  1. great question...I'd say a biscuit(too bad he never reached those heights again-coulda been an all time great) with Cribbs,Joe D and Dubenion tied for second.

No doubt Biscuit looked like he was going to be all timer that year. I don't think I ever saw as dominant of a defensive game as the season ender against the Eagles.

  2. I agree with everybody who voted for Cribbs. He was a real force his first year. Thurman took till his 2nd year to get to that level, and OJ took a few years.

Conlan would have a good argument, too........And, Biscuit would be the choice if he played the whole season (and that was already a strike season as it is).

  3. Pittsburgh is at least twice as far from Olean as Buffalo is.......And, having lived in Olean for four years, I can tell you it's a Buffalo place, not a Pittsburgh place. All the TV is from Buffalo, mostly Bills/Sabres fans, etc.

As for the Shony album, I'm not sure what this means:

    sifted alot of -um 'greens',

But, it definitely folded out and had pictures of the brawl.

  4. The difficulty speaking really didn't seem like much of a big deal to me. He's very new to this forum. He'll figure it out soon enough.

The rest of your post really bugs me though. I just did a quick search and I saw that he moved to Olean in '75. Do you really expect someone living in a completely different part of the country to be a fan of a team from an area he has never actually been to? Sure, it probably helps that the team was where they were when he happened to move to the area, but in the end, that's just coincidence. This whole idea that someone can't be as big of a fan as someone else if they weren't there as long is a bunch of BS. The vast majority of the fanbase wasn't there from the start, so I guess that makes most of us bad or lesser fans.

And, it's been 36 years since he became a Sabres fan! I think he's made up for his sin of not being a Sabre fan in their first five years of existence by the things mentioned by San Jose.

Besides, the Shony album was a single album, not a double album!

  5. to two prostitutes] Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where, uh, Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to "Land of Confusion". In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. "In Too Deep" is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as, uh, anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your !@#$. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like "In the Air Tonight" and, uh, "Against All Odds". Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is "Sussudio", a great, great song, a personal favorite.

Skewering Hip to be Square and Sussidio - I really have to watch this!

  6. If you look at the public records of New York State here:

it seems likely that Ralph Wilson "owns" the Bills because he is the (a) Chairman of the Board or CEO and (b) either the sole OR majority owner of the shares of Buffalo Bills, Inc. - - - a New York State corporation. I say "likely" because although you would expect any successful business man to shield his other personal assets from liability by using a corprate form of team ownership, I have no information one way or the other about whether this particular corporation is being used by Ralph Wilson to own the Bills football team. Given the corporate name, it would seem logical, but that's no guarantee. Ralph could be using this corporation for some Bills-related purpose other than actually owning the team.

I don't know for certain, but it also seems logical to me that if anybody out there on the information superhighway could confirm that "Buffalo Bills, Inc." is the name on the checks the team uses to pay expenses controlled by the league (e.g. player salaries?), that would be a pretty strong indication that this really is the corporation that Ralph Wilson uses to "own" the Bills. Any bank tellers out there that could confirm one way or the other what name is on such checks?

I follow this board when I have time, but I only see a small fraction of the posts. I can't recall ever seeing any discussion of the fact that Ralph Wilson could already have sold a minority interest in the Bills without making that fact public. Closely held private corporations aren't required to make the same type of public disclosures that widely held public ones must make. I don't have any expertise about New York state law as it applies to privately held corporations, but I am not aware of anything that would prevent Ralph Wilson from (1) selling a minority stake in Buffalo Bills , Inc. (2) telling potential minority stake buyers that he would only sell to them if they agreed to keep their mouths shut while he was alive, (3) avoiding public disclosure of such a sale, and (4) continuing to truthfully represent to the public that he is the owner of the Bills (because he still owns a majority of the company's shares). I am NOT saying this has happened - - I'm just saying that it could have happened without the public being aware of it.

I keep reading second hand accounts about how Ralph has said the team will be sold upon his death. Assuming that's true, it would not be inconsistent with a pre-existing sale of a minority interest to a silent investor. Upon Ralph's death, his estate could sell the shares of the corporation Ralph still owned, which could be considered to be selling the team because it would still be a majority stake.

Just thought I'd give everybody some new facts to chew on.

And by the way, for those who think that the league prevents corporate ownership of teams, I think you're misinformed. The league now prevents ownership of teams by non-profit corporations (other than Green Bay, which got grandfathered in because they were already owned that way before the league passed the rule), but closely held private for-profit corporations are a different animal.

Upon previewing this post I'm not sure the link I pasted in works because it's so long, so I cut and pasted the full text of the New York State corporate record below:

Thanks very much for this info....I wonder what motives there might be for Ralph to do it this way. If it were me, I would let it be known, and instead of being viewed upon more negatively than positively lately, he could be alive while he is adored by this whole region.

I go to SF Giants, Oakland A's, Golden State Warriors, Niners, and Raiders games. And I'm not a fan of any of those teams. I like watching pro sports and that's why I go. He might be an ardent Sabres fan, or the Sabres might be "one of his favorite teams." It's possible even that he's a big NHL fan more than a devotee of any one team.

To that point, didn't Pegula live in Orchard Park for many years? Could be he's just a big hockey fan.

I'm not saying he isn't a Sabres fan…but it's possible that there's a hockey team closer to his heart than the Sabres (Penguins?).

Pegula would have nothing to gain by admitting it of course. Anyways, it's all speculation.

    Just thinking out loud.

Do you break down in tears at he sight of Mitch Richmond?

  7. Fair enough, SJBF. I'll always be guarded about outsiders buying our Sports teams -think Snyder. That Pegula brought the hierarchy from Pittsburgh with him is kinda re-assuring that -for the near future- they're committed to building ANOTHER Cup winner.

But the presser was embarrassing to me -both for his terrible orating and his supposed gushing love for a franchise he otherwise viewed as an enemy for all those years. Heck, at 90+ years, Ralph's public speaking skills make him seem like Shakespeare by comparison..

I'm not sure if he was a Penguins fan. He was a Sabres sth from '80-'98. Doubt you would have seasons if that wasn't your team.

  8. You contradict yourself sir! DW blows! You state DW is well rounded. How when he can't cover, takes bad angles, whiffs on tackles, and gets trucked by running backs(patriots 2 years ago). But really, you stated well rounded, but HE CAN'T COVER TE FOR SH*T! How is that well rounded?

That sounds pretty well rounded to me. You even said he blows at every single thing he does.

  9. It works for me. Today he talked the whole time about Pegula. That's what I wanted to hear. Do I want to hear a breakdown of last night's Sabres game in November. No. I think he's got his pulse on what people are interested in that day. If you want to hear 24 hour sports talk, which would bore me to death, get something cheap like pocket tunes on your phone and listen to espn radio or any of the other options.

  10. See, you piqued my curiosity and now you made me read that terrible article.

What a myopic piece of crap.

Written by a piece of crap. He used to be so good and he's not even that old and he's been living on his laurels for many years now......For every one of his human interest stories that pique my interest (Yankees having the Sunshine Camp kids in the stadium for midnight baseball), there are 50 stories that just bore me to tears.

SDS - thanks for putting it in perspective.

  11. I don't see where Sanders is visiting tomorrow. Where is that?

BTW, my source says that Whitner is gone. I'm not 100% sure if he meant unless he lowers his demands, but I do know the Bills are letting him walk if he keeps trying to get the numbers he's throwing out there.

  12. when have we ever heard this stuff as Buffalo sports fans?

"Starting today, the Buffalo Sabres' reason for existence will be to win the Stanley Cup." -- New Sabres' owner Terry Pegula

"There is no salary cap in the National Hockey League on scouting budgets and player-development budgets," said Pegula.

We will aspire to be the best in the League at finding, developing and keeping our players in their new Buffalo Sabre family."

"Darcy (Regier, GM) will run a hockey department that I have previously said will have no financial mandates," said Pegula. "We're cutting the chains off and he's free to run with whatever he wants to do with scouting, player development, working with Lindy (Ruff, coach) and the coaches. We're going to pour some resources into that area of the team."

"If I want to make some money, I'll go drill a gas well," said Pegula, who became a billionaire in the natural gas market. "We're not in this to save money."

I was just going to post that. Man, how great is that!

  13. Doc, you mentioned before about having Sirius right? If you have the money, spring for the Sirius Stiletto or Stiletto 2. It has "radio replays," which means that it will record to open memory on the station you leave it set at. The Stiletto 2 is probably better for you because it has a SD slot. I have two 100's, earlier model, and will leave the 80's station on for a weekend and have days full of songs that I just jump through to find that one song that takes back some obscure memory from when I was so young.

The Stiletto 2 has the headphone jack and you can get a little carrying case, or rubber protection sleeve like an ipod. There are car docks and home docks, as well. It is not that expensive on eBay.

Heart - These Dreams, for some reason, makes me remember my childhood more then anything. I have been able to remember a lot of my life through songs, many as far back as 1983. I was born in 1981.

Whoa - you can remember when you were two? I constantly amaze people with my photographic memory and the fact that I can remember going to my first Bills game when I was 6, and basically remember everything about the Bills and everything else since I was 7. My friends are my same age, and I feel like I'm ten years older. It doesn't make sense that they don't remember these things.

But, I can't come close to remembering when I was two!

  14. he said obscure and Magic Power was a pretty big hit...

I agree, but then everybody was giving him songs from the beginning that I wouldn't consider obscure. I'll Melt with You is on every day still........So, I just rolled with it, because he seemed to like those, and didn't say they weren't obscure enough.
