A few that I don't think have been mentioned yet.
The Church - Under the Milky Way Tonight
Pink Floyd - Not Now John
Dire Straits - Telegraph Road
Rush - Red Barchetta
R.E.M. - South Central Rain
R.E.M. - It's the End of the World as We Know It (& I Feel Fine)
The Kinks - Destroyer
The Kings - This Beat Goes On / Switchin' To Glide
Duke Jupiter - I'll Drink To You
Gowan - A Criminal Mind
EDIT: X'd out the 'standards' and added some replacements.
Bruce Cockburn - If I Had a Rocket Launcher
Fine Young Cannibals - Johnny Come Home
Donald Fagan - New Frontier
Your three in row from DS/Kinks/Kings are all great choices.
My favorite 80s Floyd song is "On the turning away"
Somebody once asked me what were the three best songs during our college years. 1980-1984. I said:
Authority Song - Mellencamp
You Better, You Bet - The Who
Synchronicity II - The Police

The Smithereens

My favorite Smithereens song is Blues Before and After, but that's from '90 or '91.
For those of you into 80's music, there's a good show (Resurrection Sunday) streaming from Charlotte's 106.5 The End Sunday morning 8 - 12. A few hours of '80's music a week is just enough for me.
Love Patio Lanterns. Hadn't thought of it in many years until last year, and now it's heavy rotation on my playlist.
I actually like Modern Love much more than China Girl from that album. One of my favorite Bowie songs.

'Fraid I can't claim originality on that one.
Just googled it. Wow - that is so good. I have to get that movie just for that scene.

In '87, Huey released Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity (and the importance of trends), it's also a personal statement about the band itself.
Hey, Paul!
I hope this is sarcasm, because if it is, it's very good.

There are obviously millions of people who disagree with me, but I think radio is a terrible format for politics. The only thing worse than listening to someone I disagree with is listening to someone I *do* agree with. I generally come away embarrassed to be affiliated with that host. It works well for interviews, but past that...ugh.
I totally agree with you. It's so funny that you say that, because I can't stand the ones that I am on the same side of the aisle with even more than the other side, too!

I saw a little bit of that NBA celebrity all star game the other night, and I have to say that Beiber actually has game. He could be the starting point guard on a lot of high school teams, it seemed to me.

Politics, with the occasional celebrity interview.

I wonder how Jeff Burris is doing? It was shocking when he came out on the pregame roundtable and talked all about how he's suffering from depression, etc. from concussions. He got started when they were saying that somebody was retiring due to this, and he really got emotional about the whole thing.
It was the last game of the year, and then the Bills let him go. I hope he's doing OK, because he seems like a real nice guy.
-
I agree with the previous two points. I don't begrudge one cent that NFL players make.
-
He sent out texts telling family members to donate his brain to the study of NFL players brains. This sport is just brutal. Just on the '85 Bears, you have at least two dead already, a few who are totally crippled up, and McMahon suppoedly starting with dementia:
-
Oh yeah, the NFL is kicking MLB's azz. Brilliant!
What's next, you'll claim that NASCAR is a terrible business model and that land lines are better than smart phones?
Comedy is all about timing. Maher proves his lack of comedic skills by this very ill-timed bit, as you point out.

I saw a little bit of the NBA Celebrity All star game last night. I was shocked at how good Beiber is....He has some pretty serious game. He's got a great handle, good moves, good passing. I didn't watch long enough to see him shoot, but I know he made at least one three pointer.

Beavis & Butthead are returning:

Somebody I know had to wrestle a guy with no legs. So, can you imagine how strong this guys arms and torso were since he was in the same weight class as this guy I know with legs.........The guy I know lost!

Here is an excellent article about this and the misteps and direction of Nascar since. This was on the front page of the Washington Post today:

If you went there looking for sports talk you will be disappointed even if you do catch it when Riiter is on. Seems just as stupid as GR's afternoon show to me.
I am a big fan of Brad's and I like his mix of topics. And, I also like GR's stuff like Ten Opinions.
Seems that most of the people on this board are looking for more sports talk. I'm not, and I think the numbers indicate people in general are not.
Sometimes Brad's big voice guy says something like "If you're not thinking about the Bills, Brad's not talking about them." And, it works almost 100% of the time for me. There are times, after a big game, draft talk, all types of things where I do want to talk about the Bills.
However, when a team plays 16 games a year, I sure don't need 200+ days of Bills talk. So, while I am a big fan of Weck and Brad, if you are looking for 24/7 sports talk, you are going to be disappointed.

Brad's show is 4PM-7PM.
-
Why did this get all the national news? I heard a Lackawanna kid went undefeated the last two years except when he refused to wrestle a girl.
-
I just did a search for something else, and saw this thread.....Since there's so much Maher talk on the GR thread, I thought I'd watch it.
As usual, it wasn't funny at all.
But, not only that - wouldn't this point have been a good one to make say 10 years ago when the Yanks had won 4 of 5?
How does he account for the fact that since then there has not been a back to back champ and the only team to have won more than once since then are the Sox, who won it twice....In football since then, the Patriots have won 3 times, the Steelers twice.
Of the 12 teams that have played in the last 6 World Series, 11 have only played in it once. The Philies are the only team to play in in twice in the last 6 years.
Good timely non funny message, Bill.

I'm the same age as Howard, but he acts like he's 30 years older than. Doesn't know technology, not watching games, being a tightwad, etc.........Now what is up with his voice? I couldn't figure out who I was listening to a week or two ago, and then figured out that Howard's voice must now have turned into an old man's voice, since the rest of him did years ago.

I agree that in his current situation, Bulldog has become a bit stale and perhaps a bit too much of a lapdog for Schopp's pompous thoughts. But I will chalk it up to Bulldog being a team player, being a professional, and doing what he is being directed to do. Like you and I, he surely has bills to pay and a keen interest in keeping his job. Unlike Schopp, I really think he enjoys his job for the most part.
If I hear Bulldog on alone, I can stay with the broadcast far longer than when they are together (or worse yet, Schopp is ranting solo).
Does anyone know if their "vacation time" is mostly legit, or does WGR squeeze costs and lay them off here and there?
Bulldog is off today, again. I know I'm in the minority, but I actually turn it off when it's either one solo. Schopp is definitely less edgier when he's a alone......They do get so much time off, it's ridiculous. I emailed the Program Director last time that they should change the name of the show to Schopp OR The Bulldog.

Sherman would have even said this was going too far.

God, I hope not. Maniscalco was on AM 910 for several years here in Richmond and I couldn't stand him. Although he's from Buffalo, he's a Minnesota Viking and NY Ranger fan. How do you grow up in WNY and not like at least one of their pro teams? He never said anything worthwhile about the Bills or Sabres and took many shots at them. He said several times on-air that (paraphrasing) "Buffalo was not a hockey town but liked to think it was." WTF?? Now he's in Raleigh, NC covering the Hurricanes' pre- & postgame shows. Raleigh...great hockey town, right, Maniscalco? They can have him. I hope he never goes within 500 miles of WNY and I hope he never resurfaces in Richmond, either.
That explains why he was such an ahole when he was GR. It was at a time when every single one of them, esp. the weekend guys were just all negative all the time.

Getting high is your only chance of LYAO with Maher.

We have very similar tastes, that's for sure.....Last year three of us were discussing Synchronicity II in a bar. Two of us agreed it was great and we were singing to remind the third which song he was. He says Oh, yeah - that is great. Then, he says Now wait - was there a Synchronicity I, and the two of say totally in unison - Yeah, but it sucked.
Cherry Bomb, Eminence Front and my favorite Triumph song, Magic Power, all are really great songs!
