  1. With Emmitt's retiring, they pulled out an article from Dr. Z in '02 when Emmitt broke the record. It's the top 12 all-time and O.J. is fifth. The three most amazing runners I saw were Barry (can't even describe), Earl Campbell (could not bring him down) and O.J. (some of Barry's moves with bigger size and incredible speed). That said - I might want Emmitt if I needed to win a big game and after watching Brian's Song a few weeks ago, and seeing Sayers highlights, it's just too bad his career was cut short.

    Here's the article: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writ...list/index.html

  2. Talonz - before the 2003 draft, Rome interviewed Willis. I didn't hear it, but happened to tune in right after. The clones were really piling on because it was probably the worst interview ever on the show, in their estimation. It has now become the gold standard of bad interviews on the show. Apparently, it was all one word answers.

  3. The thing is he's not just smiling. You would think immediately after you would have sort of pained smile. But, he's laughing his a** off like he's been out partying for a few hours and is on top of the world.

As for the coaching, it could not have been any more ridiculous at the end. Why would you possibly move back a few yards for a non chip-shot field goal??

  4. I think he is unlike any receiver we've had in that he was a superstar in college, looked like he'd be a great slot receiver his rookie year. A real possession guy who isn't going to drop anything. (I don't think he dropped any his rookie year).

Then, he turns into a guy who can't catch an important pass to save his life. How many third downs did he drop that would have been first downs. An anti-possession receiever is what he turned into.

He reminds me of James Lofton in his last year with us. Dropping everything. Reed is such a major disappointment and an enigma.

  5. I love Brett and watching him play. I just wish he would stop playing so wretched in the playoffs every year!! INT after INT. I also felt what might have been worst was that shuffle pass way beyond the line of scrimmage in the first half. What was he thinking? Any other quarterback would have ben vilified for that? But, the announcers were like "Brett - having his fun! He had no chance at the TD anyway." Well guess what - he definitely had a chance for the first down and I think would have made it until he turned into Drew throwing the ball out of bounds on 4th down!

  6. Maybe he was saying something about kicking on 3rd down b/c if it's a bad snap, the holder can fall on it and they can try again.

No - I was watching and this guy really things Marty S. blew it by not kicking on 3rd down because they would have had another chance when he missed!

They tape the TSR I'm quite sure. I was wondering why they didn't stop the tape and start all over again, instead of letting this embaressing thing air.

  7. I believe there's some revisionism in Peyton's recollection here.  This was the final game of the 1999 season and it is incorrect to say that there was no ramification to Indy whether they won or loss.  While they were assured a first round bye, a win in Buffalo would've clinched home field advantage for Indy throughout the playoffs.  (By losing, they failed to clinch such advantage.)

Furthermore, rather than the Indy starters resting that game, Manning was 18 for 29 and played most of the game.  Yes, Manning was replaced by Steve Walsh midway through the 4th Quarter, but this was mainly because the Bills were kicking their a$$es to the tune of 31-6.

For a walk down memory lane, click below to read the recap of this game from the ESPN archives:

Bills end Colts' 11-game win streak

    Go Bills!!!!!!

(and go Colts and/or Rams on Sunday!)

Shhhhh - let Peyton believe that!!

  8. .....since that great KC-Miami game (except for the outcome) in '71, is it? The News article seemed to imply it. That there was so much reaction to that game being scheduled, that the NFL said never again, but now times have changed, and here are the Chiefs again on Christmas, etc.

I was 9 years old then and loved the Chiefs and loved having football on and didn't understand the fuss. Now, I'm 42 and still love having football on, and maybe I understand the fuss better, but I want it on!

I believe the Lions had a game on Christmas the year that Barry retired, because the NFL had been hoping he'd be lined up for Payton's record by that game. Was that the first time they scheduled games since '71? Did they ever give a reason why they've changed their minds?
