually occurred: On November 1, four members of the campus College Republicans staffing a table were approached by four young female students of Middle East descent (three of whom are U.S. citizens, by the way) who began to voice their intense anger about Bush policy and the war in Iraq. Tempers flared on both sides, but the only physical exchange occurred when a College Republican attempted to slap away the hand of a student leaning over the table and pointing at him. In response, she slapped his shoulder. Campus Public Safety intervened and interviewed the two students on the spot. When asked whether they wanted to press charges against each other, both declined. However, both have now been referred to the campus discipline office for possible violation of the student code of conduct. Were ugly and unacceptable remarks exchanged? Yes, and campus discipline provides a mechanism for dealing with that behavior. But to label this encounter, largely between eight students, an anti-Semitic "intifada" and the work of a "mob" is seriously to distort reality. Two days later, on November 3, students who were angered by a sensationalist Internet site's portrayal of the Monday event and others who were disappointed by the outcome of the Presidential election gathered near the Student Center. That day they disrupted scheduled events and some confronted an informational table set up by the College Republicans. This noisy but non-violent confrontation, which in no way was a mob action, grew into an impromptu anti-Bush rally of 150-200 students. Public Safety maintained a clear separation between the College Republican table and the crowd. We have found no evidence that the GUPS (General Union of Palestine Students) initiated either this or the Monday event. Rather, both were outbursts between students of strong and opposing opinions. Taunts, attempts to incite each other to anger, and remarks drawing on the worst stereotypes and global fears violate the values of this campus. In many cases, they also violate the student code of conduct, as a number of students (from both sides of the argument), who have been referred for possible student discipline, have just learned. Further, exchanging charges of "racism" and anti-Semitism" with others because of their political affiliation rather than dealing with the substance of the political differences is a dishonest dead end. If vigorous discourse moves from heated to heinous, we will use existing campus policies to restore civility. On this campus, free speech does not mean free rein. It is time to place greater emphasis on another of the key skills of democracy -- effecting change. To take a purely practical view, hurling charges and yelling is not the way to bring about political and social reform. Those who really care about issues need to work the political system, where the battles are fought and won. I wonder whether those who seek to antagonize, to provoke, to vent their anger rather than wrestle with issues, realize what harm they do to free speech, to a fair and open society, and to the cause of justice for all peoples. Such behavior invites -- has already invited -- the kind of calls for interference in the life of this campus that would ultimately make it an inhospitable environment for all. I believe strongly that in our terribly troubled world, each of us has an intense, personal responsibility to seek solutions, not exacerbate problems. I hope that at the next emotional gathering on campus -- and there will be more -- all of us will find that balance between passion and decency. Our future depends on it. -- Robert A. Corrigan, president
  15. Damn - guess this means ABS will NOT be showing the movie "Shaving Ryan's privates"...
  16. and the French love Jerry Lewis movies too... and >1 post stated that the PLO was responsible for the Munich Olympic killings and some folks love to eat White Castles after a nite of drinking (moi aussi!)... opinions are not always based in fact
  17. Arondale - I'm not sure where to start on this. I grant you the 2 pts you stated above but can most certainly point out the problem with interpreting the Bible literally. In this same thread, more than one poster has stated that they DO take the Bible literally, and this sort of behavior scares me. The Bible is NOT necessarily the Word of God, when its been recorded by humans, and translated from its oroginal language, it certainly loses lots in the translation. Plus, its about 2000 years old, and while it does provide good teachings, it is more than a little dated.
  18. Holy toxic byproducts, Batman! Far be it from me to defend the poor, underrepresented, and disenfranchised republicans, but this article seems to be more than a little bit slanted, and anyone who's read Frontpage before would hopefully know the politics of this organization. Much of what's said here is hearsay. I swear I did not hear one word on campus (PS - I WORK at SF State U!!!) nor did I read anything about this in the local newspaper. Apparently, only words were traded and its not surprising the dissenters were not happy with the outcome of the election. Methinks these dissenters took it a little far if they did say or make the threats they did. If someone was slapped, I'm sure they can press charges. And somehow these poor traumatized young republicans will now be able to move on knowing that there is not a mandate, at least not on this campus. Its also been clear for years that there are many radicals of both sides of the political spectrum on every campus who do not bring any constructive dialog to political discussions. Unlike us, of course, all of whom agree and are readily swayed by constructive criticism and an open democratic process.
  19. even better than Campy's link!!! http://www.ridiculopathy.com/news_detail.php?id=874
  20. Some interesting commentary here and I'm impressed by the intelligence and thought that went into many of the posts. Thanks for your views and some of you were correct in that this is a bit of extrapolation from Bush's views on religion and their application to US policy. Still, there's some rather obvious dangers in a govt which ties policies too closely to moral values of particular religion of choice. I would hope that we in the US can avoid some of these errors. Abortion and marriage rights are two such issues that we'll return to again and again over the next few years. And like the subject of paying college athletes, there are two sides here but they are VERY polarized and there appears to be very little middle ground OR a high chance of success in getting people to change their opinions here.
  21. studies like these are NOT useless, ESPECAILLY when they happen to validate a point of view I've already adopted... as per the Daily Mirror headline "How can 59,054,087 people be so dumb?" Hey - at least I'm honest. And no one ever said that democracy always yields the correct decision. I'm sure in the ancient days, stonings were considered to be democratic too.
  22. Have fun with this one, folks! One more not so subtle reminder NOT to take the Bible literally... Dear President Bush: Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from you and understand why you would propose and support a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage. As you said "in the eyes of God marriage is based between a man a woman." I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination... End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them. 1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians? 2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? 3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense. 4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them? (NB - I would vote YES here - I love the smell of charred animal flesh in the morning! Smells like... STEAK!) 5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it? 6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination? (NB - what about homosexuals EATING shellfish - or heaven forbid - a sea cucumber!) 7. Lev.21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here? 8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die? 9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? 10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14) I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.
  23. Bettman is a little rat-faced weasel and a sincerely wish him a case of chancres on his member. While I'm unhappy with the NHL players stance for not budging on salary cap issues, Bettman has been and continues to be a world-class A-hole and its easy to see how they can disagree with him on primciple. How Bettman got into this position of power is beyond me...
  24. If we had won one of the earlier games, a 4-4 record would still leave open the opportunity for talking about a playoff slot. But a 3-5 record, especially in this division simply means we have effectively a zero chance of making the playoffs. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. A number of the Bills problems have been exposed this season - this just gives the team more opportunity to work them out. And let's face it - we simply are not the same caliber team as the Pats, Steelers, etc, which perform consistently week in week out. If we can somehow win or even compete effectively this Sunday nite, this will bode well for the future and next season...and hope springs eternal
  25. now if I could only get the US Govt to fully recognize Druidism as a proper religion.... PS - Adam called - he wants his rib back...
