  1. I just happened to tune into 97 Rock for maybe the first time all season, and just caught that.

It was the roundtable, and AVP was talking about the Cincy game, I believe, and they went to Jeff next.

He said he wanted to take this opportunity to talk about concussions and depresssion, as Wayne Chrebet of today's opponent has just retired from that. He said he knows profoundly what it is like, having gone thru it and still dealing with it.

He got more emotional as he was talking, and mentioned alcoholism, losing his wife, losing his family, etc. He then brought up Dungy's son, and said he can relate. Choked on his words a little bit and said that he's attempted suicide twice.

At this time, he was then crying and he said he wanted to thank everybody for letting him do this job, and how much he loved them. He said that with all this happening, that this opportunity has brought him back to who he really is.

Then, as he was really emotional and crying he said "I know there are some out there who don't want me to continue in this job, but I really want to thank you guys."

It sounded like AVP was then giving him a hug and said "We love you, too, man."

Murph then said - We were looking for some New Year's perspective and Jeff certainly has given us that.

It was very powerful and anybody who heard it had to feel for Jeff and hope that things will continue to improve for him. I hope they do let him continue in his position - I'm not sure how he is, because I'm either at the game, or watch the road games on TV.

All the best, Jeff, and keep going one day at a time!

  2. If San Fran would have won against Jax, the Bills still could have gotten the 1st overall.  If either one of Houston or San Fran wins next week, the Bills could still get the #2 overall.  Green Bay will probably pull out at least one more win.  However, New Orleans looks like a long shot for another win.

How could this be? There are a few teams with only two wins and two games to go?

  3. I'd say you're in the minority tonight.

Really - you people like listening all day long to how GR's Ron Mexico shirts got banned and how their station got called out on another radio show?

I guess I am in the minority - I'd rather hear about the team - GR thinks they are the story.

And, other than the way they've covered the Bills this year, I like Brad and the other guys on GR.

  4. Brad - you know what - Donahoe is right - you guys are being jerks today.........And, pretty much all season. This whole season has been about how the Bills treat GR. I could care less and had to turn you off tonight.

  5. Sorry, meant Bob, Jim has passed on...Valvano and Wright seemed obsessed with stupid "game-shows" which are just as bad as endless highlight replays...they are never funny, and make for very bad radio, IMO!  Valvano always seems affable enough, but is just dull as hell...do they still have the "Sports Doctor" John Schelesnik (sp?)  He used to do the ESPN overnight on the weekends, always thought he was good.  When I listen to sports talk radio, I just want them to stick to sports, I hate when they start doing crap like "your favorite sports movie" and crap like that.  I come to TSW for that kind of thing.... <_<

And, I like when they talk about other topics - different strokes!.............Although I always hate the favorite sports movie topic..............Never heard of the Sports Doctor - now it's the new guy - Jason Smith or something during the week and Bobby V on weekends for overnight.

  6. Oh my god!  You just conjured up some awful imagry for me...I thought Todd Wright was, perhaps, the worst sports talk radio host I have ever heard. Seriously.  His schtick was so friggin' tiresome, and he did it year after year, night after night.  I will say, he is the reason that I stopped listening to sports talk radio for a long time.  His hard on for Britney Spears, and his endless  interviews with the cast of "Silver Spoons", and interviewing schlubs from various sports teams, on a regular basis, because they were named Todd was unbearable.  The guy so wanted to be the radio version of FHM magazine, but he was just not funny at all....I always liked overnight talk radio....I miss Bob Kemp (from the old Sporting News Radio), but Jorge Sedano, on FOX is pretty good.  He is a shameless Miami fan, but his show is pretty entertaining.

All that said, I didn't realize Todd Wright had been put out of our misery.  I wish the man no ill will (I won a pair of Cowboys/Raiders tickets from him once- his season tickets!), but he was bad radio...second worst was Jim Valvano....is he still there?

They have Bob (not Jim) Valvano on weekend overnights now - Fri. and Sat. nights. He seems like a really nice guy, but he drives me nuts the way he starts talking about something and then backtracks to explain he didn't mean something literally. We knew that, Bob, we are not stupid..............It used to be that I coulnd't stand him, but then once I heard this new guy on weekday nights, I like Bobby V's show much better on weekend overnights.

Tcali - it sounds like you've heard much more of Todd Wright than I have. My hours shifted this year, and that's when I started listening to him. I figured I was pretty safe in liking him since he was there ten years, but as soon as I settled in with him, he got fired. I liked the things with the "assemblage" - The Tustle, and so forth. It was different that the Game Night, but now Overnight is just a continuation of Game Night - with endless highlight replays........What can be more boring that radio replays???

  7. I give this guy credit for doing his job.  He could have been watching the game instead of the fans, but he didn't turn, even when the crowd was yelling and screaming.  He knew the Bills were driving in his direction, yet he kept watching the stands.

Really?!? Now I thought he was stupid for the exact same thing. Photographers scrambling, crowd yelling - you might want to take a peak behind you!! I don't think anarchy will ensue in those couple of seconds.

  8. I agree with TJW. I really like the Herd. I was really disappointed when Tony K. left, but I've been more than happy with his replacement.

I doubt many are up at this hour, but I really hate that after ten years, they got rid of Todd Wright on All Night. He had such an entertaining program. This new guy is soooooo boring.
